PlayON Returns To The Scout

We’re delighted to announce that Fantasy Football Scout will be supporting PlayON over the coming season – a weekly Fantasy game which debuted on the site at the tail-end of the last campaign. Many of our community tried the game out at that time and, due to the positive reaction from you and our own enjoyment in playing the game, we’re now supporting the game for the duration of the 2013/14 season.

This will mean some pre-season guides which will outline the deeper strategies of the game next week, with regular weekly articles offering tips for the forthcoming Gameweek. We’ll also be running official Fantasy Football Scout game with prize pools donated by PlayON. There’s also plans for specific PlayON tables for our members, to help give them that extra edge. More on all that to come.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday page is also worth experiencing. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week. Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated. We’ll bring you more on this feature next week.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out Ferrero Rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

There is a “Freebie” game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates. You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game”.

As it is the start of the season, PlayON have an offer for people creating a multiplayer game for their friends – set up a real money game for Gameweek 1 and when 10 people join, PlayON will add a £10 bonus to the pot so everyone benefits.

We’ve also got our own regular Fantasy Football Scout multiplayer game dedicated to our community. That’s just £2 to enter and PlayON are guaranteeing a £500 prize pot in Gameweek 1 – potentially, this offers a fine start to the season for one of our community members. PlayON will also be providing more guarantees and bonuses each month throughout the season – so get involved!

You have to be aged over 18 to play real money games at PlayON and if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Morning chaps. With Lamps a doubt who should my second Chelsea middy be? Already have Hazard. I can afford Ramires (is he nailed on ish)? but not Oscar.

if Mata starts looking more nailed on then Mata as he's their best player and has done well for 2 seasons now already. atm hazard is the most nailed on and did well in last seasons DGW opener - there is a reason he is the highest owned mid now. - But he's not going to be much of a differential and anyone of Oscar, hazard, mata and lampard ect can bring home the points.

Ramires has been ping-ponging in and out of my team. I like him as DGW punt only and has seen more minutes in pre-season that any of their other deep lying midfielders. Mourinho loves him aswell.

Dont know if this has been linked yet but the Guardian are currently doing in depth previews of each team.

This link is to Arsenal, the 1st team to be reviewed. The articles are better than the vids.

Dont waste a forward slot for a mid, and benteke will be a problem after his DGW with a blank and more bad fixtures to follow. terry isnt nailed on for both games but cole pretty much is and then ivanovic. Soldado is unproven in prem but has good fixtures so he's an expensive punt atm, Oscar might be a problem of rotation there but thats 3 players that are either unproven or are gonna be on the bench. I'd say downgrade thr weakest mid and one of those def and bring in a better 3rd striker and play 3 - 4 - 3. The 3 - 5 - 2 system is for the Sky game.

So I just spent the last 13 minutes watching all of Bale's 31 goals last year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHsIzHLctgI).

In all seriousness, transfer rumours, love him hate him banter aside, it would be fantastic for a fantasy stand point to have a 12 million rated midfielder.

        Why?

Let's say you have Bale and RVP. Two big hitters. For arguments sake, you have Cech in goal and Hazard as well. That's 42 million spent on 4 players. They are going to grab the lions share of points week in and week out.

That leaves an average of 5.3 million for the remainder of your team. It's going to be all up to finding differentials and the players that are good for their respective team playing the right fixture.

Personally, I think it would be extremely interesting. Add in the new bonus point systems and finally players that are just simply good passers and all around footballers might be key to winning it this year.

The opposite i feel - if we are all forced into having Bale and RVP its less interesting as be are basically choosing 9 players to start and not 11. it will be more interesting if bale and RVP fail to deliver and teams will look more diversified but dont see that happening unless bale moves.

          CECH (Given)
          Pieters Toure Shaw (Brayford Turner)
          BALE HAZARD Wanyama Snodgrass (Kim)
          RVP Lambert Berbatov

Even though I don't think RVP will live up to his 14M price tag. Could easily go for the next highest priced striker, Aguero or Suarez for example, both 11M and spend 3M on Anelka to Giroud or someone

yes but he just doesan't score goals and there worth more than BP's. ManU oddly have no obvious player in their midfield for fpl - last season it was all Evra and RVP. They need to sign someone there like fabregas whom they were after and then he'd be a good pick.

Depends where the extra 1m goes doesant it because right now not much between Dzeko and Giroud- both have good fixtures and good pre seasons, but surely Dzeko is a doubt even short term, he scored 4 goals in a game 2 seasons ago and then next game 1 pt cameo - amazing how you can rest such a player after such a performance but its because city have so many good options that its going to be very hard finding the right one in any given GW so Giroud is the better option.

There is an article about AVB's vertical football. I dont have the link but it was interesting.

He sets the team up to get the ball to the target man as quickly as possible, which is obviously good for soldado

Soldado is an intriguing prospect. So much is unknown about him though. I'd need to see him play for Spurs first before having the confidence to pick him straight away. A Benteke -> Soldado swap after the DGW might be a better option.

