PlayON Returns To The Scout

We’re delighted to announce that Fantasy Football Scout will be supporting PlayON over the coming season – a weekly Fantasy game which debuted on the site at the tail-end of the last campaign. Many of our community tried the game out at that time and, due to the positive reaction from you and our own enjoyment in playing the game, we’re now supporting the game for the duration of the 2013/14 season.

This will mean some pre-season guides which will outline the deeper strategies of the game next week, with regular weekly articles offering tips for the forthcoming Gameweek. We’ll also be running official Fantasy Football Scout game with prize pools donated by PlayON. There’s also plans for specific PlayON tables for our members, to help give them that extra edge. More on all that to come.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday page is also worth experiencing. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week. Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated. We’ll bring you more on this feature next week.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out Ferrero Rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

There is a “Freebie” game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates. You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game”.

As it is the start of the season, PlayON have an offer for people creating a multiplayer game for their friends – set up a real money game for Gameweek 1 and when 10 people join, PlayON will add a £10 bonus to the pot so everyone benefits.

We’ve also got our own regular Fantasy Football Scout multiplayer game dedicated to our community. That’s just £2 to enter and PlayON are guaranteeing a £500 prize pot in Gameweek 1 – potentially, this offers a fine start to the season for one of our community members. PlayON will also be providing more guarantees and bonuses each month throughout the season – so get involved!

You have to be aged over 18 to play real money games at PlayON and if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

RMT please and I know you're probably going to hate it for lack of DGW interest but hey ho, here we go:

    Migs / Boruc

    Mertesacker / Terry / Collins / (Shaw) / (Brayford)

    Mirallas / Coutinho / Hazard / Walcott / (Morrison)

    Soldado / Lambert / Giroud

Soldado was in their confed cup team and looked good. I believe he was overlooked for this squad because of a lack of pre-season due to moving.

Why are you willing to pay 11mill for a forward that could EASILY be rotated and not start each game? And btw I'm punting on Lukaku and leaving 6m in the bank in case I do get Aguero ;).

That's why I've got him on standby WR 😉 Dont get me wrong I value your opinion highly my friend, but I always feel put off by the Mancity Rotation up front tbh. I'm willing to pay for RvP the amount that'll allow me to (c) him against Palace because that'll be the week that I'll get him in. From then on, it's a different debate. Now could you please elaborate your choice of Aguero and not Silva maybe? (I respect your choices buddy dont get me wrong no need for any agressiveness :D)

Your argument is like saying 'oh why even get Bale when he could easily be outscored by Walcott'

Contrary to my grav, I would not consider myself a Man Utd supporter, rather an RVP fan and a Man Utd follower. Regarding Rooney, I think any fan of quality, the Premier League or English football should welcome Rooney's transfer. Rooney's quality should not be wasted on the bench or as a super sub. Whether or not he stays of leaves United, I hope we get to see his quality week after week. /rant

City have an extra day to rest (compared to Chelsea, where all the talk has been w.r.t. Mata & Azpi). They also don't have a game in the midweek to think of (again, unlike Chelsea).

So I would be inclined to believe that Silva will most likely start the game, as there are 5 days between the friendly (Wednesday) and City vs Newcastle (Monday).

I've actually lost the link :(. Please send it over if you've got it?

Yaya will play more often, but Silva will be more explosive, so their overall scores could be similar. That's the theory anyway!

Personally, I would go for Silva over Yaya (think it's worth the extra £0.5m) if I were buying a City mid.

Although, to be honest, if you're spending cash on midfielders I'd go for explosive options like Hazard & Walcott (even Coutinho) over Silva/Yaya. Or go for a cheaper option like Mirallas/Snodgrass/etc., who could offer similar returns IMO.

I think he is a really good shout.. But whenever I've included him in my side he was the one that many told to change..
He is sure to be in the thick of the action for City and with their new coach he may be more attack minded than normal..
A top 10 midfielder without a doubt. Probably overlooked because he doesn't start further forward and people are focusing too much on players who aren't as consistent but may perform better in ff terms.

    RMT please folks!

