The Numbers Game – Budget Midfielders

Starting the season priced at just 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Raheem Sterling quickly cemented his place in many a five man midfield thanks to a consistency of game time under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Handed a first-team chance in Gameweek 2, the winger rose steadily in price to 5.7 as the bandwagon showed little sign of slowing down but a run of 16 consecutive starts was brought to an end in Gameweek 18, with Rodgers citing signs of fatigue in the youngster’s play:

With the arrival of Daniel Sturridge added to Fabio Borini’s return from injury, the attacking options are increasing for the Merseysiders – having started just three of the last six, Sterling’s owners are starting to get twitchy. He’s now dropped in price to 5.5 but, with a 17% ownership, remains the most popular sub 6.0 midfield option in the FPL game at present. As winter wildcards continue to be flourished, we take a look at the upcoming six Gameweeks and, in accordance with our Rate My Team projections, analyse the likely protagonists for those Fantasy managers eyeing up a potential transfer out…

Argyle fan here. You have nothing to worry about, you haven't had to see you clubs sell all their players (Puncheon, Gosling, Ebanks-Blake, Mackie, Wright-Phillips, Noone) and then slip down league after league.

If Mata went down injured tomorrow, and was ruled out for a lengthy period of time who would you replace him with?

for me it would be Lampard. Gerrard or Bale.

Lads i'm goin mad and need help. Never do a RMT as i like to go with the gut feeling but this week i'm stumped.

    Fed Jussi
    Sagna Wilkinson Demel Clyne Luiz
    Guthrie Mata Bale Michu Walcott
    Ba RVP Podolski

My gut is telling me to get Aguero and Suarez but it's also telling me i have to have Fellaini.
I have always played 3-4-3 and will be sticking to this formation.
    Any advice please?

I grew up supporting Middlesbrough, I don't think I'd know how to deal with supporting a successful club. I just lived in Toronto for a little while, so I have a soft spot for their underachieving clubs. The Raptors are terrible this year too!

*sighs* Must I repeat this again?

I don't get why anyone would get DDG over Migs

    Pros of DDG
    Plays for United
    Costs 5.5

    Cons
    Could get dropped
    Not many CS
    Very rarely gets save points
Rafa and Evans are similarly priced and offer attacking points

    Pros of Migs
2nd highest points in FPL for keepers
8 CS (only Bego has more)
92 saves (no one has more)
    Nailed on
Cheap (especially if you got him at 5.0)
Sunderland defence don't score a lot so not much chance of attacking returns
    Cons
Can occasionally concede 3-4 in a game

IMO Sunderland could do an Everton this year. MON has identified the weakness in his team and tried to rectify them. They are finding some form and in AJ, Sess, Fletcher and Larsson have a decent attack

Ba – could explode against reading
Gibbs – 3 home games in four including villa and stoke
Azp – pretty nailed on and my rivals have him

    Bego bunn
    Baines gibbs azp demel mariappa

Please help with my Cup quandry.

My cup opponent has two MC defenders and I have no MC. He has Michu and Pod, I don't have Michu. He also has a penchant for hits.

I was planning Santi - Fellaini and Podolski - Aguero for a 4pt hit

The Cup is my top priority at the moment. So should I...

    A) Go Michu instead of Fellaini
    B) Go Michu and MC defender instead of Aguero (keep Pod but extra transfer needed later)
    C) Go Fellaini & MC defender (keep Pod)
    D) Switch Berba to Aguero not Pod (Xtra transfer now - 8pt hit)
    E) Stick to my plans

Also which MC defender, he has Zab and Nasty but I fancy Clichy?

    Any comments much appreciated 🙂

    Mata/Michu/Walcott/Fellaini/Puncheon
    Rvp/Suarez/Aguero

Have read a lot of the background to this, a lot of it makes sense tbh, he and his family want to live in London, he is 31 and he is 3rd and at times 4th choice striker at WBA. At his age it is unlikely such an opportunity will arise, plus WBA will probably offload him in the summer. Prob improved wages, playing in London, more playing opportunities. Makes perfect sense.

Yeah. I suppose going from being one of the main guys at the club to not as important is tough for him. Plus, he's 31 so probably wants to have his final season or two being the hero again.

I'll do it. I don't have great credentials but I reckon if they were willing to let McLeish butcher them then I should get a go.

Any long term suggestions to cut down an 84 point lead? It wa 60, but I didn't have arsenal coverage. Please help.

Get maximum coverage for the favoured team(s) in future DGW's.

I'm not wonderful at this game but my advice would be to look on here more.

I'd go for some potential explosive differentials. Possibly Gerrad. Also, look at a different defence. My current thinking is Assou Ekotto and cheap def fighting for relaxation, but with potential to provide assists or CS as we often see these teams start to pick up unlikely results... Wigan for eg. Risky, but could pay off. It did for me last season.
