The Community Round Up

The community rallies round to help Mark begin one of the most dramatic comebacks Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has ever seen. Liverpool’s key assets come under the microscope and we also take a look at some potential ‘season keepers’. Meanwhile, there’s the community leagues to catch up on and we find out why a Russian-themed team have plenty to smile about…

Hottest Topics

After spending years giving out Fantasy Football advice the community decided to help Mark out with his ailing team in one of our busiest hot topics this week. Among those to offer advice were Fysh who would like to see him swap Hatem Ben Arfa and Christian Eriksen for an Arsenal and Chelsea midfield pairing. Jafalad highlights that Romelu Lukaku, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Luis Suarez could be the key men to see him climb up the rankings. While Alberto Tomba also gives Mark the ‘Full Jonty’ treatment assessing where it went wrong for his team. Mark also chips in with his current transfer plans and how his hopes are pinned firmly to a strong performance from Manchester City’s assets.

Another to think Suarez is key to FPL performance is Floydy Floyd who believes he is currently the best player in the Premier League. Among those to agree were Chu Young Ping Pong while Gooner of Oz was among those to back Özil for that accolade.

In a similar vein The Parmtree asked which players could be classed as ‘season keepers’. Pundit of Punts backs Artur Boruc, Suarez, John Terry and Ravel Morrison to stay in his team for the whole season, while  Alberto Tomba believes Olivier Giroud will be a season keeper, assuming Arsenal do not sign any more strikers.

Other players being considered this week include the now cut price Glen Johnson. The Liverpool defender looks an outstanding out of position prospect if Liverpool stick with their 3-5-2 formation, but Zepinho remains sceptical. His research found that in the last two years he has returned just two goals and only six assists, a record that compares poorly to the likes of Leighton Baines, Patrice Evra and Terry.

You Must Be Jokin Ere has been taking a stock check of the bonus point allocation so far in FPL. Turns out that after an initial dominance from defenders, the midfielders are at last fighting back and taking a bigger slice of the bonus cake.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First  – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below  two million in the first five game weeks, sees BarboaII hang on to his lead with an overall score of 441 and rank of 207,63. Five teams are in the top 500,000 and of the 23 teams that entered 13 are now in the top one million.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix’s Friends Life competition Daniel, Beric and and Al Pacino are the league leaders.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Larn Dart, Crouch Potato and Binji, who is top of both the All Things Michu and the All Things Kolarov leagues.

The teams to emerge victorious from the pre-tournament friendlies in FFS UEFA’s  Beach Soccer World Cup tournament were Iran, Senegoal, Spain, Paraguay, Netherlands, Spurgentina, Russia and Solomon Islands. As part of Russia’s victory over Ukraine I was contractually obliged to post this hot topic. Listen out for further contractual obligations on this week’s podcast.

Is it worth -4pts to Lukaku -> Aguero ?

Tough fixture, but Kün seems in great form.

    Others are Giroud and Sturridge.

Does anyone know of a decent rotation partner with Janujaz for the next several matches. Morrison seems decent, but I dunno, seems kinda cheap. Brady would be my top choice but rotates horribly with Janujaz. There would be two or three weeks where I would have to play 4 at the back, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Might not be.

The EVE/MUN rotation is alright, so you could go Barkley. And since Januzaj still isn't guaranteed to play every game, Barkley is a good guy to get in from your bench even when Jauzaj doesn't start.

Fair point, although you would be playing Barkley against cpl and STO which aren't that bad fixtures.

Your other alternative it seems would be a Villa or Norwich cheapie perhaps.

Fair point. Maybe the schedule isn't that terrible. LIV, STO, mun, ars looks terrible on paper but none have had great consistent defensive starts. Lukaku could definitely score in a few of these. I will give it a think. Cheers

Very similar to my team (same strikers and your 3 starting defenders).
I'd say your strikers are fine (though I'm biased). The trouble is that you don't have the funds to upgrade anywhere.
So either go for the budget mids that you mentioned, or downgrade Rooney or Mignolet to free up some funds. Neither sounds great.
So I would go for some lateral moves alo g the lines of:
      HBA & Wilson -> Snodgrass & Chico
Any left over funds can be used for Wittingham the week after.

