The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 37

We’re back in form. After a barren run of four weeks without a win, two of our “flutter” markets came in last time out, with both Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale helping us to get one over on Paddy and leave us in buoyant mood going into this weekend’s selection of Scout Pick inspired bets.

With our winnings secured tightly in our mitts, we’re straight in with our bet of the week. Marouane Fellaini is surely due a goal after missing countless opportunities in recent matches. He could be playing his last game at Goodison and we’ve shown confidence in the Belgian by backing him in the Scout Picks. With Paddy offering 5/1 on a Fellaini goal with an Everton clean sheet against West Ham, it seems a no-brainer to put our money where our mouth is and go a stage further. We’ll put a cocky £4 on this one.

We’re equally confident about Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge this week. Frustrated by Everton in the Merseyside stalemate, we just can’t see Martin Jol’s back four coping with Sturridge and, with the Cottagers in such miserable form, Paddy’s offer of 11/2 on a Sturridge goal with a Liverpool clean sheet against Fulham look favourable enough to warrant another £2 of our stake.

Adam Johnson was pushed up behind Danny Graham in a central role by Paolo Di Canio in Monday’s draw with the Potters. He’ll surely be deployed in a similar position for the Black Cats’ crunch encounter with Southampton and we’re backing him to make the difference with a spot on our Scout Picks bench. Paddy aren’t so sure and have a Johnson goal with a Sunderland clean sheet against the Saints at a tempting 13/1. We’ll gladly take that for another £2.

That leaves another couple of quid for this week’s treble. Having narrowly missed out in last week’s bet – we just needed a Sergio Aguero goal at Swansea to give us a third win – again, we’re feeling in confident mood. Paddy have slapped 5/1 on a Gareth Bale goal at Stoke, a Robin Van Persie strike in the emotional home clash with Swansea and a clean sheet for Everton against the Hammers.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Loads of posts today about City players and rotation...it's a ridiculous situation. How many times this season must RVP have played games 4 or 5 days apart including PL, Internationals, domestic cups and CL ?....loads...and is he on his knees with exhaustion..no !!...Why does Mancini think his players are incapable of it ?..It would have been really easy for SAF to have gone down the route of rotating his strikers but he knows the value of continuity. If players can't play games 4 or 5 days apart then why sign them in the first place ?

Mancini takes it to extreme. I actually think Benitez has the right idea - one game off every 5-6 games for his top players...

Yes and that I think is the major problem...and in the end he pleases nobody. He started with four strikers and so far one has gone to another club...another had a few months off in Argentina..and all of them have been up and down in form all year...

It takes about 3-5 days for intra-muscular stores of glycogen to fully replenish and a similar amount of time for physiological adaptations to take place post a maximal exertion. For a stretch they should be able to play every 3-4 days, but this level of activity consistently would certainly mean some below par performances due to physiological fatigue...

You also need to account for losing match day sharpness because they aren't playing enough. All players are physiologically different anyway and in many cases rest is the wrong decision

yep, there does need to be a balance and thats where nutritional replenishment is an art thats comes into its own in these situations...there is a landmark study by D.L. Costill showing muscle glycogen utilisation and its replenishment, during prolonged exercise on consecutive days that is worth taking a look at, if you are interested in this area...

Oh I don't disagree that from time to time players need a rest....RVP/Ronaldo/Bale are the extreme when it comes to recovery and not the norm, I know that...But what Mancini does is just ridiculous at times and more to do with what Granville said...Trying to keep too many players happy and in the end not even doing that...

aye, certainly, there is much more to it of course and with Man City I'd agree, a large squad of primma donnas to nurse by a manager who appears from the outside to have poor man-management skills...lot of politics in football nowadays...

Thing is its not that they can't play that often but rather that they will be 5 or 10 percent below optimum and- most importantly - the opposition may not have played for a week and have an advantage. All about inches, as al Pacino once said.

Yeah but the trade off is this...If you don't play strikers regularly (continuity was the word SAF used) then they lose their sharpness...so is that more or less than 10 %,,,Either way Ba and Aguero have turned into just average players because of it...

is it worth an 8pnt hit to get RVP back in? I see united getting alot of goals. Problem is, will he even play the following week?

    Hazard ➡ Lampard -4??

Would mean benching Maloney and keeping Yaya in the hope he plays v Reading & Norwich. Could also bring Lamps in for Yaya but just can't see Hazard starting being an injury doubt before the final.

RVP an absolute must-have this week (as per non dgw usual)

Aguero, Hazard > Fellaini, RVP (-4)
Aguero, Hazard, Michu > Coutinho, Lampard, RVP (-8)

not sure how much of a must-have lamps also is, but double hit to own both

    Hart
    Vert baines sagna
    Mata Maloney Bale Walcott (C)
    Anichebe Kone Sturridge

    Subs: Begovic, Michu, Boyce, Wilson.

The only other thing tempting me is Michu -> Ben Arfa (-4). Will it be worth it over the two weeks though?

Hey guys, can I get a quick dose of reasonableness before heading out the door for the weekend?

    Michu > Walcott
Sissoko > Marveuax (only to free up $ - don't expect to play him in last 2 GWs)

    Leaving me with:

    DDG
    Baines Sagna MartinR
    Bale Walcott Fellaini Maloney
    RVP(C) Tevez Lambert

    Any glaring problems?

Can we all make a league up with the teams we all support??! Divided in to 2 sections
Say If you support man.u and liverpool you would be in the north group
If ou support swansea and chelsea/or any London teams then you will be in the South Group (Just like the elite u21s Group)
    North teams
    Man.City
    Man.United
    Everton
    Liverpool
    Stoke
    Hull
    South Teams
    Arsenal
    West Brom
    Chelsea
    Tottenham
    Swansea
    Cardiff
    Southampton
    WestHam
*haven’t included the other teams as they could still go down!p
