Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

No one with 3/4 DGW players should be unhappy with their score right now, 20 points at the very LEAST will be garnered there.

Cech x2, Hazard x2 (C), Lukaku x2 + Benteke x1 still to play, along with Lescott.

No point in even looking at my rank/average is there? It's all about how Chelsea do.

If those 4-5 transfers are just knee-jerking to get in the best performing GW1 players, I'd say save your WC.

If you're stuck with non-starters or Koscielny, it might not be a bad idea to remodel your team.

But saving your WC if you can is always the best policy!

To be honest I think RvP+2CheapStrikers won't outscore a combination like Benteke+Lukaku+Sturridge. But it is your call.

Why would anyone trade out Coutinho? He was the most dangerous player on the pitch and on another day could have scored 10+ points

Hi, would like to know how much money people spent on defense and how much points you earned from it.
For me, I spent 20m and get only 3 points so far. Which is very, very ugly 🙁 Only Iva left to play.

    What's yours?

Got good returns from Boruc (4.5) and Reid (5.0). Mert (5.5) got me nothing, and Zab (6.0) is still to play.

More than I typically like to spend on defense, but I had the budget.

12 minutes per chance, just behind that of RVP. Could be buy of the season.

Coming into GW3 which trade is better?

    A. Lukaku, Ivanovic, Benteke > Aguero, Lambert, Coloccini

B Lukaku, Ivanovic, Benteke > Dzeko, Lambert, Zabaleta

A if Aguero starts frequently. But you're transferring in players as they have played half of their decent fixtures. By the end of GW5, you'll want them out again.

Quote "Despite lining up at right-back today, Chambers is in fact described as a creative midfielder with an excellent final product. However he has been used as a right-back by the first-team in pre-season."

12 points with Hazard (C), Lukaku, Cole, Krul, Silva, Ward to come.

Doesn't make for pretty reading does it? Oddly, I'm still pretty happy with my squad (apart from Mannone and Rat).

Why is it so necessary to transfer out koscielny? A lot of people seem to think so but I am keeping him. Not worth the transfer IMO

Wait until you find out who's in favor at City. Make a move for one of them.

Why though? Are people writing arsenal off on the basis of one game? It's the same squad who went on an amazing run at the end of last season

True, but his fixtures aren't all that great for the next few and Arsenal are terribly short at the back.

Can't see them keeping clean sheets.

wait and see how Silva looks tomorrow. Coutinho looked good, unlucky to not have scored. Walcott could still be a great asset, but Arsenal looked dreadful. Michu always looks dangerous to me, but I would wait a week or two to assess his performance behind Bony.
