Paddy Power Special – 3/1 on Man City to Beat Arsenal at the Etihad

Once again, Paddy Power have laid on another enhanced market for the weekend’s matches – this time around, our bookmaker friends are dangling odds of 3/1 for Man City to beat Arsenal at the Etihad in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off for those yet to register an account with them.

Bearing in mind that the regular odds of Manuel Pellegrini’s men winning for their eighth match in a row in front of their own fans is 4/5, this looks a standout deal for those yet to sign up with Paddy. If you don’t have an account and fancy a piece of the action, click here to join up and take advantage of the offer.

If you’ve already got an account with Paddy, you can still benefit from the Money Back Special on the Etihad match. Paddy are offering refunds on all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and Scorecast bets should Olivier Giroud score anytime during the game.

To clarify, the City enhanced odds specials are limited to a £10 stake, are open to new Paddy Power customers only and subject to the terms and conditions specified.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Hey guys! been busy all week with finals so haven't been able to even think about my fpl team until now (and i've got a flight to catch home in just under 2 hours!)

just seen that gerrard is out injured. who's my best bet to replace him? walcott? silva? nasri? michu? oscar? schurrle? someone else? my other mids are haz, ramsey, januzaj and ravel

    cheers!

Luk or Suarez both good choices.

Hax also a good choice but Silver Surfer seems to be pushing him quite heavily so don;t just take his word for it...

Out of them, I reckon Silva is worth it as a long-term punt, with some hope of surprise returns against Arsenal.

That said it shows it's not really the week to make the transfer.

I read the whole thing. Do u realise that when lukaku scores 10 points amd fletcher scores 2... everyone with lukaku gains 8 points on you? Dont you think theres maybe a reason why everyone gets lukaku suarez aguero rooney?

Did you know that to do well in epl.. you need points?

Il post here too.. Do u understand that just because Lukaku scored last week it doesnt mean he will score thisweek? and Just because Fletcher didntscore last week it doesnt mean he wont this week? And if Lukaku does score you have a tiny slice of cake (share points) but if fletcher does you get the whole cake to yourself. You must love sharing and I admire your morality but in this game you need to be greedy... not such a dificult argument to follow

Lukaku is a delicious victoria sponge cake, everyone wants a slice, it's premium cake but it tastes nice and delivers regularly.

Fletcher is a cake made of rancid haggis, sure you get the whole thing but that's only because no-one else wants it, it will give you the shits.

How's that for a cake analogy?

Being greedy is great for FPL, but the only thing that matters is goals, and ultimately, the points garnered from those goals...

Ownership shouldn't really matter... by concerning yourself with ownership at this stage you are hindering yourself from what should be your main priority; scoring the the maximum amount of points...

Ok, by selecting the most popular players as the teams above you in the ranking, you are somewhat limiting your ability at getting closer to them and passing them in rank... but in the same token, we have 15 different players to choose from which makes that possible, so why would you try to differentiate in what has proved to be the highest point earning position just for the sake of differentiating?

IMO, differentiating only works in the positions that merit it...

However, Fletcher has a good run of fixtures coming up, hopefully he can bag you a few goals to reward you from venturing from the norm...

And do you realise, that to do well you also need MORE POINTS THAN OTHERS. Not give all your points to everyone else. I'm not saying get shit players that wont get any points. Im saying get players that wil get points but points you keep all to yourself, what is so hard to understand?

I have been unlucky with injuries etc.. but last week for example a brave decision of Paulinho(c) paid off and I'm doing it again despite the ridicule and predict I will be moving up as a result. Here's the two holes in your cake argument Sean4.

"if Lukaku does score you have a tiny slice of cake (share points) but if fletcher does you get the whole cake to yourself. "

            1. You present the two scenarios like they are equally probable. They aren't. Proof: bookie's odds. Proof of these: continued existence of bookies. If you think your odds are better, become a bookmaker and make a killing/go bust. (These two scenarios aren't equally probable, either 😉 ) Until then, it's just your opinion with a tenuous link to reality.

            2. You haven't considered the example of Lukaku AND Fletcher scoring. It is likely that even if you go to all that risk of picking Fletcher (If Fletcher doesn't score and Lukaku does score you lose lots of rank), Lukaku will score anyway and you will have gained nothing. Now toss that coin over 10 GWs and see how you do. (Refer back to point 1).

I'm an all or nothing type of guy. Everyone here seems happy in the security of top 100k. They wont go for much more. Maybe the 'best' will even go for top 10k. But too scared to push further so they play it safe... make sure they dont drop out of 100k, dont take risks. Because they know they will be ridiculed for it if they dont get top 100k. I take a strategy that will either fall flat on its arse or win massivley. My strategy is capable of winning FPL. If it fails i get outside 100k so people lauh, but thats the risk I take to try and finish at the very top.

Has anyone on this site ever won fpl? No one ever will unless we break this 'beat the average' mentality. Take a WIN or nothing MENTALITY.