    Migs / Boruc

    Mertesacker / Terry / Collins / (Shaw) / (Brayford)

    Mirallas / Coutinho / Hazard / Walcott / (Morrison)

    Soldado / Lambert / Giroud

I know Lambert, or Lamborghini as my phone tried to correct him to, isn't a massively popular choice but I can see him having another solid season. Unglamorous perhaps.

Lambert is a good choice mate and he'll be buzzing with confidence after the callup, good fixtures too
I want him too but currently have Lukaku, Bony and Soldado with an eye on Rooney in case he makes that switch to Chelsea.
Lambert in for Lukaku at GW2 or 3 for me...
Coutinho is the only pick I dont like, I'd have Silva instead but if your set on Coutinho then that team is good to go!

        Appreciate the feedback mate!

Yeah I keep swinging between Lukaku and Lambert. I shall think about that one.

As for Silva vs Coutinho - Silva frustrated me last season with his influential involvement but poor conversion rate into FPL points. He promised so much and yet didn't deliver. Do you think this season will be different?
Coutinho is a bit of a punt but can't aee better at his price point. He's impressed in pre-season.

He wasnt so bas last yr, 147pts vs 184 the previous season so 37pts less from 300 less mins.
I think the difference last yr was he wasnt as consistent as the previous season so lots of people lost confidence in him and there were too many other tempting options around for less money.
Fellaini, Snodgrass, Michu (who are all more expensive now) and the form of Haz, Mata, Walcott, Caz and of course Bale led to everyone 'baling' on Silva but theres no mistaking the guy is top class.
I'm expecting extra BP's from him in this new system too and with Pellegrinis emphasis more on attacking I think he'll surpass his 2012 numbers, he's still the best player in that squad if you ask me...
Its all just 'gut feeling' tho and on the other side you have Coutinho who 'can' score.
I guess I just dont have as much confidence in Liverpool..... but good luck to you on that count, these are the very punts that make or break us eh! 🙂

Im weighing up getting Mata instead of Lukaku as my third Chelsea player to cover the DGW.

    Lukaku:
PROS - He's a striker. More goal threat.
CONS - Far less nailed on. Leaves me with no Tottenham cover (Soldado) vs Palace.

    Mata:
PROS - Nailed on. On set plays. Lets me have Soldado vs Palace.
CONS - Less explosive. Being played OOP on the right?

Who should I be leaning towards lads?

For GW1 alone (I assume), and regardless of price:
      1) Lukaku
      2) Benteke
      3) van Persie
      4) Aguero

      6) Sturridge
      7) Iago Aspas
      8) Altidore
      9) Lambert
      10) Berbatov

Any Spurs or City striker could be great, but besides Aguero, I don't think any others are (virtually) guaranteed to start. Any one of Defoe, Adebayor and Soldado could start. Although I admit Soldado is most likely, I'd rather wait a couple of weeks for this to be confirmed. And I'm not willing to gamble on picking which 2 will play out of this bunch - Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo, Jovetic.

    Mata's preseason minutes.

vs Inter; subbed ON at 45'
vs Milan; subbed ON at 45' - 3 shots on goal, 2 on target
    vs Real; DNP

    (source: ESPNFC.com)

Mata picked up a "new injury" according to Mourinho and "is working with the physios in Washington instead of travelling here. We’ll see if they [Mata/Luiz] can join the team and play a little against Roma.”

If he plays vs Roma; likely he'll be available for selection come the start of the season?

I agree on HBA, he's difficult to predict at the best of times, very hot and cold.

Collins is apparantly under threat from Tomkins according to the preseason minutes theyve played, Doosra is the guy keeping a close watch on that..

I don't think you can say historically Snoddy is an away man with too much backing. He has had one season in the Prem and yes his first 4 goals were away but his last 2 were at home and 5 of his 9 assists were at home too. I had Snoddy all of last season and so had to pay attention to him and quite simply he was one of those players that you just had to stick with home and away and wait for the good days. A.Johnson was very similar.

A lot of those goals were also from set pieces and so it wasn't a sign of his or Norwich's style of play, those just happened to be the ones that found the back of the net.
