The ScoutCast – Episode 111 – Bung

There are no brown envelopes in sight; this “bung” is firmly placed in my nasal passages as I clamber from my man-flu grief pit to sit alongside Granville and take my Gameweek medicine. After seeing me off by 21 points, it’s only fair I gave my co-host his moment of glory, regardless of being short of match fitness.

Somehow we end up arguing about Robin van Persie once again, before taking a gander at the bandwagons rolling and preview the weekend’s action the only way we know how: by rambling endlessly and singling out some dubious player picks along the way.

Get your repeat prescription via this link or cure your ailments via the easy to swallow player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looking at possibly WC-ing next week, but still undecided.

    Current team (0FT):

    Foster* Boruc
    Toure* Coleman Turner Chester Ward
    Silva Walcott Coutinho Mirallas Williams*
    Benteke Soldado Dzeko

    * = injured or not playing

Coutinho and Mirallas are trying my patience and I'm not 100% convinced about Soldado.

Can put this lot together as a WC team which is kind of tempting me:

    Migs 4.0
    Coleman Collins Fonte Chester Ward
    Silva Walcott Paulinho Hernandez Whittingham
    RVP Beneteke Sturridge

    Thoughts?

It seems you need Chelsea cover. I think you should wait, no need to use WC yet. Paulinho and Hernandez are not good choices imo

Just think Chelsea could be a rotation minefield. Had Hernandez there as he rotates well with Whittingham

current team is okay and could be managed without WC

WC team is okay - does it have any money left over?

see what happens over the weekend; no need to decide now

No money left over sadly. Will definitely wait to see what happens this weekend before committing but could well be last chance saloon time for the likes of Coutinho and Mirallas

I wouldn't buy either. Just too much potential heartbreak. I guess I'd go Dzeko if I had to, but I genuinely think it's 50/50 as to which one starts this weekend.

Sturridge/Soldado/Giroud, maybe Lambert/Osvaldo. I guess if you were planning on wildcarding next week, I'd say Negredo/Dzeko but I don't think either is a good long term play until one of them proves that they're nailed on.

Definitely a couple to monitor. I Dunno if either will nail down a place though, might need an injury to Vidic/Ferdinand/Ivanovic to become relevant.

One of them (if not both) will get an opportunity to play this season and will be a factor at some point.

If Vidic or Rio go down (which is likely at some point)

      or

If any Che defender (outside of Cole) gets hurt Ivan can switch to CB and Azpi will play RB. I suppose if Cole gets hurt bertrand will get the nod at LB.

Nonetheless, there will be value at some point in the united or CHE defense if and when injuries arise....just not now

Jones is probably best as a CB and may very well be next in line ahead of Evans should someone get hurt. Once Rafael returns that is.

Apart from that, any clue on whether he is going to start?

    Attention everyone:

We don't like reading the same question more than once over a few pages. So before you post something look up and see if your question has already been answered!

I'm wondering also if the Captains Poll is up and isn't working for me, or if it could be put up throughout the week. A fully functioning Captains Poll would eliminate the often asked "Who would you guys captain out of this lot?" question.

I would say Kosc/Merte. The shine is off Arsenal's defense since they haven't kept clean sheets the first two weeks but they were an elite defense last year, and I see no reason they shouldn't perform with their fixtures. Nasty's good too, but City's medium term fixtures look tough to me, and their are questions about how Pellegrini's tactics will affect them defensively.

Silva leading the captains poll at totalfpl

Still think will go for Walcott though has more motivation facing Tottenham and Wenger talking up an attacking game
While City could ease up once they have scored a couple , and there so many outlets for their goals. Have a feeling Walcott more likely to be involved in theirs

Going Dzeko. He's been central to City's play so far. And honestly I'd go Soldado if I had to pick from the London Derby. I think Tottenham will have more chances on the break. Arsenal could struggle to break Spurs down, though a goal and/or an assist from Walcott wouldn't surprise me.

Is Dzeko and Negredo a counterproductive move? Is it either one or the other, as in one will be subbed for the other, or have they played together on the pitch? Thanks.

Week 1 Aguero was subbed off for Negredo and they played together, I think they also started a game in the preseason together. But I think it's likely to be one or the other, especially as far as starts go.

Perhaps they havent got enough votes to make it clearer as only a few hundred votes have been cast on their site whereas FFS usually over 1000+ voters gives a better correlation. Surely Silva lacks the explosive side for a captain choice - there just playing it safe with him.

i do agree that he is not explosive compared to the other expensive midfielder, and its unlikely he will score a hattrick in a game compared to walcott, santi or michu..by getting silva, the most you can get is a possible assist for every game and he is doing it consistently..any goal he scores is a bonus..

He regularly just scored 1 assist + 1 bonus type returns. Think a lot of people suffer from analysis paralysis here though as he is playing higher up the pitch so should be more explosive now. A great great player.

I actually think we'll be pretty effective away form home this season, when you starve a home team of possesion you tend to win. I'd be surprised if we dont score, my concern is key stone cops defending at the back gifting them a goal or two.

As as saints fan it think we have improved defensively but are still prone to the odd calamity (see the sunderland goal last week). I think its a coin toss that would be influenced by the other players in your team - for example if you have RVP or snoddy the go for the opposite keeper.

His playing well, but he's consdiered by most saints fans as a bit light weight - look how many times he falls over in the box. The feeling is that Ram is a bit of a threat to him, he seems to be first choice for now I think largely due to MoPo liking his work rate, something Ram needs to work on.

I know Ive banged on about this, but it seems JWP is first choice, this may change but the feeling is by most season ticket holders is it wont as he's on set pieces, at 4.5 he is a bargin.

Both will be fairly low scoring I think but these teams have at least a goal in em

Indeed. NLD especially. I think Arsenal will do a number on em. Tottenham have very good players but Arsenal have a very good team. 2-0 wouldn't surprise.
Norwich v Southampton is the other one I'm eagerly anticipating. They both really made waves in the window, a lot of questions still to be answered there.

long term, It will be interesting to see if the new striker Spurs are buying eats into Solado's game time. Bentekkers is a beast and untouchable, so hes a solid option.

The Spurs haven't bought a new striker. Lamela is primarily a right winger although he can play as a striker if need be.

Thanks for the insight. Are spurs trying to compete with Chelsea for the most number of midfielders in a squad.

watch the North London Derby, then decide

right now, probably Soldado out and Bentenke stays

but if Spurs show they are gelling as a team, then maybe not

currently soldado is the favorite to be transferred, not sure if he has done enough to justify the 9.5 price tag..he has been lucky to score 2 penalties in the last 2 games

Morning chaps, best option here? Toure ->

    a) Collins
    b) Coleman
    c) Vidic
    d) Walker
    e) Avoid the 4 point hit and play Chester

Will be doing Dzeko -> Benteke (or possibly Rooney if I do a) above) next week....

    Boruc
    Zaba, Ward, Chester
    Walcott, Silva, Nolan, Mirallas
    Sturridge, Soldado, Dzeko

    Davis, Morrison, Toure, Terry

a-d all look like decent long term picks. Go a to give you flexibilitity.

Nastasic. Best chance for immediate CS's and should be locked on going forward.

Morning mate, afraid not, unless I take back to back hits.

Not convinced by Everton's fixtures from a CS perspective, so swaying towards a) at the moment.

I can't remember a season when I've been less sure of my picks - finding it very difficult this year.

Admittedly normally it's usually false optimism 🙂
