Scout Scribbles – Mata Set for Villa Return

Chelsea’s David Luiz will miss out but Juan Mata is ready to return for tonight’s Bridge encounter with Villa. Sandro steps up his injury recovery. Norwich’s Sebastian Bassong also edges closer to a comeback, while Arsene Wenger’s walking wounded get patched up in time for tonight’s Champions League playoff.

Luiz Remains Sidelined But Mata’s Back

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that defender David Luiz is still recovering from a hamstring injury. The Brazilian is unavailable for tonight’s game against Aston Villa and should return to full training next week.

“Normally David Luiz should be available for next week. He is not yet with the group, he is training with fitness coaches and physios. He is better but not yet ready.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Juan Mata says he has recovered from a minor muscle injury picked up during pre-season training in America and hopes to play a part in the Villa game. Mata explained:

“I came back, worked with the physios and on Thursday last week trained with the team for the first time, not at 100 per cent, but trying to get to my best and now I feel better and am looking forward to playing and starting my season.”

Significantly, Mourinho focused on his three attacking midfielders in yesterday’s press conference. Acknowledging that a lack of energy was obvious in the second-half against Hull, he went on to underline the fact that he has a trio of alternatives to swap in to help with potential fatigue issues…

“Because the score was 2-0 I didn’t want to change immediately but you could see when I put Schurrle and Lukaku on, the team gave a little push that made a difference to that second half – but we have to try because it is a style of play very adapted to the qualities of our players, not to three of them but to six because we play with three but we have Moses and Mata and Schurrle for the same positions, so even with a busy schedule we can use rotation and keep this same profile of players.”

The Scout Says: Luiz’s absence offers greater security for owners of John Terry and Gary Cahill who look set to continue in defence against Aston Villa tonight, while Monday night’s trip to Old Trafford also looks too early for Luiz. With no other injuries among the first team regulars, there remains a question mark over Branislav Ivanović’s place at right back, with César Azpilicueta now available. Ivanovic could shift to a central defensive role this evening, perhaps for Terry who could be preserved for Monday’s clash. Mourinho certainly can’t take too many risks in his rearguard against visitors Villa who, following the win at Arsenal, have scored in 10 of their last 11 league outings.

Mata looks a shoo-in for a substitute appearance in the Villa game at least, with Mourinho surely hoping the Spaniard can return to the first XI for Old Trafford. Mata’s return is likely to lead to a bench role for Kevin De Bruyne, who occupied the right wing berth at Hull. This is a position Mourinho has penciled in for the left-footed Mata. Eden Hazard’s start is also in question with Andre Schurrle available on the left and perhaps even Victor Moses a factor. However, with Oscar perhaps the more likely to make way, Hazard’s owners will go into tonight’s game optimistic that the Belgian will play some part. The same can be said for Romelu Lukaku who showed enough intent from the bench against Hull to warrant a start for tonight’s clash; Demba Ba does present another option for Mourinho, however.

Sandro steps up recovery

Brazilian midfielder Sandro played 67 minutes for Tottenham’s under-21 side as he continues his return to fitness from a knee injury that had sidelined him since January. The 24-year old earned an assist, which was watched by Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas and technical director Franco Baldini. This latest outing for Sandro follows a brief substitute appearance in Spurs’ final pre-season friendly against Espanyol.

The Scout Says: This run out for the Spurs defensive midfielder brings his inclusion in the first XI a step closer. A bench role looks more likely against Swansea this weekend, but it is not inconceivable that Villas-Boas may consider a starting role for the midfielder, who has made 62 appearances for Spurs since joining in 2010. This could herald a period of rotation in the Spurs midfield, which is already bristling with talent following the signing of Etienne Capoue earlier this month. If Villas-Boas continues with the 4-2-3-1 formation against Crystal Palace that leaves Paulinho, Mousa Dembele, Sandro and Etienne Capoue competing for just two central midfield roles. However, Sandro’s return could also allow Villas Boas to switch to a 4-3-3 formation, meaning just one of that quartet will miss out with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s role behind the striker perhaps under threat from Paulinho who could be pushed further forward in a 4-3-3. Indeed, with rumours circulating of bids for both Willian and Erik Lamela amid the likely departure of Gareth Bale, Fantasy managers may decide to steer clear of the Spurs midfield until the transfer window slams shut and we are afforded a clearer assessment of the situation – in the meantime, Roberto Soldado looks the obvious option ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Swansea.

