Season Predictions 2013/14 – The View From The Scouts

We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

    people overhyping Coleman i supose

he had only 2 crosses ?

i'd still pick Toure insated of him

Not entirely. He got forward a lot in that game. Had another excellent opportunity to get a goal, missed by a whisker.

But I agree, Evertons defence is not very solid and Coleman's not gonna score very often. Toure is a much better pick.

And that was the worst 4-1 victory I have seen

Also better than average still isn't good.

Repost. What to do with this lot?:

      Boruc,
      Toure, MTurner, Chester,
      Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Mirallas,
      RVP, Lukaku, Anelka.
Davis, Morrison, Ivanovic, Brayford. (0 ITB)

I was thinking Ivanovic -> Coleman looks like the best move? So can someone tell
me if any of those two will rise/fall in price tonight? Because if yes then I'll have to
pull the trigger soon. Or does anyone have any other transfer ideas? Cheers.

I think a lot of people had a plan on what they were going to do after GW1, and haven't waited for the dust to settle to see if it actually makes sense. Crazy, I don't get it. I have a fairly average set of points now, but i'm not even thinking about transfers until everyones had a game, anything could happen still.

Anyone else giving up defender rotation in favour of playing same three every week?

Thinking am just going to play Coleman Toure and Ivanovich's replacement every week, It impossible to know when the budget options will keep a clean sheet , and Coleman and co could get attacking returns in any fixturee

        That's the plan here too.

I've gone with Zabaleta - Toure - Ivanovic (to Collins most likely) to play every week + Ward/Chester rotation IF I ever need to play one of them.

I think it's a much better tactic than having a rotation 3 or 4 set.

Every player has a 'Target' amount of owners they have to acquire before their price rises. According to http://www.fiso.co.uk they've set that target at 37000 transfers IN.

Therefore if 37000 players transfer in a player, his price will rise by 0.1 at 3:00 am the next morning.

No, They do it around now - 9-10am the morning after a day with a game on. You can change captain only once though I think so I don't know if they have it coded to just not let you change or if you can change around and it is locked in when the deadline comes.

I'm not sure exactly what happens if you transfer out your captain though after you've had two different ones in a GW. I'd assume it would just count the new player as a normal amount of points and the (c) on them would only take effect at the start of the next GW if you left it on them.

It's worth testing out when you change your captain to who you want today to try and change it again to make sure it lets you.

I was very close to doubling up on Liverpool defense with Mignolet & Toure but with already having Coutinho and wanting to get Sturridge after this GW or GW4 I just stuck with Mignolet & Coutinho.

If Lukaku performs today would it be worth scraping that and sticking with a front 3 of Benteke, Lukaku & Bony and getting Toure in?

It would make the replacement for Koscielny an easy chose. The other options would be get a Newcastle defender in for their good run of games, a Southampton defender after how good they looked yesterday (Shaw/Lovren) or stick with Koscielny for now and play Ward away to Stoke next GW.

My two captaincy preferences for next week:
      A) Soldado (SWA)
      B) Benteke (LIV)

Leaning towards Soldado (depending on how he does today as well) because of Swansea shipping 4, though Liverpool notoriously struggle against very physical strikers - Benteke, Lukaku etc.
