I asked this in the daytime, but I wasn't really expecting a response.

Can anyone else make subs on the UCL fantasy game? I know it's full of bugs and terribly designed, but I'm doing fairly well in it and don't want my Bayern players stuck on my bench.

I'm on the side of having sympathy for Wenger and I agree. I think he showed his authority rather than completely losing it. I like Wenger a lot and don't really get why Arsenal fans want him out so bad. Silverware is great and all but they're just going through a period where they are being overshadowed by these big money clubs. Arsenal will still remain a top club and has a unique style under Wenger which I enjoy. I think it will be a sad day if they sack him or he is forced to resign personally.

Hmmm. So Suarez has 9 goals and 3 assists away, Aguero has 3 goals and 2 assists away. Suarez has played 50% more minutes of course but even so his record is very good. The stats and the strength of fixtures for both sides aren't making this any easier.
I wish Tevez would take another golf tour and solve the problem - Suarez & a nailed-on Dzeko would be sweet.

Also, I was thinking that another possible victim of resting against Norwich could well be Mr Evans. Does anyone share this view? I'm thinking it could be Smalling and whoever won't play the second leg against Real out of Rio and Vidic.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say earlier...not sure if it was you who was agreeing with me. Everyone's going BARGAIN! EVANS! BARGAIN! NAILED ON!

But so are Rooney and RVP but they'll still be rested for games I'd imagine if they go far in the champions league. And if you look at this way...

if as people say he IS first choice...then in a way that makes him more precious, surely? Of course it would also be true to say he is younger, fitter, more energetic than Vidic/Rio for sure at the moment. But it would concern me...I'd like to see how it pans out before buying him.

I missed this argument earlier, regrettably! I was considering getting him in for a hit this week, but -4 to play away at QPR and then be dropped at home to Norwich isn't good business.

He is first choice, which means he will play against Madrid. Therefore, he is definitely a rotation risk at home to Norwich. Although it's impossible to know for sure. I'm thinking I might even stick with GJ away at Wigan and see what else I can fix in my team that week.

I would be extremely against taking a hit for a defender even if you are down to 10 men this week. It seems as if people change their mind and try to say it's only a 2 point hit in reality because their others have blanks. I'm not sure if I really buy that. Why is a 2 point hit to your score even worth it? The most you should realistically expect from a defender is 6 points imo unless it's Baines. So you're taking a 4 point hit to hope to get an extra 2 points if they keep the CS...hmmm not sure it's worth it.

But as you said, if Evans is even the slightest rotation risk for Norwich (and logic says he could well be) he's almost certainly not worth a hit this week imo.

A thing I can envisage is Fergie playing Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra/Buttner for the Norwich game. Resting both Rio and Evans perhaps. Smalling is a perfectly decent CB to fill in.

I think between us both, we've managed to convince myself that this is a bad move. I do fancy United to keep a CS, but then it's only 2 points. GJ @ Wigan could work out well too, that boy owes me big time for not getting at least an assist last week.

Besides, I'm not down to 10 for this week, I have the mighty Ryan Bertrand to score in a 1-0 win @ The Etihad this weekend.

Trig, I saw your discussion with Unreal, but I personally don't buy it. I think Evans will play majority, if not all, of United's remaining EPL fixtures.

Yes, I can do both TW, for a hit. I've been hit-shy all season so I am not quite sure yet.

I'm just uncertain. He might, but it's not worth me taking a hit to get him when I'm not sold on the idea.

Your planned transfers were going to be my transfers before I caved and got Bale in instead.

Aguero is coming in when Fellaini goes out in GW29.

can you get a strong 11 out without a hit? and do you have sturridge as well?

I understand why some people are reluctant to take hits but i have found them quite beneficial this year. got bale in for his hatty for a hit, same with walcott, mata in for the dgw for a hit and this last week i did afro + demel > sissoko + enrique for a hit which worked out quite nicely :D.

Does fielding Demel qualify as having a strong 11? 😀 The way I see it, I had a good score last week and if we are thinking of these two weeks as one, I can afford to take a hit, right? 😀

I pretty much agree with this. Does the Aguero option just mean you're holding onto to Marveaux? Because if that's the case, I think I pick that one, you can always upgrade him later if need be.

