The Watchlist – Simon Mignolet

Top scoring keeper in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings with 103 points, Simon Mignolet is afforded further opportunity to boost his tally over the next few matches. A run of games which sees Sunderland square up to West Brom, Fulham, QPR and Norwich all hold plenty appeal before the schedule turns nasty for Martin O’Neill’s side in Gameweek 31:

The Belgian heads to the Hawthorns on Saturday on the back of a run of games which has harvested 43 points in his previous nine matches; just under five points per game. While this has included four clean sheets – against Southampton, City, West Ham and Swansea – Mignolet’s save points have also been crucial to his Fantasy prospects. So far, he has made 105 saves, eight more than any other keeper, and has picked up three points against Spurs and Liverpool and four points against Arsenal over the previous nine, despite conceding in each of those fixtures. As a result, he sits six points ahead of Joe Hart in the standings, despite registering two clean sheets less (nine to 11) than the City stopper.

Mignolet’s propensity to pick up save points is crucial to his appeal over alternative Sunderland assets. With regular full-backs Craig Gardner and Danny Rose both classified as midfielders in FPL, the choice is pretty limited – John O’Shea has chipped in with a goal and pair of assists this season but remains almost 30 points behind his keeper. Carlos Cuellar, at 4.4, is a cut-price option but continues to be plagued with a hamstring injury – he was an unused sub against Arsenal last time out, with O’Neill clearly keen to ease him back to action. This leaves Titus Bramble as an alternative but with new boy Kader Mangane building up match fitness, too many question marks currently hang over the centre-half positions, boosting Mignolet’s appeal further.

Coming in at 5.4 in FPL and just 4.4 in the Sky Sports game, Mignolet’s heroics suggest he could be utilised as a one-stop keeper option from here on in, though he could also offer a superb rotation partner with Newcastle’s Tim Krul. Such a scenario would present us with a superb run of home games (SOT, FUL, STO, NOR, MUN, FUL, SUN) over the next seven Gameweeks for those with budget to spare.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

ok sorry i know rmt's are tedious but i'm one of the few idiots that pulled the trigger on the wildcard this week and here's what i have

    bego -bunn
    wilson - davies - clyne - jevans - harte
    mata - bale - walcott - michu - puncheon
    benteke - rvp - aguero

let me know what you think. i'll save two subs before gw 29. will probably take mata out.

If I was on a wildcard I'd rather DDG over Bego, as you have Stoke cover with Wilson.

hmm - thanks i'll go mignolet because of jevans at the back and the 29 blank (although perversely that might be an argument for ddg as dgw at some point)

    23 Feb 15:00 Gameweek 27 Aston Villa (H)

    09 Mar 15:00 Gameweek 29 Everton (H)

If Arsenal lose to Spurs &/or Everton, they could be 10 points behind 4th place with 9 games left.

Plus the humping they will get at Bayern will not be good for their confidence...

But Spurs next 3, with Bale in the form of his life:

    03 Mar 16:00 Gameweek 28 Arsenal (H)
    10 Mar 16:00 Gameweek 29 Liverpool (A)

    02 Mar 15:00 Gameweek 28 Reading (H)
    09 Mar 15:00 Gameweek 29 Arsenal (A)

I think Usmanov is playing his cards perfectly at Arsenal. Let the American who is only concerned about profit into the club, they won't sign big players and results will suffer. 5 years ago if Usmanov took over Arsenal I doubt he would have being a popular choice, now the fans will love him for it.

I've just been thinking about the using a FT to sell Enrique for another defender in order to field 11, and I'm not sure it's actually worth it, even if it means fielding 10.

If United and City also have a blank, that rules out the main medium-term targets (considering my other defensive coverage), meaning the realistic replacement will probably get between 1-2 points with a small chance of more.

Is that worth my FT? That precious extra transfer could come in handy if with all the other blanks, meaning I can field more attackers in GW29.

Decided Jose over Jevans because with CL and FA matches still to come there is a high possibility that Jevans will get rested as united will have nothing to play for i the PL pretty soon.

Problem with selling davies is you're unlikely to gain many points with his replacement. Gerrard or Suarez makes more sense as you can afford a big hitter to replace them.

It's difficult to concentrate on FFS when you are working at the same time 🙁

    Just a thought:

If Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League next season:
    A) Who are the players who are likely to leave or want to leave Arsenal?
    B) Which players do you think your favorite club should acquire?

Personally, I would like Chelsea to get Walcott, but unfortunately he has just signed a new contract and hence might be very expensive if anyone tries to buy him...

I also would like Vermaelen at Chelsea... he can be a good successor to Terry...

Possibly not. Both will play after their blank wk27 with no real worries on rest/rotation etc. Almost anyone i would transfer in for either of them will likely miss at least one game and probably more in the weeks to come. I can therefore spend my free transfer this week elsewhere. Simples.

Thoughts on my little dilemma for this week, Dawson vs S Taylor

Dawson plays for a better defense, but has worse fixtures and less goal threat

S Taylor- Rotates better with my defense, better fixtures, more goal threat, but worse team.

The decision is also influenced by the fact that I still have my WC and it will probably be put to use as soon as there is a bigger DGW.

Saw that, that is why I am looking at this so early. But the problem with him is when do I play him while I have 2 expensive defenders who I play every week and Wilson+Harte who will play now and again. I will need this defender this GW and GW 29 100%.

I am even considering maybe going for a Norwich defender instead or Cuellar

Rooney had better bloody play against QPR, don't mind if he starts on the bench and comes on at some point as long as he plays and preferably scores. That's the last time I make an early transfer.

Thank you Joe90. I got lucky.

Of course I'll have a look at your team.

I see you've already made two transfers, what were they?

              Oooh I like that.

Your core is fine and your big players are fine, I'd just start tweaking the weaker players over time from here. It's a bit of a problem that you have both Marveaux and Pogrebnyak in there too, or do we think Marveaux will play now Gouffran is out? HBA is returning too I think.

I'm not entirely clued up on the other midfield cheapies, can you afford Sissoko somehow? That does look tricky to be honest.

Anyway, you're fairly well set for now and won't make any further transfers this week anyway so perhaps you'll be best off just waiting a week and then considering it all again. It's a good team overall.

I'd expect him to either play the whole game or miss out entirely. Might well captain him, he was already a differential and now the yellow flag will put more people off. Walcott vice and hopefully I'll be happy either way.

My current def is harte cueller davies onouha GJ.

Plan: to do GJ + suarez >> def (who is going to start for me this week and next gw) + augero

Reason: i want to save my FT for next gw and since qpr and rdg play away, i want the def i buy this week to
    play gw27 and gw28.

options: evans (already have ddg tho), santon, wilson

    cant think of anyone else..

yes it is. 2 years ago I was 120 pts 10 weeks before. Of course that 4 goals and assist from Lampard helped but it is. Say it this way, u have 11 weeks till the end and 80 pts.

That means 7,2pts per week. Let your goal be 7 pts more than your opponent every week. If u go down one week or 2, nothing serious just add the gap to the 7 pts.

But surely is achievable,. Post us his and yours team. We could make it

Considering how much money you have spent. You should be winning the league every season. Instead you have just ruined football for everyone else.
