Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

    😕

I've seen lots of posts on here referring to Sterling's performance on Saturday, some saying he was Liverpool's best player, some saying he was their worst 😆

Morning fellas. Just woke up and have nothing to do so just gonna do a quick comparison for two prime candidates for this week captaincy: Suarez and Wall-E

    [Ownership]
    Suarez: 50.8%
    Walcott: 11.8%

Most people will definitely captain Suarez this week and Walcott ownership is not low enough to be considered as a differential anymore, so going Walcott (c) can be a huge payoff.

    [Recent Form]
    Suarez: 44 points in last 4 & 83 points in last 6.
    Walcott: 36 points in last 4 & 41 points in last 6.

Last 6 isn't really relevant because Walcott only played ~40 minutes there, but the figure shows how explosive Suarez is. And despite his blanks, he still outscores Walcott in the 4 games

    [Home vs Away Form]
    Suarez: 14 goals 2 assist in 6 home matches & 5 goals 3 assist in 8 games
    Walcott: 3 goals 1 assist in 4 home matches* & 4 goals 2 assist in 5 games

*I removed his 2 home games where he only played 20 minutes

Suarez is definitely a home player. Should score big when playing at Anfield.

    [Flat Track Bully Factor]
    Suarez (7 games): 15 goals 7 assists vs bottom 10 | 3 goals 7 assists vs top 10
    Walcott (6 games): 2 goals 3 assists vs bottom 10 | 2 goals 2 assists vs top 10

Suarez flat track bully clearly. Walcott somewhat relishes big games.

    [Involvement]
Suarez: Have 75% Involvement in the team's goals when he starts (30 G/A in 40 team goals)
Walcott: Have 47% Involvement in the team's goals when he starts (7 G/A in 15 team goals)

Both have pretty high involvement, but Suarez wins hands down. When Liverpool scores a goal, 75% it's gonna be Suarez.

    [Team Home Scoring Form]
Liverpool: Scored 19 goals in the last 6 & 25 goals in 9 at home
Arsenal: Scored 10 goals in the last 6 & 16 goals in 9 at home

Liverpool is scoring freely and especially at home. Almost 3 goals / game that's crazy high.

    [Opponent's Defensive Form]
Hull: Conceded 7 and 2 CS in last 6.
Cardiff: Conceded 10 and 2 CS in last 6.

Similar form, but Hull is a wee bit tighter.

    [Opponent's Away Form]
Hull: Conceded 17 with 0 CS in the last 9 away games (vs 6 CS in 10 games at home)
Cardiff: Conceded 15 with 2 CS in the last 9 away games (vs 3 CS in 10 games at home)

Hull can't defend away from home to save themselves.

    _________
    Conclusion:
Walcott is a very solid captaincy candidate for this week, especially for those looking to catch up with captain diffrential. He's explosive so he can score big vs a managerless Cardiff

But all stats points to Suarez.
His 2 blanks vs fortress-at-Etihad City and Jose-minded Chelsea only establishes his flat track bully status. With Liverpool's free scoring form and Suarez in the form of his live and always involves in the goals vs a Hull side who simply can't defend away from home - it's an easy choice for Suarez captainers.

    Suarez (c).

Couldnt find #1 but shouldn't be too far off.

Looks good. Well replace Kaboul with Dawson and remove Bale to upgrade others.

      Boruc 4.0
      Kaboul Coleman Collins Amorebieta Turner
      Bale Hazard Walcott Snoddie Koren
      Aguero Sturridge JRod

      Ivanovic, Coleman, Toure, (Chester, Brayford)
      Walcott, Hazard, Coutinho, Mirallas, (Jedinak)
      Lukaku, Giroud, Benteke

lol, actually not all that bad. Still have Ches and Coleman; have since rebought Wally, Lukaku. and Hazard.

Silva and Dzeko to Yaya and JRod worth a hit?

