Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

An all-London affair at the Emirates brings the curtain down on Gameweek 17 this evening. Plenty of Fantasy favourites are on show as the Gunners look for the win that would extend their lead to four points over the chasing pack:

For the hosts, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are the main protagonists for Fantasy managers, whilst Theo Walcott will be looking to maintain the form that saw him score twice at the Etihad last weekend.

Jose Mourinho’s side roll up on the back of a poor form of form on the road. The Blues have been beaten in three of their last four away games in all competitions but know that a victory will draw them level with the Gunners on 36 points. Eden Hazard will be desperate to have his say before Fantasy managers turn our attentions to the Gameweek 18 fixtures on Boxing Day.

The team news sees the hosts make four changes from the side that lost 6-3 at City last time around. Kieran Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen are drafted in for Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny at the back, with the Frenchman sidelined due to a knee wound. Mikel Arteta partners Aaron Ramsey in the double-pivot, with Mathieu Flamini dropping out, whilst Tomas Rosicky gets the nod on the left, replacing the suspended Jack Wilshere. Lukas Podolski warms the Gunners bench along with the likes of Santi Cazorla.

The Blues make three alterations from the XI that edged past Palace. Gary Cahill replaces David Luiz in defence, whilst John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard are drafted into midfield – Michael Essien drops out through suspension while Juan Mata takes his place on the bench, allowing Ramires to move onto the right of the attacking midfield three. Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Samuel Eto’o are also amongst the subs, with Fernando Torres leading the line again.

Once again, we’ve opened the Dugout Discussion chatroom for those partial to some real-time reaction.

Everytime I think of benching Ramsey, I think of how if he scores any points EVERYONE else will get those.

So, I don't. The risk attached is too high.

Must hurt everytime he scores. I got him at 5.7, so there's wayy too much value attached as well. He's still the bust buy at his price.

Keep calm and Ramsey will do nothing. I know he is bargain at that stage. but, with their fixtures right now, no need to benching him.

So on what side of the needle does Ramsey currently rest. Essential because if he performs you're missing out on points that everyone else is getting or essential simply because he's performing.

I personally think it's the latter and will be curious to see how ownership changes the January WC. Wouldn't mind mulling over a swap for Cabaye in a bid to free up cash.

Yeah another blank and another Cabaye haul will see a massive switch. Especially as Walcott becomes ever more popular. However I'm happy having Both Walcott and Ramsey during their good fixtures.

Essential because his run hasn't been jammy. He's been getting into the box consistently and is the best value at his price. Probably the only two who come close at that range are Lallana and Cabaye but for anyone who bound Ramsey before 6 (maybe even 6.5), he's a keeper.

see for me, I brought him back in for over 7 (I was transfer crazy up until 1-2 months ago) so swapping him for Cabaye means being able to swap Negredo for Rooney with a bit left over..

If it's 7 or over, you can obviously bring him back. He's reached his peak in terms of price, maybe another 0.1 or 0.2 at a stretch.

But, he has good fixtures as well. If fixtures were bad I'd recommend it, but with Cabaye and Lallana's tougher fixtures stick it out for a couple of weeks would be my advice.

New-Ars has been pretty high scoring recently. Ramsey could easily get a goal.

At Wildcard everyone would be considering what to do with him. Until now he's played like a premium mid, and all signs point towards no major regression.

Yes.. the wildcard could throw up a couple more options due to injury returns of Aguero.. and a couple cheap mids may be needed to fit him again.

This is an interesting conversation for me as a chaser with tons of ground to make up -- for my differentials of Walcott and Silva to work I need Ramsey and Yaya owners to feel price bound to holding them if they continue to return points somewhat consistently. Made the decision a month ago to go w the low ownership guys in 2 of the big 3 midfields, and already owning Hazard made it simple.

How many of you own Hazard, Silva AND Walcott?

    Rooney, Lukaku, Suárez

    (Davis, RavMo, Burner, Williams)

    1FT & £1.7 ITB.

    Thinking...

Ahh.. all have been for pretty silly fouls really. A couple of them late in the game.

Shouldn't be too big an issue and he is a points magnet. But it could sway the case for Walcott. Not sure how he would do against Hammers though. They seem to be good defensively but have been ripped apart by good teams at home.

All in all, get Walcott and the price rise.

Wenger doesn't seem to be a fan of subs in general. Even if he makes one in a game it is usually very late.

He said he felt he had enough attackers in the game. I think only a couple changes max to the team that played today, Ozil may be one of them.

Doing my head in trying to decide if I bring in Walcott for Ramsey.

I don't want both of them and I feel that Walcott's involvement (playing quite far forward, on corners etc) might be the differential I need.

Surely Walcott has bigger haul potential therefore makes sense...right?

"so wouldn't I come out on top?" - no one can tell that except a fortune teller. But yes, I think Walcott will score more points. You also must be thinking the same, and that's why we are contemplating this move.

This [Ramsey -> Walcott] is such an issue that its impossible to give a straight answer - yes or no, especially at this time. It comes down to the individual for the decision, whatever you say it - gut feelings, balls, etc....

He came in for Cabaye. He seemed to drift in between the right and behind remy, but most of his dangerous play was cutting in from the right flank.

Not sure if he will start this GW - but Tiote is suspended so he might be drafted in.

Pardew strikes me as someone averse to change - so I think Sissoko will stick to the right (though he seems a really awkward winger) and Shola coming in for Tiote. Not too sure. They could use the extra muscle against Stoke too

But yea Cabaye has been playing well and would be foolish for him to drop deeper.