Bassong Close To First Team Return

Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villas in an Under 21 clash this week. This was the centre-back’s second game for the Canaries’ second string side this month, having played an hour against Stoke’s reserves last week.

The Scout Says: With 150 minutes of football now under his belt, team captain Bassong is almost certain to reclaim his place at the heart of the Norwich defence this weekend when the Canaries travel to Hull. After leaking two goals against Everton last weekend, Norwich’s defence could certainly do with his presence. This could be bad news for Russell Martin or Michael Turner. Manager Chris Hughton’s options include shifting club captain Martin to right back, a move that would seem harsh on Steven Whittaker, who scored one and laid on another in the 2-2 with the Toffees. Alternatively, Hughton may decide to bench Turner against his former club to allow Bassong to return. Owners of Whittaker, Turner and Martin face a nervous wait for Norwich’s next teamsheet with the smart money on the recent Whittaker investors being disappointed.

Gunners Patched For Turkey Trip

Despite picking up knocks during the 3-1 Emirates defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend, Bacary Sagna and Keiran Gibbs should be available for tonight’s Champion’s League qualifier against Fenerbahce in Turkey. Gibbs has recovered from a cut above the eye and Sagna avoided serious injury after falling awkwardly. Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky have also shaken off knocks and long term absentee Nacho Monreal is expected to return to the squad.

The Scout Says: Despite these key players emerging unscathed from the Aston Villa clash the Arsenal squad is still threadbare going into this crucial Champions League clash and the weekend’s trip to Fulham. Long terms injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen together with Laurent Koscielny’s one-match ban for two yellows against Villa, leave Wenger woefully short of options. The Arsenal manager can ill afford to rest stars like Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla or Olivier Giroud for tonight’s first leg and you have to question just what impact this will have come Saturday. Arsenal are the first in action at the weekend, kicking off at 12.45 at the Cottage, despite having to endure the rigours of tonight’s clash and the journey back.

City Continue to Sweat On Kompany Injury

Man City were forced to postpone scans on Vincent Kompany’s groin injury and are still uncertain as to the extent of the damage sustained. Reports suggests that the City skipper may have suffered a tear which would keep the Belgian sidelined until after the international break. We are due to find out more later today.

The Scout Says: The optimistic view is that City have lost Kompany for at least a fortnight which will see him miss the matches at Cardiff and against Hull – two prime candidates for City clean sheets. With the international break, there is a chance that Kompany could be back in the reckoning for the Gameweek 4 trip to Stoke – hardly a fixture designed to ease a player back from injury. There is, however, the issue of Belgium’s World Cup Qualifier with Scotland which could spark a club vs country battle.

Kompany’s absence will come as a bitter blow to City and his Fantasy owners alike. Manuel Pellegrini can, at least, welcome back Matija Nastasic to training and he could even come into contention for the trip to Wales. With Micah Richards sidelined, the Chilean’s options are certainly limited and that may deter any investment in the City defence during Kompany’s absence, despite the clean sheet against the Magpies. Pablo Zabaleta remains the key target for those seeking to gamble on City’s rearguard without Kompany’s assured presence.

Want to Kick Lukaku but for who ??????

The major problem of most of the fantasy
players , is to find replacement for Lukaku
( ofcourse could change today if he scores hatty
    against villa ).

    Option 1 : Lukaku ➡ Dzeko

Risky Punt , Not nailed on but nice stats also
    fixtures.

My Opinion : If you fancy to take a risk with those
favourable fixtures then go for it, but I will not go
for it simple because he is more of a rotation
    threat.

