The Suspension Tightrope – Galling

A couple of Frenchman are set for a short stint on the sidelines after falling foul of the referee’s wrath over the weekend’s fixtures. Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign, meaning both are set to serve a one-match suspension in Gameweek 12:

Debuchy’s caution in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane will force him out of the upcoming home game against Norwich as Alan Pardew’s side go in search of a third successive clean sheet. The right-back’s absence is a real blow to the Tyneside team – he has played every minute of the season so far, though the versatile Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could deputise, allowing fit-again Fabricio Coloccini the chance to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in the heart of the backline.

Flamini has certainly show a flair for racking up the cards since returning to the Emirates this summer. The holding midfielder has received five cautions in just 511 minutes’ game time – his absence for the upcoming visit of Southampton should see Aaron Ramsey shift back into the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta, after the Welshman was moved to the right flank once again away to United yesterday.

The Suspension Tightrope welcomed a number of new faces in the Gameweek gone by. West Brom duo Jonas Olsson and Claudio Yacob, Hull’s defensive rock Curtis Davies, Fulham’s Scott Parker, Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic and Norwich’s Michael Turner all climbed aboard on Saturday. Sunday’s matches saw Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson, City’s Javi Garcia, United utility man Phil Jones, Stoke centre-half Robert Huth, Swansea pair Chico and Angel Rangel and Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko also earn their fourth bookings of the season.

Only four clubs – Liverpool, Cardiff, Palace and Southampton – are not represented in the updated widget on your sidebar, which now heaves under the weight of 23 players.

In terms of ongoing suspensions, Sunderland pair Andreas Dossena and Lee Cattermole will sit out the second of a three-match ban in the upcoming round of matches– both will be available for the Gameweek 14 visit of Chelsea. Swansea stopper Michel Vorm makes a return after serving a one-match ban in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Stoke.

      I emailed Smarty Pants last night, asking for advice about the viability of trying to gleam the key data from transfers made (all players in the 100k as an example)... I haven't heard back from him yet, but I'm hoping he can create some sort of user script that could be used to visually express the information in a efficient way, perhaps revealing more insight into true value of a FT, given the larger sample size at his disposal...

Newcastle. What are you people thinking? Why would anyone bring in their players?

Not sure what people don't get about a team that loses to Hull and Sunderland but beats Chelsea and Spurs. They almost never perform how you expect them to and you'll bench their players when they score, and play them when they don't. Clear as can be.

  They've finally resolved a problem they've had for two years, which carrying one striker who brings nothing to the team. First it was Ba with Cisse. For ego reasons they couldn't drop either even though there was only space for one of them, so they shunted Ba onto the left wing where he struggled. Then once Ba left, Cisse went crap and they kept playing him even though he was barely a threat and offered nothing else to the team. Finally they've dropped Cisse for Remy who is a great finisher and offers much more to the team. Dropping Ben Arfa also is better for the team all round.

  He did pick up an injury in training earlier in the season so it's been a combination of injury and competition. Would expect that to continue, Clarke has rebuilt the team superbly.

    Sess, Amalfitano and Brunt look like good options with WBA's fixtures and form. Sess is a bit too expensive for some so it's between the other two otherwise. I went Amalfitano myself, mainly convinced by what he did to United and Arsenal.

  Seems good to me. Having Coutinho seems redundant IMO as you have Suarez but its hard to really find any alternatives and I'm guessing you've just brought him in too. Maybe look to bring in a CHELSEA def? They're bound to turn around soon defensively and have the fixtures to do it. Having your back line would leave me with benching problems each week.

I feel sorry for my little brother...

2 weeks ago he bought Bacuna... I told him it was a wasted transfer and that there were better options around for 5-5.5m...

Anyway, last week he played him regardless away to WHM, and he got 2pts...

But here's the sad part (I laughed), he benched him for the home game v Cardiff this week and played Whittingham instead...

  There's gonna be an upturn in form for certain teams I reckon.
  Newcastle City United will start scoring the goals. West Brom won't be too far behind.
  Chelsea and Arsenal will tighten up at the back.

Just thinking crazy here. Cabaye has been a loyal soldier for me almost single handedly saving my midfield multiple times. Should I trust him with the armband against Norwich? Or should I just give it to the usual suspects Suarez or Aguero?

    Lucky.. Struggling to find time for gaming too. Bought Metro LAst light off the psn store a few weeks back and enjoying the hell out of it. Gonna get over soon and i just know i'm gonna cave in and buy AC 4 just to play half hour of it a day 🙂

This has been my team roughly for the past 3 weeks. I've received 3 green arrows. You would not have believed that if I didn't tell you just by looking at my players.

At one point I had 10.0 ish in the bank without any idea on transfers as many players with big price tags weren't performing. The only down side I can think of is not having Suarez. Almost everyone in my ML has him and has captained him but yet I still managed to climb back to the top because I'm the only one with RVP.

    I'm not sure of the poster but I remember before the season started a poster was saying he'd nail the place down as Hammers wouldn't spend so much on a keeper. Need to downgrade him to another cheaper non playing keeper though, I never rotate them.
    
    Adrian has been in my team from the start too. Quite a few have I think. Including Boruc, Coleman, Toure, Morrison, RVP and Sturridge.

  Can set up a draft league that starts GW12. Can set it up for a "slow draft" so that people can come and go as they please (will receive an e-mail when it's their turn to draft).
  
  Thinking 20 teams, what they can all in American Fantasy Football circles, "a man's league."
  
  Would have unlimited access to free agents, and trades throughout season would be an option.
  
  Question one is, how many players per side? Currently in a league with 10 per side and we play 7. I think that's probably enough. (No players come off bench, if your starter doesn't start, you get a zero.)
  
  Question two is, how fast can we get 20 people signed up and what date should I set the draft to start on? (in 48 hour or so?)

    My thoughts:
    
    - Reason why i thought 10 teams was that it would help keep things simple and exactly like FPL (15 players) - scoring and formations. So in essence, only the selection of players would be different.
    
    - Trades could be fun (over the intl breaks?)
    
    - Do consider 2-3 or more people per team as it will help to maintain some kind of interest in the league if there's team involvement.
    
    - interested people should be easy to find over the break - a day or two. Keep the timing of the draft flexible perhaps (with max time limit of 5 hrs between each pick)? Maybe we can use the BSWC thread since no one is using it over the break?

      my thoughts on 20 teams was basically having two mangers for a team is complicated, especially for team selection... but i can be swayed otherwise, or leave it an option
      
      in my 10 team draft league i currently am in, there's too many free agents... too easy... draft league is more fun when you're forced to scour free agents for obscure players you hope will come good, and forced to make trade offers to improve or mess up your squad
      
      changed it to 11 players per side for 20 teams so far, with 7 playing each week... that's 220 players, which is a lot when you consider each can only be owned by 1
      
      if i pushed out to 15 side clubs, i'd have to lower the number of teams
      
      7 players per side is enough to allow variance of formations with only requirements being 2 defenders and one goal keeper
      
      importantly, i was thinking of naming the league "Knocks & Niggles" and requiring all team names to be the name of an injury

      most time consuming part is the draft
      
      you can't muck about with your team much in a draft league like in FPL, there just aren't the possibilities

So this hernia problem with Brady.. getting kinda sick of it. How long does it normally take to recover from it? Hopin he's back and raring to go after the break but i got to admit i'm thinking of replacements