Usually it only means the opposite. But crystal palace is just playing horrible these days.

But tbf my only choice was either Ozil or Ramsey as I don't want to go on without not having an Arsenal player when I get Giroud -> Aguero next week.

Between Ramsey and Ozil, as said all had Ramsey, so Ozil autopicked himself since I'm chasing the pack.

The flavour of the week is Hazard though. So more likely he'll score a 2pt.

aguero has been 'injured' 2 out of the 3 games man city have had champs league in the week .... are u willing to take the risk of bringing him in at home to norwich ( a game where they certainly dont need him and captain him ? Something im wrestling with myself....

Theres a possibility that he'll be rested, yes. But we'll see then.

Aguero is gonna be a long term move for me so I wouldn't mind him being rested once in a while. But would be nice if it wasn't the first game I brought him in.

Spent 5 mins messing around to work out how much the best dead team would be owning FPL. As it's the deadzone I may as well post it!

    Boruc
    Lovren Terry Fonte Baines
    Ramsey Yaya Oscar
    Sturridge(c) Aguero Giroud

    Bacuna (for Aguero GW 6).

Would have 628 points right now; a full 56 points ahead of the FPL leader.

With £16m to spend on GK/DF/MD for bench, and given the fact they haven't been needed yet, McGregor/Coleman/Barkley would have left £2.5m change and done a lot for team value. This team would have: TV 108.1. SV 103.8.

Food for thought (I think!). Apart from TV increasers on my WC I have only had Giroud in my team for the last few GWs, which probably explains my poor rank!

I guess the thing that strikes me is that almost all those names were floating around pre-season but most on here are underperforming. Perhaps we are too clever by half?!

            * Goes back to thinking that one again.

Came down to Barkley vs. Turner. Like Barkley for the season. Think Martinez hinted he needs a pause to refresh this week. Iffy. Also, to be honest, I have a wee bit in Turner for the attacking returns as Cardiff having been giving up the attempts http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/4254/

Ramsey. He's like a bad marriage. Can't bench him. Can't sell him. Can't do anything fun with him at all. Owned since 5.6. Was *so* *bloody* *close* to selling him for Hazard last weekend, and then *he* happened, again.

Logic has been that Arsenal have a tough run of fixtures and that some headline players (Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey, Cazorla, Wilshere, etc) might be rested against Crystal Palace. Thus, one could suppose Gnabry would be getting a start.

However, if Gnabry is expected to play a few days later in the C1C, then clearly, he'll be rested against Crystal Palace, and we'll get the usual headline players 😉

Not a fan of Januzaj as apparently David Moyes has just seen Shinji Kagawa for the first time (see Shifty's post top of next page). Seriously not sure if Januzaj starts, subs, or goes unused.

JT is a no-go unless he scores. ManC will score at least 1. Odds too long for that bet in my opinion.

Chico's got Fulham which should be nice. Williams & Davies both out is a bit concerning as Berbatov has achieved lift off and Bent & Kasami seem hungry enough.

Like Hazard's odds for the next 2 or 3 games as he completes a streaky run of scoring. Apparently my concerns about his wiggly ankle were overdone or the pain medication is fantastic.

Coleman. Don't think Villa will blank twice in a row at home, so like JT, clean sheet is out and you're hoping for scoring returns. Like his odds of scoring against Villa slightly better than JT's against ManC.

Rating all in order for this weekend:
        Hazard
        Chico
        Coleman
        JT
Januzaj (go on kid, prove me wrong)

      kind of yeah

William and Davies both out hurts Swansea a bit at the back. Their run of good games goes until week 17, so should come good in the end.

ManC defense seems too subject to rotation at the moment to muck about with.

Since you've waited this long, I'd wait to see who plays for Spurs in Europa. If Eriksen starts the Europa game, I'd consider making the transfer heavily. If he doesn't, I might hold as Spurs are at home and in the last time slot of the weekend.

There's been virtually no players that start in Europa for Spurs who then play on the weekend, with Walker the notable exception that I recall, and Defoe the once before the international break.
