The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 2

Before we take a look at the Scout Pick markets for Gameweek 2, a reminder that Paddy are offering exclusive enhanced odds for Fantasy Football Scout visitors on Robin Van Persie to score anytime in Monday night’s game. Available to new accounts only, if you’ve yet to get a Paddy Power account, you can sign up and get these exclusive odds right here. Existing account holders can also get in on the act with Van Persie: Paddy have a money back special on offer for the Chelsea clash.

Van Persie aside, and with our weekly tenner in hand, lets look at some of the other names in this week’s Scout Picks and see how Paddy’s number crunchers rate their chances.

A man of the match showing in Monday’s 4-0 Magpies mauling failed to bring Edin Dzeko a goal but we’ve taken a punt on the Bosnian for the Picks this week. Rotation is always a concern but with Dzeko in full flow, we see him starting at Cardiff and carrying a big threat to Malky MacKay’s men. Paddy aren’t quite so sure, offering 5/1 on a Dzeko goal with a City clean sheet, odds perhaps influenced by the injury to Vincent Kompany. We reckon this is fairly generous and we’re happy parting with £4 of our stake money.

Our gamble on Dzeko forced Southampton’s Rickie Lambert onto the Scout Picks bench but he remains a hot property ahead of the St Mary’s clash with Sunderland. Off the mark from the spot at West Brom last time out, Lambert may now feel under threat from new striker, Pablo Osvaldo, which might well fuel a convincing display against the Black Cats. Again, Paddy have priced a Lambert goal with a Southampton clean sheet at 5/1, enough to tempt another £2 from our weekly purse.

Our final two markets switch to midfield with Paddy dangling 6/1 on a Kevin Mirallas goal and an Everton clean sheet in their home clash with West Brom. Similarly, they match those odds for Stoke’s Britannia clash with Crystal Palace, with Scout Pick Jon Walters offered at 6/1 for an anytime goal with a Potters clean sheet against Ian Holloway’s side. Of the two, we’re going to opt for Mirallas, putting up our final £4 quid on the Belgian and the Toffees to deliver.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Since you have Shaw, I'd normally say go with Mignolet, but it's hard to see any team keeping Villa out at the moment, they're flying. Tricky one but I think Mignolet's higher price makes him the pick whenever you're not sure, he's your "Number 1" essentially.

I wouldn't stress about it too much, you could flip a coin it's that close. I think Soton are marginally more likely to get the CS, but if you play Boruc and Shaw, one flukey goal is a big difference in points. Nice grav and name btw, what a bloke he was.

Play Toure over Terry. I'd have Soldado (C), Silva (VC) but it's a toss-up this early in the season really.

    Long term Forward places optimisation.

Ignoring short term considerations (eg. Man City good 2 fixtures or Chelseas upcoming blank), I put a lot of thought into how my fwd line is to be structured.

I have a template defence (Migs is an unnecessary luxury if funds are needed elsewhere) of
    Migs/Boruc
    Zab Coleman Shaw/Collins Chester
Im also happy to stick with 2 budget and rotating mids: Whittingham/Barkley.

This leaves 6 slots for the forward lines and 56.5m (58m if no Migs) to spend, or put another way budget of almost 9.5m per player! Now the top 6 teams come the end of the season will be Chelsea, Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Sp*rs & Liverpool in whatever order; so the logical thing to do would be too pick the best player from each team.

Of course this ignores viable mid-price options from other teams (such as Benteke, Lambert, Miralles, Michu/Bony etc), but the idea is that those players should only be in your team if fixtures/form truly warrant it, because placing one of these players in your automatically means you are going to miss out on coverage of one or more of the top 6.

So going along with this theme/strategy, which 6 players to choose.

Man Utd. There is only one player worth considering here, but he will dent your budget for another top 6 player. I dont see another viable option unless Kagawa comes good or they sign someone (Ozil?).

City: Dzeko is not a long term option, nor is Negrado/Jovetic for the same reasons. So its Silva (9) or Aguero (11). Taking into account the price and the likelihood of game time Im inclined to choose Silva here.

Chelsea: Hazard (9.5) & Oscar (8.5) stand out. Lukaku if he nails a place will be a must (7.8) and could solve the RVP problem.

Sp*rs: Soldado (9.5) is the main man, and the only player worth considering i think.

Liverpool: Studge or Coutinho (both 9).

Arsenal: Walcott (9.5) ideally. Failing this there are some decent options in the arsenal side, Rambo (5.5) is looking class, Jack (6.5) could come good and Giroud (8.5) is good value. They will be busy in the next week also signing new players who will come into the frame.

So given the above the template for my team is
    Silva Hazard(or Walcott)
    RVP Soldado

Leaving 2 slots to fill, and 14.5 left to do so. As the Liverpool players are 9 each, this leaves 5.5 for a budget player. There are no decent strikers for 5.5, so that pretty much forces us to choose Sturridge. Therefore the remaining 5.5 goes on Rambo from Arsenal, which logically forces us to choose Hazard (although in the medium term arsenals fixtures may warrant a double up).

I hope this analysis proves that there is no easy way to get star coverage of all the top teams and fit RVP without making some form of sacrifice. Personally, Ive chosen to weaken the Arsenal coverage (Rambo over Walcott) but many options are possible.

The no-RVP sacrifice for instance might look like Hazard Walcott Kagawa Aguero Soldado Sturridge and may look better on paper, but thats just down to personal preference. For me RVPs fixtures up until Xmas make him a perma-captain.

There is one final alternative and that is the no RVP no Aguero option which allows coverage of all the top 6 and a quality mid-price player (instead of one of the budget mids) and played correctly with form and fixtures could be the strongest of all.
