The ScoutCast – Episode One Hundred And Three – Armband

The double Gameweek dominates episode 103 of the ScoutCast, providing a timely antidote a pitiful weekend of points scoring that saw even the great and good struggle. While your hosts hardly fit into that category, Granville and I dust ourselves down to rinse through the double Gameweek options, popping in on the Professor to get the “Rate My Team” viewpoint, before Jonty crashes the party to serve up another community themed conclusion.

This time around, Jonty brings a tale of armband woe: a Fantasy manager who misses the captain target with frustrating regularity. Whilst that manager’s luck should offer cheer, Jonty is also armed with a plethora of captain statistics that come courtesy of a former “Full Jonty” victim. Those particular revelations have me staring into the eyes of a certain Dutchman and wondering where it all went wrong.

Be captain sensible and grab this latest episode via this link or stream it via the player below.

*Apologies for the downgrade in sound balance this week – we had some technical issues which basically meant I forgot to restart the recording half way through and so had to use a lower quality recording mix. A balls up: it won’t happen again (that’s probably a complete lie – it’s bound to happen again).

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Morning. For me it's Baines, Cazorla or Van P for the armband. Leaning towards Cazorla. What are you lads thinking?

I dont get the Baines thoughts as he has pretty much 0 chance to get a CS so you are banking on attacking results which could happen- but he wont explode. Caz or Van P are your guys

Relegation strugglers go for goals no matter what cause they need to win, not draw. Statistically proven to score more goals in the end of the season and Everton are not good defensively.

pretty much zero, though?! Don't be silly.

Everton (playing for fourth, very good defensive team) at home to QPR who have struggled to score despite being desperate to win all season, and may well have given up now.

That also adds to my point, as Everton in a 0-0 situation will push for a goal as well. I think it could be very open.

Great Scoutcast. As an RvP owner, I think that with so much money tied up in this investment, it's time that people should look elsewhere for better value - a cheaper price tag with almost similar but better form. If you fancy a MUN forward, Rooney is a great prospect for the run-in.

I'm also thinking Lambert has good fixtures for the rest of the season too and at this stage I really want someone nailed on every week.

I had the money to get Rooney but I'm thinking Lambert will outscore him from now until the end of the season and hoping he does in this GW too.

I think there is a fair chance Pienaar will be worth it. I'm in the same boat as you and I'm still debating it with myself. Pienaar sits on a PPG of 4 so his average output over the two games should see him beating Sissoko, and then we'd obviously hope for extra returns against QPR.

If you think Sissoko has a good chance of scoring none of this matters of course.

I can't vote again but the fact that you're going in to the decision with eyes open and not banking on 180 minutes from Walcott makes me want to back up your gut instinct. If it backfires you'd be annoyed but I think you'd be more disappointed if you didn't do it and Walcott scored 8+.

Yes that's true they do have DGW soon. They got rested but they have the FA cup semi this weekend before Fulham...
You could also plan to bring Silva later for DGW and also need room for the return of Bale. It is up to you really...

True. I painted myself a bit into the corner by getting Hazard last week for Bale, I was hoping I'd get more answers about who to hold on to of Haz/Mata but I have nooo idea. If it was more obvious who I should lose, I would probably ditch, but it feels 50/50 right now and I don't want to ditch the "wrong one".

I only have 7 for this DGW but then already 4 for the next one so should have at least 8 or 9 with a few points hits by GW36.

    de Gea
    Clyne, Baines, Demel, Sagna
    Silva, Cazorla, Fellaini

Not much feedback, but I like the look of it. I'd be a bit worried by Davies now Neil Taylor has played for the reserves etc, wouldn't be surprised to see his season ending early. He's young still and has played week in week out.

Spurs don't really have a great DGW for defensive returns. You'd probably expect a 1pter from Man City away. Ok home fixture vs Soton, though - but I would only go for attacking options.

I think you have to much in attack, I would downgrade RvP to Rooney so you can upgrade Demel/Kanu to a better defender or midfielder later (possibly Michu)

to be honest i've gone the other way - already had rooney and got in RVP instead. just have a feeling about RVP this week and you've gotta go with them sometimes! probably will ditch him next week to free up funds to upgrade team ready for next DGW

The anytime goalscorer odds for Olivier Giroud are extraordinarily low. Incredible 1.44 at Paddy Power, which is a fair bit lower even than Suarez. I'm a little bit surprised by this, but the bookies know what they're doing more often than not.

Van Persie, who I'll captain, ticks in at 1.90 for the Stoke game, but should be lower for the West Ham game I suppose.

My defence is looking pretty shoddy at the min, with Wilson on a yellow and Harte out of favour. With that in mind, which of these sounds better:

    Foster to DDG
Sturridge to Giroud & risk the defence?

Or do Foster to Howard, Harte to Rafael and keep Sturridge?

Also planning Bale to Fellaini for -4

    Cheers

Yeah I'd probably rather get Giroud than Berbatov. Two home games and better fixtures after the double.

I've done Davies-> Sagna, and I'm 99% sure I'll do Mata->Fellaini for -4. After that I'm still debating whether to shift Sissoko for Walcott or Pienaar for a further -4.

Haha. Quite similar to me, in fact.

Had 2 FTs. Done Harte->Sagna. Will do Mata->Fellaini. What I am debating is whether I want to do Sissoko->Walcott (hehe, or Pienaar even) or Lambert->Berba/Giroud. What do you reckon is most pressing?

It is not easy, this game.

              🙂

That is tricky, because I like Lambert and Giroud both more than Sissoko, Walcott and Pienaar. I'd probably do the midfield transfer I think, to get rid of the weakest player.

However, after watching the game last night, I do think Sissoko looked a bit sharper. And I am usually punished when I lose patience. And I must say I fancy a Giroud brace this GW.

I am also thinking about whether to chop Lampard or Mata, but I am fairly certain it will be Mata. Think Lampard looks more assured of starts.

Well, I will have to think about it. Cheers and good luck. 😀

I'm about 55 points ahead in both my cash mini-leagues and playing my wildcard this week. None of my rivals have a wildcard remaining. Is the best strategy...
