The Community Round Up

The community rallies round to help Mark begin one of the most dramatic comebacks Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has ever seen. Liverpool’s key assets come under the microscope and we also take a look at some potential ‘season keepers’. Meanwhile, there’s the community leagues to catch up on and we find out why a Russian-themed team have plenty to smile about…

Hottest Topics

After spending years giving out Fantasy Football advice the community decided to help Mark out with his ailing team in one of our busiest hot topics this week. Among those to offer advice were Fysh who would like to see him swap Hatem Ben Arfa and Christian Eriksen for an Arsenal and Chelsea midfield pairing. Jafalad highlights that Romelu Lukaku, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Luis Suarez could be the key men to see him climb up the rankings. While Alberto Tomba also gives Mark the ‘Full Jonty’ treatment assessing where it went wrong for his team. Mark also chips in with his current transfer plans and how his hopes are pinned firmly to a strong performance from Manchester City’s assets.

Another to think Suarez is key to FPL performance is Floydy Floyd who believes he is currently the best player in the Premier League. Among those to agree were Chu Young Ping Pong while Gooner of Oz was among those to back Özil for that accolade.

In a similar vein The Parmtree asked which players could be classed as ‘season keepers’. Pundit of Punts backs Artur Boruc, Suarez, John Terry and Ravel Morrison to stay in his team for the whole season, while  Alberto Tomba believes Olivier Giroud will be a season keeper, assuming Arsenal do not sign any more strikers.

Other players being considered this week include the now cut price Glen Johnson. The Liverpool defender looks an outstanding out of position prospect if Liverpool stick with their 3-5-2 formation, but Zepinho remains sceptical. His research found that in the last two years he has returned just two goals and only six assists, a record that compares poorly to the likes of Leighton Baines, Patrice Evra and Terry.

You Must Be Jokin Ere has been taking a stock check of the bonus point allocation so far in FPL. Turns out that after an initial dominance from defenders, the midfielders are at last fighting back and taking a bigger slice of the bonus cake.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First  – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below  two million in the first five game weeks, sees BarboaII hang on to his lead with an overall score of 441 and rank of 207,63. Five teams are in the top 500,000 and of the 23 teams that entered 13 are now in the top one million.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix’s Friends Life competition Daniel, Beric and and Al Pacino are the league leaders.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Larn Dart, Crouch Potato and Binji, who is top of both the All Things Michu and the All Things Kolarov leagues.

The teams to emerge victorious from the pre-tournament friendlies in FFS UEFA’s  Beach Soccer World Cup tournament were Iran, Senegoal, Spain, Paraguay, Netherlands, Spurgentina, Russia and Solomon Islands. As part of Russia’s victory over Ukraine I was contractually obliged to post this hot topic. Listen out for further contractual obligations on this week’s podcast.

"His effort when we didn't have the ball was fantastic. With Shinji, everybody tells me about his ability and what he has got, but tonight is the first time I’ve really seen Shinji" - david moyes

I may be proven wrong here. I don't see how Kagawa is suddenly a better option than Januzaj.

Januzaj has been absolutely brilliant in every game he's played and also backed that up with goals / assists / key passes. Also, done a lot of hard work tracking back. He may be just 18 but that doesn't mean he can't keep Kagawa out. Adnan's done everything Moyes could expect from him.

Of course, when you consider Kagawa's record in Dortmund, it does warrant him game time but he just isn't the same player on the wing as he is in a central role.

Unless Moyes plays a diamond, I can't see Kagawa starting vs Stoke.

I do not think Moyes will risk a young player like Janujaz against Stoke. They are a tough, physical side who could just look to leave a couple of challenges on Janujaz and not sure Moyes will want an 18 year old to go through that. Kagawa isn't the most robust player but he has the experience and will know how to avoid such challenges. Much more likely to see Janujaz against Fulham or Arsenal

It's no longer the traditional SAF led United where they can afford to rest key players.

they're struggling to win home games in the PL and will want to play their best XI. Januzaj features in the best XI imo and has already shown he's capable of handling tough challenges to some extent (as against Sunderland).

If RVP isn't fit Kagawa might start as a #10 with Rooney as the main striker. Otherwise I agree, I think Kagawa will need to show consistency in midweek games/sub appearances for him to be considered a starter in the league.

