Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Fifth Round details.

Once again, good luck to those still in with a shout.

A move of Sess to Yaya could pay off. The effect of Clarke's departure from the Baggies is still unknown. The norm would be for the new manager to start their tenure with a win

Sess hasn't played all that poorly, he just hasn't finished the opportunities he's had

I think keeping him for a last crack with Hull at home is the best way to go

not for a hit imo. He'll still likely bring 2 and has had decent chances to score so I think there not rush to cut him especially as the likely ones you wont in don't have great fixtures and have ban risks.

    Marshall

    Coleman, Distin, Johnson

    Ozil, Hazard, Barkley, Brunt

    Rooney, Suarez, Negredo
    ----------------------------------------
    Lewis, Ravel, Collins, Cylne

Just a quick check if please. Does the lack of Walcott and Silva seem too risky? I got 2.9 ITB and no FT but willing to take hits

Not really expecting too much but I figured it'll be hard to expect Walcott to have a 6+ point game vs chelsea so its won't be too bad to wait a week on that move. I'd need to do -8 this week to get him in for Brunt or I could wait a week and just trade Ozil

There is no way Chel will keep a CS vs Ars.

Chances must be great that Walcott will get something. An assist and it's 5pts.

That still leaves you -1 on the move. Theres still a non zero chance Walcott faces rotation + the points seems so well distributed its not a Suarez situation when if Arsenal score = Walcott points. I'm not saying its a bad idea just that the risks are high. I'm still in the PP cup so I guess I'm looking for moves that will likely result in immediate gains.

Having some city cover is the only thing keeping me from doing the Silva move asap. He's done well so far but hes not really known as a goal scorer. More of an assist machine so I likely won't lose out too much by waiting a week or 2 for him.

Ramsey because he spent most of his career being inconsistent. Most managers tried him on more than one occasion and he failed to deliver. Seeing him do so well now is therefore annoying.

Yaya because he spends most games in a holding role and his points always feel a bit flukey. Even though he is on pens now, 9.7 does seem a lot for a player that won't spend that often in an attacking role. So I refuse to jump on board and will just watch him annoyingly rack up the points.

Anything worth a hit to improve this lot?

    Panti Gazza
    GJ Distin Fonte Wilson Faye
    Ozil Ramsey Hazard Sess Ravel
    Suarez Rooney Lukaku

    0 FT, 1.0 itb.

If not, i'll be doing Ozil, Sess, Fonte -> Walcott, Silva, 4.5 (-8) next week barring any injury/suspension.

    Thoughts appreciated.

I'm thinking end of gw22 looks like a good time to play wildcard. Everton & city have great fixtures until then, but then in 23 things take a turn for the worse slightly.

With so many options in both teams, it makes sense to overload on them now and then cut down with the wildcard.

    Thoughts?

i don't "see" this so called "turn for the worse" 😕

In GW 23 City face spurs and EVE face livp.

Both teams have CPAL/VILLA/nor/SUN to follow.

city have spurs away and then chelsea the following game. Sure city can beat anyone as they've shown but it is all relative.

Everton have liverpool at anfield and spurs away in gws 23&25

Yes tottenham have had their ar*es handed to them a couple of times lately so it depends if you think that will continue.

I'm aware of that, but at the moment Spurs don't even have a manager.

Eve scored vs ManU/Ars away, so i'm confident they will score vs spurs away. Same with City, as by then Kun might be back.

I think I will be guided by the Baines/Kun return from injury.

You do raise a good point. Basically, everyone in the league is capable of conceding a lot of goals!

I would prefer there was no january wildcard to be honest but gw23 is about the best time I can think to play it

The league Odds & Evens has been up dated! 7 managers have been knocked out, and 15 remain in the competition!

The top six players in the league, after the league has been updated after gameweek 17, will be safe for another week. For managers outside the top six, then you'll have to score an odd numbered overall gameweek score to secure a place for gameweek 18.

I get confused about this every year 😆

The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (1 Feb 11:30).

So GW 24 is the last GW we can activate the Jan WC right?

Wanted to save my WC for the late DGWs but it looks like my hand might be forced this week 🙁

    (Migs)
    Zaba Kosc (Walker)
    Brady (Kim)
    Aguero

    Thinking:

    Migs > Howard/someone cheaper
Zaba & Kosc (and maybe Walker) > Coleman/Distin/Evans/Boyata
    Brady > Wally
    Aguero > Negredo

Thoughts? Should I go for it or just do Aguero, Brady and Zaba > Negredo, Wally and a defender (-8) and hope for the best?

Migs got Cardiff(and lucas back), Walker got a gr8 run after this week and a new manager(could be gold), Kim has harmed you enough value wise.. just keep him as your uber cheap until Jan.. Aguero, Brady and Zaba out looks good.. Play your WC Jan 1st

Migs Walker and Kim obviously aren't urgent. I somehow don't see Spurs being much value CS-wise despite fixtures but who knows.

Obvously Migs is good for this week but I'm looking at the next 5 and if I did WC I would sell.

Just did Aguero > Negredo in an attempt to calm my nerves 🙂 I'll wait and see regarding Kosc and Zaba then probably bring in Distin for Zaba and do Brady Wally -8 and see how I'm looking.

    Speroni (gazza)

    Coleman- 5.6M-Chester (Burner,Chico)

    Walcott-Silva-Ramsey-Hazard (Ireland)

    Rooney-Suarez-Lukaku

I'm seriously considering a 12 pointer for Aguero, Paulinho, Koscielny and Shelvey to Lukaku, Walcott, Silva and Wilson. I've got Clyne and possibly Moxey missing out too, so I need to do at least an 8 pointer to be confident of fielding 11, and then it seems obvious that Silva or Walcott will outscore Shelvey.

    Sanity check?

Those three cheapie's are as good a picks at home as any defenders in the game...and not just because they are cheap either...The big hitting teams are very offensive this year and offer little in terms of clean sheets, and I doubt that will change any time soon.
