FFS Cup

FFS Paddy Power Cup – A Reminder

As the hours tick down until the Gameweek 11 deadline, we’re rolling out a final heads-up on the eighth Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power. Free-to-enter, the qualifying round is set to take place this weekend, so if you fancy your chances of joining previous winners donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster, Mch and reigning champion Wild Rover in our hall of fame, read on for more details:

Seasoned veterans can click here to submit their entry, though if you’re new to the process, here’s a little more information:

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress.

When does it start?

The qualifying round will take place in Gameweek 11 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before 11.59pm on Monday November 11 will be entered into the qualifying round. In this first cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1017 (plus 7 previous winners who will earn a bye if entered) with the top scores in Gameweek 11 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 12. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

How do I enter?

Simply fill out the entry form here. You will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry. You can also check that you are entered via this list.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published on Tuesday November 12

What is the Gameweek Schedule

Each round of the Paddy Power Cup will be played out over the following schedule:

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 11
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 12
  • Round 2 – 512 teams – Gameweek 13
  • Gameweek 14 – Break
  • Round 3 – 256 teams – Gameweek 15
  • Round 4 – 128 teams – Gameweek 16
  • Round 5 – 64 teams – Gameweek 17
  • Gameweek 18 – Break
  • Round 6 – 32 teams – Gameweek 19
  • Gameweek 20 – Break
  • Round 7 – 16 teams – Gameweek 21
  • Quarter-Final – 8 teams – Gameweek 22
  • Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 23
  • Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 24

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the top scoring manager from each round will win a £25 free bet from Paddy Power on supply of their Paddy Power username.

Cup Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 or over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. You can, of course, enter without being over 18 and without a Paddy Power account but will not be eligible for the free bet prizes.

Do I have to enter if I’m a previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record your entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFS username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from the tournament.

Not for me. I hate putting too many eggs in the same basket. Of course, if they are all scoring then it could work out. But I would not go more than 2 attackers from any one team.

so, a review of who the "elite" brought in for their Michu & Silva related disasters this week

Mark - was on Hazard last I saw
Granville - was on Schurrle last I saw
    Tinkerman - Ramsey
    Evs - Nasri
    Forca - Coutinho
    Aquafresca - Coutinho
    MJ - Januzaj
    Isacki - Coutinho

    who else?

which Turner? you should have MTurner as Norwich actually have good fixtures coming

i might take a punt on Mirallas for the Crystal Palace game and you can turn him into Walcott in another week or two when he's back

could also double up on Hazard & Oscar

not sure about your defense; you should really look at players who get the most BPS for your defense (BPS are the points that get added up to determine who gets bonus at the end of each game)

See I thought this would be an easy case of saying "Suarez and you're done". Hmmm.

Think the goalscoring pie will be bigger at home to Fulham, but Sturridge is getting a significantly smaller slice of the pie (33.3% involvement in last 4 matches) than Suarez (55.6%). Aguero is on 57.1% but I expect the pie to be smaller away to Sunderland. I'd rate Sturridge as about equal to Aguero.

Lukaku is on a good 40% involvement (50% for all matches he's played in fact) and he has a great looking fixture. I think he edges it.

Yeah. It's bloody close though of course, the main unknown that worries me is Crystal Palace's defence being merely bad as opposed to pure shyte under their new manager.

As you say the coin toss comes in handy here. When you really can't decide there's no point blaming yourself for an indistinguishable decision, you might as well take it out of your hands.

Think it's difficult to change your tactics to neutralize Ramsey specifically so he could be a threat for some time. When a player is that deep, you can't really target him if you're passively defending (as opposed to pressing up the pitch, which Dortmund used to great effect against Ramsey forcing him into an error leading to a goal). If you sit in two lines of four, you can try to cover with zonal marking. You can try double marking Ozil. But you can hardly take a player in your front line of four out to man mark Ramsey, all the way behind Cazorla/Ozil/Rosicky/Giroud. The only alternative is to get one of your strikers to man mark him religiously, something which may be more expensive for you than Ramsey.

Think the same applies to Yaya, Lampard, Paulinho and other attacking central midfielders. Too deep to mark.

Has Giroud been trash-talking people's mothers or something? He's had attacking returns in 7/10 games so far this season, 5 goals, 4 assists and 9 bonus points, he's pretty much nailed on and has 3 home games in the next 4 and yet he's dropping like a lead balloon.

I know the likely reason is a combination of people wanting Suarez and Aguero, Arsenal cover elsewhere, that he has mun this week and that he's not 'explosive', but it still seems bizarre that there's such a fire sale for a player who has been pretty consistent and isn't injured!

peaked at 40%, that's a lot of ownership to maintain

he'll be cheap again is the good news

Podolski and Walcott almost back may give him an occasional rest

he got stuck in the middle - Aguero & Suarez & Rooney are the premiums people are chasing; while Lukaku, Benteke (just back) & Remy are the cheap stirkers people are chasing

once he started dropping, those who bought early evacuated to preserve team value gains (that's what I did)

also, those with triple Arsenal coverage are exiting Giroud to make space for Walcott

      perfect storm

Walcott seems a very expensive bench option. This has led you to having 3 punty forwards all perfectly good options though. Would prefer a Suarez or Aguero amongst them. Out of those options I would captain Benteke

Worth a FT to go Davis to Harper or should I just go a week without a GK?

Maybe Snodgrass? Norwich have been awful and West Ham are solid at the back. I feel a bit guilty saying this since he did so well for me last season.
