Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

Why remove Ivan? I'd wager that Lukaku is removable before Ivan, but wait and see what tomorrow's matches bring. You can always bench Ivan when he has his blank instead of transferring out a possible solid starter.

You just see managers want to give new signings a cameo sometimes before starting them the next game, e.g. Giroud last season. That being said, options for AVB are pretty thin on the ground - If I had a new 26m toy or Adebayor/Defoe I know who I'd start.

You know what, I'd definitely pick Negredo over Dzeko any day, mainly because I've seen the man play at the Sanchez Pizjuan (twice with my own eyes even!) and he is less forgiving than Dzeko and just as clinical. I'd say it's a no brainer but Manuel likes to go with the man in form and he's had some eloquent words to say about Dzeks.

No, the threshold has just increased to him requiring about twice as many net transfers out. -53,471 to be more exact. So it will just take longer for him to drop. I think you can expect one hit 0.1 at most if that.

Mertesacker was straight back in the starting 11 last season, after his red. Koscielny is Arsenal's best defender, so you would expect the same.

He's hot or cold, really. Has the potential to produce a world class performance, like against Liverpool at Anfield two years ago, when he save a penalty. On the other side, he still makes mistakes which in my opinion stem from his immaturity.

Wanted to make a good start in FPL for the first time in four seasons. Thanks to a classic example of overthinking on Saturday morning, I'm 2 mln in the world atm :).

Sold Mign+Jakupovic combo for Vorm+Marshall, because of the long term perspective. It resulted of switching Coleman to Toure.

Then I went for Walcott instead of Giroud for Arsenal cover and replace Aspas with Coutinho. WELL PLAYED.

Coutinho looked stellar though and there's every indication (if we're going by preseason) that Philippe will shine in the midfield. Walcott didn't look 100 % fit to me...FPL is a fickle mistress mate, I wouldn't have argued with your Saturday night debauchery.
