Scout Mission – Gameweek 13

We take our regular look at the upcoming set of fixtures this afternoon, earmarking the scenarios and line-ups on our radar for Gameweek 13:

Moyes’ Use of Van Persie
The Dutchman’s owners suffered last weekend after David Moyes failed to announce he was unavailable for the trip to Cardiff. Wayne Rooney took the chance to rack up his third double-figure haul in the last four Gameweeks in the 2-2 draw and continues to thrive under his former Everton mentor, with four assists in Europe last night. However, with a goal in each of his last four league appearances, there’s no doubt van Persie was getting into his stride before last weekend. Ruled out of the Champions League trip to Leverkusen, question marks hang over his game time for Sunday’s trip to Tottenham – miss that one and his loyal 23% owners will be ready to abandon their faith in him with Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez all proving far more reliable in the premium price bracket.

Benteke’s Performance in a Front Three
The big Belgian has now gone five games without a goal as his form falters since returning from a hip problem. With Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann both climbing off the bench at West Brom to cement their comebacks from injury, however, a return to 4-3-3 looks on the cards at home to Sunderland this weekend. Benteke’s prospects will surely be raised by those additions and, with Fulham, Stoke and Palace in the next six, he could hardly wish for a kinder run of games as he looks to return to form.

Wenger’s Midfield Selection
Despite racking up 12 points from five Champions League group games, Arsenal still find themselves with work to do to ensure qualification. After Tuesday’s win over Marseille, the Gunners boss admitted rotation could be on the cards over the next three league games (car, HUL, EVE) as he looks to protect his main men ahead of a vital trip to Napoli. Given that the defence and lone forward seem nailed-on, Wenger may choose to utilise the strength in depth available in the five midfield berths – a rest for either Aaron Ramsey (with 59% ownership) or Mesut Ozil (30%) would have a knock-on effect on Fantasy teams and test the strength of many a bench. Wenger’s cautious approach with Theo Walcott, which has seen the winger make brief appearances off the bench in the last couple of matches, may dissuade many from investing until the wideman establishes himself as a regular once again.

Mourinho’s Rotation
The Blues boss was also quick to hint at rotation after the midweek loss in Europe at Basel. Mourinho’s decision to make just one change from the side that won at West Ham backfired in Switzerland as his tired team tumbled to a surprise defeat. With ten games in all competitions between December 1 and January 1, Chelsea’s schedule looks set to see many fringe players involved over the next month – a favourable run of league fixtures has seen many eye up Eden Hazard and Oscar, but with their manager hinting the attacking midfielders are likely to be hit hardest by his tinkering, would-be investors may be somewhat deterred if Jose stands by his threat.

Everton’s Defence Without Baines
The only side to name the same back four and keeper in all 12 Gameweeks, Everton’s defence is set for a change in light of Leighton Baines’ toe injury. The left-back could be out for up to six weeks with the problem and, with Roberto Martinez admitting he is looking at several alternatives, uncertainty remains ahead of their home game against Stoke this weekend. Martinez even has the option of shifting to 3-4-3 with Antolin Alcaraz now fit and, with the fixtures failing kindly from Gameweek 16 onwards, his team sheet will be keenly awaited by Fantasy managers for the Potters clash.

Pulis’ Impact on Palace
Having racked up two consecutive clean sheets under caretaker boss Keith Millen, the Eagles roll up to Carrow Road with Tony Pulis at the helm. The former Stoke boss will be desperate for more of the same resilience as he looks to build upon a solid base and guide his new team to safety – Palace have three regulars (Dean Moxey, Danny Gabbidon and Joel Ward) priced at just 4.0 in FPL and an outstanding run of home games for Pulis to establish Selhurst Park as his latest fortress.

Tottenham’s Recovery from Etihad Mauling
After losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle, Andre Villas-Boas made six changes to his side prior to last week’s visit to City. Undoubtedly, confidence will be severely dented by the 6-0 humiliation as Tottenham’s previously resilient backline was torn apart – will their manager keep faith in his side or can we expect sweeping changes yet again as he searches for the winning formula? Rumours of a move to 4-4-2 are growing as Spurs attempt to address a run of three games without a goal, but with United up next, the weekend looks a real test for the north London outfit – if they can keep out the champions, subsequent trips to Fulham and Sunderland bode well for owners of Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker.