    Option 2 : Lukaku ➡ Bony

Unfavourable fixtures but a solid player which he
will prove in this season and main man ahead of
    Michu.

My Opinion : He is nailed on 100 % for sure (after GW 4) and
can grab goals and assists , the only downside is
fixtures for next 4-5 gws.If you want to risk him, could be a worthy punt.

    Option 3 : Lukaku ➡ Giroud (8.5M)

Fantastic Pre-Season form and player also, and
no rotation threat. Somewhat good fixtures if
there players are in form and are not injured.

My Opinion : He is worth a punt and can be a top
scorer in 2-3 gameweeks , but there backline is
full of injured players so he may like Rooney
midplay style. He is 0.5 more so may require
Hits , I don't like this route if you have Walcott
but if you dont have Walcott go for him.

    Option 4 : Lukaku ➡ RVW

100% nailed on with favourable fixtures and a
    set-piece players. Strong header player.

My Opinion : He is cheaper also and worth a punt
to go for 3-4 weeks and he.can be a penalty
player. Worth a go , the only downside can his
team create chances for him ????? Maybe.
If you think Norwich can create chances this
    season , Go for it.

    Option 5: Lukaku ➡ Soldado (9.0)

Beautiful Fixtures , a solid player and mainly he is
on penalty duties. Also no rotation threat

My Opinion : Go for it !!!!!!!!!!!
You may require Hits to bring him but he is worth
    it.

    Option 6: Lukaku. ➡ Lambert

He is a Bonus Magnet Player, on penalty duties
and also on set-pieces. Favorable fixtures for 4-5
    weeks

My Opinion: I am personally going for this route.
Thou the new signing player Osvaldo may tamper
with him but from my resources and knowledge
point he will threat for Rodriguez rather than
    Lambert.
You may still say he is threat or not nailed on ,
but ask yourself a question if you are a manager
will you drop him ??? and even if he drops I dun't
think he will not start next match.

    Option 7 : Lukaku ➡ Sturridge (9.0)

Strong Pre-Season and a gold fantasy player.
Strong Fixtures and nailed on player.

My Opinion: Go for it !!!!!!
The only downside is -4 point hit. But if you have
Coutinho I may not go for it. But wound't hurt to
    double.

    Option 8 : Lukaku ➡ RvP / Aguero (14/11 M)

Quality players nailed on 100 %. Aguero may not
but he will start every game more than 60 mins.

My Opinion: Go for it !!!!!!!!
If you are in Wildcard now.

    Option 9: Lukaku ➡ Berbatov

Fixtures are somewhat ok not that great, also his consistency is a bit of problem.

My Opinion : Avoid him for now !!!!

    Options 9 : Lukaku ➡ Anelka

Not bad fixtures but not too good also. He is now in thirties age , so who knows will he scores or not. Also Vydra in threat with his position.

    My Opinion: Avoid him !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Verdict--------------- :
Lukaku Lambert is thee best option if you can
go for it. If you have already triple on SoT , then
RvW or a long term punt Bony.

      Thanks for that.

      It's worth noting that:

      - Soldado is 9.5m
      - The next few weeks will be a good test how Swansea deal with Europa League commitments
      - Bent signing for Fulham will mean Berba in the hole more often, which could hugely dent his appeal. It's not sure exactly how he will be effected so we should only monitor for now.
      - I don't think Lambert will be simply dropped, but we should definitely take the possibilty into account

Yup it is too risky to pick Fulham fowards, this few gameweeks.

Bony will be nailed on 90% from GW 3 but I suggest for 100% in GW4 to be pretty safe.

I think Soldado, Giroud or Sturridge strike me as being the best options there as all 3 nailed on for top 6 clubs.

I would wait to see how the Southampton situation will play put before buying in Lambert. I think he may be more at risk than JRod than most people think. JRod is younger and has more upside. Lambert is older and if Pochetino is building for the future JRod will be a big part of that.