    +1 FT - $3.7

    Boruc (Mignolet)

Walker, Fonte, Ivan (Whittaker, Jose E)

    Brady, Ozil, Barkley, Januzaj (Lampard)

    Lukaku, Giroud, Sturridge

I need of some desperate help! Ozil & Giroud unlikely of 90. Januzaj possibly rotated out & Jose flagged with knee injury

cripes, no one responding? having only read the match commentary on here while at the dentist:
Rooney looked very good (Valar Morghulis (Keith) was very excited).
Kagawa was decent (see Shifty comment at top of page).
Evans looked like he should be starting more often.

Looked good tbh.. Just could not kill the game off. Evans and their defense looked good though they dint close sociedad down around the box leading to two shots off the post. Apart from that they attacked well and Rooney had one of the best games i've seen from him(played his way into my captaincy). Kagawa looked good and surprisingly Giggs was their best mid. Cant believe he's nearing 40. Ashley young looked a headless chicken when he came on again

If Ramsey rises to 7 this week, having owned him since 5.6, I can sell him for 6.3.

6.3 will get me Lallana, Holtby or Moses.

If I hypothetically got the full 7 out of him, for 7 or less I could get Paulinho, Giacherinni, Sessengon, Arteta or Pienaar.

Can't wait to transfer him out.

There are few decent options now available

Benteke could be back as FPL prospect next week.
Augero for SUN game in GW 10
SWA defender next week for game against Cardiff. Mostly Rangel

My team for GW 9 :

    Boruc
    Ivan, Mert, Coleman
    Lalana, Oscar, Ramsey, R Morrison
    Rooney, Suarez, Lukaku
    subs: Brady, Reither, Zab,

Thinking to do Lukaku for Benteke for GW 10 plus Zab to Rangel for Cardiff game
Rooney to Augero for GW 11 for SUN game

Bring back Rooney after Intl break for game against Cardiff in GW 12.

If any of those transfers get in form it might be kept on hold.

Am I thinking way ahead in my transfers or do they sound good.

      - thinking too far ahead

      - assuming you won't have injuries and other priorities (i.e. transferring Rooney out for a few weeks to bring him back is wasteful)

      - Sheik Smith has pointed out:

      2012 - 2013 Season:
      Benteke - 2818 mins - 19 goals - 4 assist - 166pts
      Lukaku - 2005 mins - 17 goals - 7 assists - 159pts

      - otherwise everything looks and sounds good

Will probably lose Giroud, Arsenals next three don't look great, will lose less on transfer value if it's Lukaku, surely as soon as Podolski is fit, Giroud will be rested?

Am having Nastasic, Terry, Wilson, Shaw and Coleman in defence. I was thinking about bringing in Chico instead of either Coleman or Nastasic. Is it a good option? Please tell your opinion.

Ok. What are the chances that Taylor will play for Swansea now that Davies is ruled out for 3-4 weeks? Is it worth a punt or should I stick with Chico?

I was gonna say that we have very similar teams, but those are the only similarities we have...

Ideally I like Ozil, in this game, but possibly a new manager, and he doesn't seem to do quite as well away from home...

Shall I use my FT this week?
Who should be in the goal? Mignolet not returning clean sheets...
How about Toure > Ozil / Michu? Or shall I bring down my defense? Next week, my defenders are playing against each other (EVE vs TOT, ARS vs LIV)

    Mignolet/Boruc
    Coleman, Walker, Mertesacker
    Eriksen, Barkley, Arnautovic, Yaya Touré
    Lukaku, Suárez, Giroud
    (Januzaj, Zabaleta, Ivanovic)

Yeah I think it could be a good move. Southampton have a great chance of a cs & could score a couple as well. Lallana is like the energizer bunny on tv. He never stops running & is into everything.

Hi guys, I'm considering Barkley --> Lallana.
He's looking great last couple of fixtures (scores or assists practically every goal of the saints)
And Everton has some difficult fixtures coming up so 3 players would be overkill...

    My team:
    Boruc (Mignolet)
    Baines, Jones, Fonte, Walker, Ivanovic
    Ozil, Ramsey, Barkley, Januzaj (Parker)
    Lukaku, Sturridge, Suarez

1 FT and 0.9 in bank

    Oscar,Michu,Silva,Ramsey

Don't confuse Palace's defence with Southampton's though. There's a huge difference in class there.

Palace defence would be poor even by Championship standards. Fulham also made to look way better than they are by an awful Palace team.