Rodgers’ Treatment of Sturridge
After turning out for 90 minutes in England’s friendly with Germany, Daniel Sturridge was dropped to the bench for last weekend’s Merseyside derby due to fitness concerns. With Philippe Coutinho back in the fold, Brendan Rodgers moved to 4-3-3, allowing Jordan Henderson the role on the right of Luis Suarez. Although Sturridge climbed off the bench to nod a late equaliser, his manager is clearly determined to monitor the leg problem that has been hampering the former Chelsea player for a number of weeks. Another bench role against Hull this weekend and Sturridge owners will be ready to jump ship, with Suarez set to run amok over three home fixtures (NOR, WHM, CAR) in the subsequent four.

The Norwich Midfield
Robert Snodgrass is sidelined for a number of weeks with a knee injury and Anthony Pilkington is also unavailable after limping out of last week’s loss at Newcastle with a hamstring problem. While the fixtures may fall in the Canaries’ favour, Chris Hughton has real selection issues ahead. One possibility is a role on the right for Nathan Redmond (4.6), which would allow Martin Olsson to take up a position on the opposite flank – the Swede, at 4.2 and classified as a defender – would arrive on our radars if his manager opts for such a tactical set-up ahead of games against Palace, Sunderland and Fulham in the next six.

    captain aguero or Suarez?
Aguero is popular, but he may play only 60 min. (injury concerns)
    so considering Suarez.
And he has done really well against week teams.
    Thought?

If Aguero had an injury concern he wouldn't play at all. Aguero at home is class and not bad away.

Hull are shite even at home but have a stubborn defence.

      Aguero.

City have been rampant at home all season & Aguero has a hand in most things. Right now if you have both it has to be Kun. After all it will be luis turn next week against Norwich

    Damn new page so repost

    Please

My team. I plan to save it. Am I good or there is something obvious I need to change?

    Mig
    Lovren Terry Coleman
    Ozil Ramsey Sess Whitss
    Lukaku Kun (c) Suarez (vc)
bench: Januzaj, Clyne, Hangeland - basically no one, only Clyne, that is my worry
bank 2.1m - if I save it those money will probably go to Rooney next week.

If I make a transfer this week will probably be for a defender or Januzaj out
    thanks

Why no one sees that I have Hangeland. No way to ship SoT defenders when I can ship Hangeland. SoT defenders could be shipped later.

So both of you think that I shouldn't save the transfer but make one?

You've got 2 Saints defenders and 1 Fulham - spread the risk. 2 Saints defs over this Christmas period will not be very fruitful, imo.

"So both of you think that I shouldn't save the transfer but make one?"

Definitely. You've players that have a higher priority to ship out, imo (Januzaj, Saints defs, Hangeland, Whitt) than doing a luxury Lukaku -> Rooney move.

What are the theories for Arsenal's line-up over the next three league games? They have the following fixtures:

    30th Nov. vs. car
    *4 days*
    4th Dec. vs. HUL
    *4 days*
    8th Dec. vs. EVE
    *3 days*
11th Dec. CL vs. Naopli in Italy
    *3 days*
    14th Dec. vs. mcy

It's hard to say as the fixtures are managable up until the CL game. If Wenger was to play a weakened team vs. Napoli, there's arguably no need for rotation in the league. With all his midfielders fit again though, it may be a case of horses for courses. I have no idea how he will pick his team though.

        Which changes though?

Monreal might got a game or two over that run and and Vermaelen and Jenk might get one.

The midfield will be where the changes are I think, as the article suggests. Will Ramsey be rotated though as he has previously been?

Timing. Last night I took a look at Arsenal's midfield for every GW so far and totted up appearances for each player http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/6092735

Ramsey has played 11/12, Ozil has played 9/9 since he arrived, Wilshere 8/12 but is always in and out of injury anyway. I'd think they are the prime targets to be rotated. Most likely replacements for them would be Flamini, Rosicky and Walcott.

So with Walcott back I think it will be

      Cazorla/Wilshere Ozil/Rosicky Walcott/Ramsey
2 of Ramsey/Arteta/Wilshere/Flamini in that order of preference.

With people dropping out in order of tiredness and first choice team wheeled out for Everton, Napoli and City.

      Just my opinion.

      Definitely not worth a hit.

Ozil will play, Walcott will more than likely be sub.

So, assuming Walcott returns 1pt, Aguero will have to score the same as Ozil and Rooney combined (-1) just to break even.