What can you do with Benteke? Are you playing 3-4-3? If I were playing 3-4-3, I'd be aiming at RvP - Aguero - Sturridge / Benteke partnership. I just hate the idea of having a non-playing 5th midfielder because there are game cancelations coming up and the bench will come in handy.

            mata bale walcott sissoko marv
            rvp suarez sturridge
1ft and .4 in the bank. looking to ship suarez

yeah i hate the idea of a nonplaying midfielder too. and like i said marv will be my 11th player this week so if he doesn't play then that's a zero on the field for me with no one subs

I personally believe Evans will play all EPL games. He doesn't have fatigue as he has been out most of the season. On the contrary, he needs to build match fitness. I can see him play every game in the EPL and the UCL with Vidic and Rio rotating, Smalling getting the odd game at RB or CB in the cup. That's my view.

Funny situation. A few weeks ago, I declined the opportunity to watch Brom host Spurs (I have a special soft spot for them having been born in the midlands) so that I could afford to watch them host united on the final day of the season. The hope was that that game would be the title decider giving me a little extra incentive to cheer them on. Unfortunately, in the intervening weeks city's title challenge has disintegrated. Wondering whether to bother now.

That front 7 picks itself and Punch is more than good enough to cover for rest and rotation.

Yeah, you might get frustrated by a lack of clean sheets, but if your front 7 is scoring 60+ points every week, it's a minor concern. To be fair, that budget defence will pick up half decent points anyway.

Wow, that is simply awesome Crouch, I wonder would I be able to do this. I'd have to check...I assume you got Michu cheap? I got him for 7.5 so that might be the difference...that extra 1m. If I can do something like this over time I might consider it. I generally have grown tired of expensive defenders underperforming so I don't mind going cheaper at the back if I could bolster my attack in this way. As TM said above...that front line is mouthwatering! 😀

You dominated, though Acquafresca had a good set of picks earlier in the week that I lost track of.

        PEPIN SAYS:
        Turner, Benteke, Bale, Clark, Kebe
        8, 8, 15, 1, 2 = 34

Next highest was 18. Nice job.

I like that Liverpool Swansea idea -- hadn't though of that.

Usually on the DZ before a deadline -- night here in the U.S.

I'm wondering if there is interest on here at some point at taking things to the next level: picking guys for an extended period of time, maybe with possible trades? Could be insane to manage and track, but could also be a blast.

btw where in the U.S. are you from?

and what time is that usually? cuz i'm usually on before the deadline but keep missing it somehow...

hmm interesting idea. but i think part of the fun of it though is its only one week and it's pretty simple to do. once you get into trading and stuff you have to keep track of who you have and negotiate with the others, etc.

Just watching the Wenger press conference now...wow! He really lost the plot. 'Why are you looking at me? Are you giving away this information?' Wow.

I'm sorry but that's not right. Did you watch the conference? They didn't ask him any 'bad' questions. They were all fair - you lost in the cup, are you signing an extension, etc. Nothing wrong with that. He sounded like a paranoiac maniac at times. Lost his temper is right.

          seems you agree then.

except one of you puts a lot more meaning into someone losing their temper.

watch a redknapp pressie - he loses his temper half the time.

Lost his temper, yeah, that's what i said. Hardly 'lost the plot'. In fairness he's constantly asked about his contract, and this was was pre-match conference about the champs league, so why should he have to answer q's like those?

Because it's clear that being knocked out of the FA cup by a non-EPL side has an effect to the team's preparation for the next game. Anyway, the point I made was that he did a bit more than lose his temper. Lose plot, lose tempter - tomato, tomayto.

Fair enough i suppose, just think that subtle differences in language make a huge difference, especially the way the media spins it.

Aargh. Just posted a longish response but site froze.

No justification for a heavy 3-4-3 right now. Only Suarez and RVP are total packages at FWD imo, so if you are shipping Suarez two strong replacements should come back:
Fellaini and Lambert/Benteke/Fletcher for Suarez and Marveaux

Pepin's point about rotation is spot on.

good point. so lamps or afro or someone else? only problem is it gives me a bit of a rotation headache.... but i guess that I can live with

I agree about rotation as well

Playing 3-5-2 has served me well so far, but I am starting to regret it. Until a few weeks ago there were more midfielders I wanted than strikers, but now that's changed...It's difficult to switch without taking multiple hits, though.

Fellaini. He is playing deep too much for my liking. And yes, I realize he scored a brace a game ago. But with Suarez, Sturridge, Benteke, Lambert and maybe Aguero catching fire I want to have 3 up top again.

What are you thinking this week? Can you afford straight Suarez to Aguero swap?

Am trying to be at 3-5-3 -- plenty of possible dgws and rotation challenges for massive teams, so being stuck with a cheap 8th attacker is not ideal (Puncheon notwithstanding). That being said, since I went for this I have done horribly in sgw (45, 42) and big on dgw (98, 102, 92). Overall that is probably below average for these parts.