Well i think he's saying Giroud lacked confidence last season but still brought home some good scores - i reckon we can just watch tot last pre season game and see if soldado plays well then it will make the decision easier.

he is a potential bargain and a potential waste of a forward spot and it will take 2 transfers to move him out because he's so cheap. 6 goals in 6 games is good sign though only thing against him is his age and he might get rested because of it.

We don't want to sell him because it will strengthen Chelsea as basically giving a huge head start to the league.
But on the other hand, he is not even guarentee a starting place, seems like a huge waste money for someone who is not a key player for the team

Is it worth taking a punt on a striker for GW1?

There are a few candidates who have shown good form in pre season and look set to start in GW1. However their spot may come under pressure as the season unfolds or they might have tough fixtures.

Players such as Giroud(crap), Benteke(fixtures), Lukaku(rotation), & Dzeko(rotation) in particular fall into the punt category.

One might argue that its wasteful to take a punt on a player who might cost you an early transfer. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Personally I am of the opinion that we should treat any free transfer as precious and we should not take any punts for GW1 unless you are set on an early wild card.

I am on Giroud at the moment. He seems the least 'punty' as no rotation risk and good fixture. Easy switch to Soldado when you chuck your Chelsea player.

Dzeko really does tempt me, much more risk, potential for much more reward.

Lukaku wont play 120 mins imo. Have A Cole and Hazard which is enough for me, too much planning of transfers otherwise

Yes I agree with your Giroud assessment. He at least has the potential to become a genuine prospect. You'd have to trust your gut on that one.

Dzeko and Lukaku aren't worth it at all beyond GW1 imo. And even then they will become wasted transfers

IMO the DGW would cover any possible punt risk you may incur with Benteke and Lukaku. Arsenal are always leaky and Chelsea haven't got their back line sorted.

Plus, Hazard and Mata should be able to provide plenty of service for Lukaku against Hull/Villa.

You gotta go for a DGW player for best points potential over a single GW player.

punting on gametime is the greater problem because if he suddenly doesant look nailed on he has to get transfered out - costing transfers and points deductions.

I am also a little set in my ways, the strong mid teams with weaker forward lines scare me on captain choices. Thats why i like having RVP.

              A Cole/ Collins/ Parr/Chester/Coleman

You can rotate your captains according to fixtures of course. But yes it is a tad risky early on in the season when we don't know whats what.

Nice team though and it has a similar structure to mine. RVP teams are looking very respectable these days.

I fancy Jovetic Ryan but it would be an uber-punt:

"Jovetic will also fulfil a useful squad role in that he can play either as an out-and-out centre-forward or behind a front man, or on either flank – assuming Manuel Pellegrini employs a 4-2-3-1, he can operate in all four forward positions. He says he prefers operating off a front man but he has been used most often as a striker by Fiorentina over the past two seasons, in which time he has averaged roughly a goal every other game."

Yes his versatility is in his favour. Would you want a forward who plays the majority of games a bit deeper or out wide though? I can't see him playing up front regularly.

I understand that however he gains from this offside position. Thought the ref was supposed to let the play go if the player remained as non-interfering but blow up if the ball came back to that player.

Sort of, but the fact that he's onside means that at least one defender is level with him. This means it's not that much of an advantage tbf (the defenders are standing right next to him), he just reacts faster to the rebound.

            that is very very cheeky

players can't mark him, and when he is spotted on side, he has already a huge head start.

        Morning all

Phew, what a scorcher - 100.1 F here in sunny Tokyo right now. Hot enought to boil a monkey's bum.

I just renewed the league Another World - this is a league for people who support a team OUTSIDE the Premier League. Doesn't matter which country, if your main team is non-Premier League then you are very welcome. Even Leeds United fans smile:

        Code is: 169-302981.

        Cheers and good luck

Can I have an opinion please? 🙂

        Foster
        Clyne, Coleman, Turner
        Mirallas, Bale, Hazard, Wanyama,
        Lukaku, Bony, RVP

Subs - Boruc, Parr, Thomas, Chester

        Thanks 🙂

Clyne might be injured come GW 1, Foster could be improved, I think, and Wanyama as well. Bony has poor fixtures to begin with also.

Clyne doesn't seem to be starting.

Bony with his terrible fixtures might not be the greatest idea.

Having both Blae and RVP has made the remainder of your team feel very threadbare.

          Just my thoughts.

I think your team remains an option. Only thing is if you are planning an early wildcard its pointless to have Bale out of the hop.

is Pep the most lucky manager or what?

First he is blessed with the best player in he world, then now he is managing a treble team, when will we see his real skill?

He's earned the right to this position though and he's a very good coach.

Last year Tito Villanova had those same players, yet couldn't achieve what Pep did.

hazard for sure, lukaku looks like a good punt atm, cech is nailed on. Going for max attacking returns go with cech>ivan if ivan looks nailed before opening match.