So I presented the facts about Giroud, compared to Rooney & I get 2 people dismissing him because he is "French" & a "donkey"...

So racism is tolerated on this site then.

And people need to bond together while getting the same player, to be accepted in the cool group, and choose to dismiss the facts.

There is no cool group here. It's a bunch of guys trying to win at an infuriatingly random game where stats blind us to probability.

If we were cool we'd be playing professional football/owning clubs and laughing at people like us.

I've been saying we (United) should switch to 4-2-3-1 for weeks on end now. We finally do (but only because of an RVP injury) and get our biggest CL away win ever! Seriously though we need to somehow convince Rooney to be happy playing as a CAM/CF with Kagawa/Nani and Januzaj/Valencia flanking him.

My dream signing in January would be to get Di Maria to play him at RAM in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Rooney CAM and Kagawa LAM.

We've played like that loads of times before. Kagawa is just not as good on the left and it's impossible to drop RVP.

You don't need to drop RVP, you just have to accept that Kagawa can only fit in our team on the "flank" because Rooney will always take the middle spot in any viable formation for the team.

Kagawa at LAM is better than Young and (on most days) Nani. Or you could play Januzaj at LAM and Kagawa at RAM! Surely he'd do better on the right then Valencia does on the wing in a 4-4-2?

            You're welcome.

It's 2 defensive mids helping the back 4 rather than one. One def mid going to break play, the other holding anticipating the pass or closing the remaining space to prevent an attack. That!s a poor description cos I don't fully understand the ins and outs.

    Rooney, Suarez, Benteke

No no no no Beavis! If you're going to get a big mid until Christmas it MUST be Silva imo mate! City Manager said he should be back next week (not this weekend unfortunately). His stats this season have been phenomenal in terms of how consistently strong they are.

I think you should go for Silva + Gerrard/Walcott/Oscar.

Yeah the fixtures are certainly VERY tasty!

I have SAS and dropped Sakho, problem was that if I got another Liv defender I wouldn't be able to get my fave lad of the moment - Coutinho. But in the end I thought the fixtures were too good defensively (WHM have no striker!) so I went for Johnson.

Gerrard is pretty solid, but I'm wondering if Walcott will come back slamming in the goals since Arsenal are so epic right now!

Seen a bit of interest and debate around Crystal Palace defenders recently (who'd have thought it eh?)

Anyway, thought I'd share some research I did a little while ago which helped me make up my mind - not saying this is the be all and end all of things but I thought it was interesting.

    Player--------- -Gabbidon- ---Ward--- ---Moxey--- ---Delaney---
    Matches------ -----261----- -----166----- -----197----- ------389-----
    Goals----------- ------6------ --------7------ -------8------ --------11------
    Own Goals--- -------1------ -------0------ --------0------- --------4------
    Assists-------- -------1------ -------6------ -------13------ -------19------
    Red Cards---- -------0------ -------1------ --------4------ --------3------
    Yellow Cards- -----20------ -------8------ ------32------ -------64------

Basically, it swayed me towards Ward.

I ruled out Moxey and Delaney on the grounds they seem to be card magnets and lets face it, a red or yellow card is far more likely to strike than a goal or assist.

I then went for Ward over Gabbidon on the strength of goals, assists and disciplinary record.

    Only my choices though.

Well they have managed back-to-back clean sheets while WHM have conceded 6 goals. Of course West Ham did vs Chelsea but that was at home and they conceded 3 vs bloody Norwich!

Interesting, I was just looking at the comparison tool/BPS scores more so than any other stats.

Gabbidon is not 100% nailed on IMO.

My 2 would be out of Ward and Moxey and I'm leaning towards Moxey.

As I say - it's the card factor that swayed me away from Moxey - averages about 7 yellows and a red a season judging from these stats. Only his assist threat which is better than Ward and I can't see Palace banging in many goals so it's probably the difference between 1 assist and 0 which you'd inevitably have benched him for!

Incredible that Per has maintained having a higher NTI than Aguero all week

I would love to get Kun but am not changing my Rooney/Suarez/Remy front 3 this week so can understand why people are getting Mert in

I ditched Rooney for Aguero this week, I know it's risky, but if he gets another yellow, he'll be on a one match ban, so I bought Aguero whilst I could afford him.

Kun will outscore Rooney by 4 points easily this week IMO

After that I'm not sure I'd want Aguero over Rooney though

I wouldn't. I think Ozil -> Silva in gw16 is on the cards