I already have Ravel, Collins and Rooney as doubtful. (First two are very unlikely to feature)

Chester and Shaw to come on, so I need as much availability as possible

    Current team:

    Migs
    Coleman Kosc Collins*
    Haz Wally Sterling Ravel*
    Suarez Rooney Dzeko*

    4.0 Shaw Chester Silva*

Is it me or has everyone completely forgot about Wilfried Zaha, Moyes included? A great talent displayed with Palace last year and glimpses in Utd pre season but now he isn't even much of a benchwarmer! Scandalous that a majorly out of form Ashley Young gets the nod along with rookie Janazaj.....

Am I mad? Or do I have a point? Zaha was highly talked up during preseason...

I wouldn't mind punting on Williams this GW. Clean sheet might be a stretch...but blocked shots and successful passes, could be a BAP or two in it. You seem like the type who doesn't mind a BAP, either... Ha!

all of JEvans/Kos/Nasty would be an improvement.

Chico has tough fixtures ( and Vorm makes a big difference to them)

I wanted a cheap way to get into Arsenal's back line. I missed the Mertesacker bus. Gibbs always seems hurt so I have opted for Sagna although I'm worried about the rise of Jenkinson. Koscielny was my other choice but with Vermaelen lurking it was to sketchy to get him. My question is what will Sagna offer me.

    Current team:

    Hart
    Koscielny, Evra, Coleman, Terry
    Walcott, Hazard, Whittingham
    Suarez (C), Rooney, Lukaku
    4.0, Fer, Turner, Bacuna
    0.2 In The Bank

Through short-sighted transfers leading up to the Wildcard I've ended up with way too much invested in defence and I'm planning to Wildcard early to redistribute the funds, but apart from that problem does the team look alright for this week? Cheers.

Both not really an option unless benching one of Cabaye or Sterling. The rest of my team is to solid to consider benching someone else. Good complaint I suppose. There the worst players I could bench and in my opinion it's not worth it.

Regardless , IMO save it. Use it next week for double transfer and prolong your wildcard. The longer you can leave the wildcard the better you will do as long as you have a decent team, which you have.

Okay, these two transfers for -4?

    Williams, Williamson > Koscielny, Parr

I know it's risky taking hits for defenders, but this looks promising. If I don't make the -4 up this week, I'll surely more than make it up in the next few. Not to mention this means I get an extra transfer next week, since I've solved my defensive problem a week early. Thoughts?

don't have ward, can't afford any extra funds unfortunately haha.

The main thing with this switch is that Kos and Parr have quality fixtures throughout the month; my defence rotates really well if I make these transfers now.

I would do it, parr is at risk of dropping out but ward seems well suited to his central midfield role so I wouldn't be surprised if he stays in. Double check parr is playing rb and not lb, if it's lb moxey will be back v soon

Tony Pulis will need to check on the availability of striker Cameron Jerome after he was forced off with an ankle injury in the first half of the 1-0 defeat to City. HIs absence would likely see Marouane Chamakh return to the starting lineup, while the Palace boss could even shift back to a 4-4-2 with Dwight Gayle in contention for a start - Yannick Bolasie would be the player most likely to make way with Barry Bannan shifting to the left flank. With Stuart O'Keefe and Kagisho Dikgacoi remaining doubts, Joel Ward looks set to retain his central midfield role alongside Mile Jedinak. Elsewhere, Jonathan Parr is set to retain the left-back role ahead of Dean Moxey with Adrian Mariappa continuing his run of starts at right-back. - Demi's team news from today

    Hey All,

Tossing up whether or not it would be worth taking a -4pt hit to replace Silva with any MID option, or save the FT and play Clyne at home against Chelsea

    Ruddy
    Mertesacker Clyne Ward Bardsley
    Hazard Cabaye Walcott(vc)
    Suarez(c) Rooney Lukaku

    Vorm Chester Pozuelo Silva*

Not too keen on those moves for a -4pt hit, to be completely honest. No stand-out CS option out of the 3, apart from Kos - and I already have Mertesacker... not too keen on the Arsenal DEF double-up. Clyne at home to Chelsea, not a bad punt, I think