    Howard (myhill)

    Mert, Coleman, Shaw (Burner, Chester)

    Ozil, Hazard, Ramsey, Whitt (Brady)

    Suarez, Negredo, Lukaku

$5.1 mil in the bank, 19k overall.

Anything that needs immediate addressing? It's nice having some funds in the bank in case I need to make moves, but $5.1 seems wasteful....

Things I'm considering for this week:

    A) Lukaku to Rooney or Adebayor (might then add Mirallas or Barkley in a future week for Everton offensive coverage though Coleman has been handling that...)

    B) Brady to anyone.... Yaya, Silva, Cabaye, Lallana, Barkley, Januzaj, not really sure what direction to go.

    C) Ramsey to Walcott... I got Ramsey at 5.7 originally so I get why it makes sense to keep him, but Walcott is very appealing

    D) Myhill to another goalie that actually plays. Now taht Foster is back need to have a backup just in case something happens to Howard, but most weeks I'm going to play Howard

    E) Shaw to a better defender Probably the biggest hole in my lineup right now is the 3rd defender spot as I'm having to play one of Shaw, Burner, or Chester each week. Not sure how expensive to get though on that 3rd spot. Someone affordable on a defense playing well like Debucy... or go all the way to a Terry, or somewhere in between.... Going to a Terry would mean staying with 2 budget mids but with guys like Barkley and Januzaj playing well that is definitely an option.

    F) Save FT There's nothing out there that seems essential imo... Tough to decide between Yaya/Silva Cabaye/Lallana 3rd defender, etc. so could save for a week and see if anything looks essential next week

    Thanks for any thoughts

As a Chelsea fan, very disappointing. We played a little defensively and on the counter, but had the best chances in the game.

The game as a whole was very tight though. Only 2-3 good chances in total. Lampard hit the post and Willian and Giroud fluffed their lines. That was about it.

I guess we all saw it differently. Very pacey and good spectacle at times. However Arsenal were really struggling against a good Chelsea defence - didn't have 1 proper attempt at goal in the 1st half. Yes, seriously. Outlines again how goof Mourinho is setting up his team playing away to equally strong opposition - were a draw is enough and will win you the title if you win the same fixture at home.

    Morning guys.....
A serious question... Seeing that a lot of people have at least 3-5 of these 5,
    Hazard,Silva,Ramsey,Wally,Cabaye
would it be worth it to play 3-5-2? with Suarez and Rooney upfront? atleast till Aguero returns?

Lukaku has massive ownership and seeing that people are struggling to move forward would it be worth it to take a punt on the formation.?My ML leader is doing just that with Aguero in his bench. He is doing quite well ,infact got 90 this week.

Lukakau dont give that many double digit points He now has 8 goals to
his name, maybe he will get another 8-9. So woukdnt it be worth it to remove him and bring in another big hitting mid?
You can evidently see the change in strength of your squad.

For eg:- my current squad is

    Marshall

    Jags Terry Debuchy GabbD Chester

    Wally ramsey Silva hazard oveido

    Suarez Rooney Lukaku

i could get this team and go 3-5-2 ,

    Marshall

    Jags Mert Shawcross Debuchy Chester

    Wally Ramsey Silva Cabaye Hazard

    Suarez Rooney Rodriquez

    Honest opinions please.
    Cheers

I don't think it's worth shifting Lukaku before Boxing Day- Everton at home to Sunderland, who are likely to be without both of their first choice central defenders- Brown and O'Shea

I don't mind the 3-5-2 plan, though. Great depth in that side to negate against possible xmas period rotation!

So boils down to Mert ShawX Cabaye v Terry Gabbidon Lukaku? With only two of three playing each week? I like the idea of a shift in formation but there doesn't seem to be much between the two options, imo.

      So it's
      Oviedo > Cabaye
      &
      Lukaku > J Rod.

With Eve fixtures at the moment and Lukaku's potential to explode I would stick until at least mid Jan. Reassess with your WC.

Hits don't get counted there. In H2H & overall score they do.
That's why I have penalties for hits in my leagues. 4 points makes a lot of difference in GW rank unless very high.

    Suarez (c), Welbeck, Remy

    Bank = 4.8

Looks like Oviedo's run is over. The choice for a replacement comes down to Barkley & Januzaj & I'm leaning towards Barkley as I think Januzaj could be rotated. Are there any other players besides those 2 that I've missed. Ozil probably rested this week so I need a nailed on 5th midfielder.

Totally agree. There's a reason that the highest overall scorers are usually at the top of leagues and the lower scorers at the bottom. Over 38 weeks luck usually evens itself out as well.

You could be unlucky & play the highest scorer in your league each week meaning you end up on 0 points. Unless you finish highest in a GW, there's no guarantee of a win in H2H.

But considering how close all our scores are every GW now, it's becoming a little bit more reliant on luck.

Maybe it was different when the teams were not having the same 7-8 players.

      Did she sell Terry?
I remember last week she said she would kick their balls if someone told her to keep Terry

Up to 11th in League 7. I'm 3 points behind Xtina in overall. H2H is luck of the draw.

Half luck of the draw, half a solid consistency imo.

All H2H's are luck based. You could get the 2nd best score out of 20 each week & finish last with 0 wins.

          That's the bottom line.

1th in tier 7? Rough... a lot of new strong entrants? These leagues will take some years to distribute out according to skill πŸ˜‰

1st season for me so got put there.

I have more points than 5 of the 10 above me. Goes to show it's luck.

      Koscielny has a good chance.

Clyne has had a knock since forever, so cannot say.

WTF is Stephens day? I think most call it boxing day. Personally I don't think Koscielny or Clyne will be back for Boxing day.