    What's everyone's wildcard strategy?

I personally am building a team looking no further than gw20. From there I will decide on a weekly basis whether I like my team for the next gameweek. If I am OK with my team, I'll just make a short term transfer and reassess the next week. If not, I'll wildcard with a very longterm view.

Why this strategy? It means I can maximise my short term potential, and there is always the chance of a wildcard if things go pear shaped and I am not happy with my team.

Lukaku for me based on goalscorer odds. I've averaged 19.7 so far using (mostly) that strategy so I'll stick to it. (I do know some people think the odds mean little though, as was illustrated yesterday when I was heavily criticised for relying on them!)

Pepin, I am so pissed that I never got Shurrle in the draft this week...

I tried to claim him, and as the bottom ranked team, should really have gotten him...

But for whatever reason they said my Ba > Shurrle straight swap was invalid, which is utter nonsense... 😡

Going off Sean4's point of view.

Would FPL be better if points for goals were different based on % ownership?

    For a forward

    40%+ = 4
    20 - 40% = 5
    10 - 20% = 6
    0 - 10% = 7

IDK what happened but by the looks of it, it's more of a gamble and it could pay dividends to those who would really risk on lesser owned players.
But if for example Suarez ends a season with 20 goals and 40% ownership he would be given 80 pts and let say Welbeck ends with 10 goals and 10-20% ownership 70pts could be rewarded less the bonuses and everything else in between.
It could spice things up in FPL actually.

Luck factor would increase though so many wouldn't be fans. Captain on a low % ownership player like Walcott could really be a big scorer. Some would sell Suarez looking for an alternative even short term that could beat him etc.

I have an interesting view on differentials. Seems to be popular for the wrong reasons but I hope that as a result of some people laughing at it some people will see it and take it seriously and change the shape of the ethos of this site. Then one day someone on here might actually WIN fpl.

Its the maths of a winning strategy, Like businesses. You get conservative businesses that will always be safe, but a risky business could fall flat but it could also be the BEST. Just read through the argument.

Although I disagree with his selection of players, or even the cake scenario. But I do get what he's trying to say. Basically he just want differentials eh?

Points is points for me. Getting 16 points from Fletcher or Lukaku is in the end the same. It's all about finding the players that will score the most in the weeks you own him.

If you can find a 'different cake' that you will genuinely believe that will outscore (outtaste?) the mainstream cake, then so be it. Just know the risk as someone has pointed out, if Lukaku turns out outscoring the Fletchers or Welbecks then you're screwed.

And if you happen to find the player that you greedily have to yourself and outscore a player that everyone have, then good for you.

Early adopters of Michu last year and Ramsey this year are those people.

Soon it will Redmond which I own. 😉

A bedtime story for you 😉

In case you respond to point 1 by objecting that you are _not_ claiming they are equally probable and that Lukaku is more likely to score, then you have admitted he is the better option. QED.

continued existence of bookies isnt because they put out the realistic odds. They put out odds depending on betting patterns etc so they are guaranteed to make money. I do in fact make quite a lot of money from betting by exploiting this. The bookies still win overall because most the sheep get exploited by the bookies.

You do understand odds are probabilities, right?

No matter how the odds are set, if you overestimate or underestimate the probability you will lose in the long run.

Same as thinking Fletcher is an option.

I play by rank not pure point system. This is the real risk reward way you have a real chance of winning FPL, admitdly it is risky because you can end up with a bad rank. If I have Lukaku and he scores do i go up in rank... no.. at least not much because everyone has him. If Fletcher does and I have him the do I go up in rank.. yes! Its a simple logic!!

lol man you're so confused I'm almost thinking the best lesson would be to let you play your confused strategy and see what rank it takes you to.

                        Anyway, out of sympathy:

If you choose to own Fletcher over Lukaku

                        A) when Lukaku scores and Fletcher doesn't, you lose a lot of rank.

                        B) When Fletcher scores and Lukaku doesn't, you gain rank.

A is much likelier than B.

                        You lose.

                        QED.

                        Night mate 😉

U are actually backing up my own opinion with facts but areso closed minded to thesheep mentality you can't see it! 'MUST HAVE LUKAKU' keep saying that mantra.

I'm a Rooney owner over Lukaku btw, sorry to undermine your argument 😉

Hi guys, got two questions for ya.

    1. Anyone think it's worth doing a 4 point hit to do Giroud to Lukaku? Or just do for free next week?

    2. Captain Aguero or Suarez for this GW? It's doing my head in!

    Comments much appreciated.

Off to a G'day League match tonight so need to confirm everything now.. Playing Burner instead of Shelvey is the only last minute change I'd consider, Shelvey having played 90mins of Europa League against Norwich away.. thoughts? Good to go?

    Szczesny

    Terry Coleman Collins

    Ozil Hazard (c) Shelvey Morrison

    Aguero Suarez Lukaku

Subs: Daniels, B. Turner, Bannan, Baker