Anelka allows people with RVP to have a 3rd high priced midfielder and he'll get games and goals but unlikely to be prolific.

Bony and RVW are OK options but not ones I'm particularly interested in. Unsure what Bent will now do to Berbatov.

I have Dzeko and will certainly keep him for next 2 games. If I was getting rid of him I think I'd probably go for Giroud as I have Soldado already but I think Aspas could be a decent shout at £7m.

one. ONLY JUST REALISED ASPAS IS 7m thought he was 7.5 for some reason.

Which do you think is the better option? Having RVP with one weaker striker and a strong midfield or having a huge top 3 and one weak midfielder (kim) playing each week.

I think Giroud or RVP are the best options. I watched Giroud in pre season and although we may not have have played the greatest of teams in Asia, some of his finishes were outstanding, yet he carried on his prolific form against Napoli and Man City. He fully deserves the stats from pre season as sometimes you see a player with great stats that really didn't warrant them or was nailed on for a starting role, like Shola Ameobi.

Not only is RVP a million more than last year but there are fewer Lambert, Michu, Fellaini and Nolan bargains to compensate.

For me, the game has changed and combining 3-4 hitters in midpark (perhaps of couple from CHE after the blank) with 3 x 7.5-9.5 strikers could bode well.

I think it's a toss up to be honest, I've gone down the no-RVP route as I think it's a good option but I also think there'll be a lot of weeks where I get blown away by teams with RVP. I think it's an indication the pricing is excellent this season.

My little tallying up exercise has flagged up just how similar our teams are by the way - only differences are:

        Nolan Silva
        Lambert Rodriguez
        Price Marshall
        Kim Williams
        Shaw Toure

Interesting thought. I think we have a lot of people who that scenario would be perfect for though, so I reckon someone of them will have to sit on the bench. Iva Terry partnership makes perfect sense versus the physicality of Benteke IMO. Azp is much, much quicker than Iva and would be nice on the right versus Gabby and Weimann.

When its like this it just feels more better to go for the big hitter, does not feel right benching a 6.5 defender no matter who they play, plus if chester does outscore him it wont be as bad as he is 4.0 bench fodder really

Agreed. I constructed my GW 1 team based on (c) options, so I didnt have to worry about a situation arising.

Wally, Haz, Silva, Coutinho, Soldado and Benteke. I am quite happy with it for now at least. When I bring in someone like Bony or Lambert it'll add to it even more.

To get RVP in for GW 4, would you drop Hazard or Silva? While alsoconsidering that you have no other players to 'cover' Chelsea and City.

Too early to tell probably huh?

I would wait a few weeks to see if Hazard settles into the current Mourinho tactics and also if Silva will get rotated constantly or will have a big part (60 mins) in most games.

An interesting feature but it was quite obvious what would be required this GW. Majority of people are panicking over RVP and shipping out Lukaku. Anyone with RVP commonly has an issue with to many players who would only score 2 points a game usually.

I am taking into consideration , that Soldado Giroud.and Sturridge any of this one must be having in fantasy teams...

Lambert will play each and every match, dunt worry about it.

Thou you get RvP , but have to take anelka 🙁 I dunt think... you can get a balanced te with RvP without Anelka.

Aspas is also good until Suarez comes.

      Boruc (Migs)
Reid Toure Shaw (Olsson B Turner)
      Mirallas Snodgrass Nolan Hazard (Kim)
      RVP Giroud Benteke

That is for this GW, subs were Ivan --> Shaw and Lukaku --> RVP
That was always my plan I scored 71 points so far with a team that was only 96.0m 🙂

Sturridge. He will spend half the season injured.

      Benteke most explosive.

Soldado will be solid if not spectacular.

I think Benteke just because I think Villa won't be anywhere near as good as Pool/Spurs, but I would say he also has the fewest question marks. Spurs have a lot of new players and who knows how they'll mesh, and how Soldado will adapt to the new league. I think Sturridge will be fine, but who knows how he'll be affected if and when Suarez returns.
