Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

So ivanovic is @ 6.1. Coleman is @ 6.6. Whom will u prefer now?

I bought Coleman @ 5 so I can only sell @ 5.8 doubt I will do it but it's tempting

Yes I mean it's tempting to get Iva for Coleman. Under mourino negative tactics I think they will stop conceding stupid goals now. Everton I am not sure they will still be explosive for the 2nd part of the season

And Iva is a good differential now then Coleman isn't it? So what I can't afford at the start of the season I can now with Iva dropping and Coleman rising

Wildcard idiocy - would you ever do a full back line of budget defenders and rotate it through the second half?

    I can afford:

    Szczesny - Mannone
    Coleman - Burner - Ward - Chester - (4.2m)
    Walcott - Hazard - Silva - (Januzaj - Mutch)
    Rooney - Suarez - Aguero

    Mental.

Yeah, with my January wildcard, I think I'm going to get one decent defender, say Baines or Evra, and then the rest cheapies that rotate.

With the Mannone/Marshall combo you can pop Coleman up to Baines in the above, depending on purchase. By the same logic, Burner and Ward rotate just as well, and Chester carries an attacking threat.

Still not sure on the mids - I probably want to go a little stronger on Def - but it's an interesting proposition.

i own him every year for a minimum of 10-15 gameweeks. Word of advice.. if you get him, hold him for a stretch! that way you enjoy a good 5+ ppg as his points are not very predictable. If you kneejerk and sell early it's gonna lead to frustration

How much are you prepared to pay for Baines? Coleman's in form, and has the exact same fixtures, funnily enough. Granted, he's not as much a differential (Baines on 13+%) but he's 0.8 cheaper, and still rising.

    Davis (Marshall)
    Terry GJ Distin Gabbidon (Burner)
    Hazard Wally Cabaye (Redmond Silva)
    Suarez(c) Rooney Dzeko
    2.2 in the bank
    1 FT
    A) Dzeko to Giroud/Podolski (next week to Soldado/Adebayor prob)
    B) Burner to Koscielny and play 5 at the back (next week Dzeko to Adebayor/Jrod)

    Thanks
Kinda stuck on this one. if i knew whether Giroud/Pod would defo play i would do A). B) sets me up nicely for Jan as it allows me to experiment with punts elsewhere from next week without much risk

A with Podolski, you know you want to!

Giroud tired and kicked around against Newcastle for 90 minutes, Rosicky useless for 90 minutes, don't see both Flamini and Arteta starting so it's one of them with Wilshere imo.

So that leaves Lukas in for Giroud or Rosicky. I think he starts. Majority of posters on Arsenal forms pencilling in a Podolski start as striker or left wing.

Can easily see Koscileny getting 6-9 points though. and it lets me keep him @ 5.3 when i WC end of Jan(when he'll be 5.6+ surely).
Though Podolski in will be an insanely fun move!! then next week Pod to Soldado/Adebayor. sounds bloody exciting on paper. Koscielny + Distin + Terry + GJ will lead to some benchin headaches in Jan i guess too

It's the designated punt slot now that the rest of my team is more or less settled. Benching Silva, playing a crap defender fixture for GW20 but getting Podolski in myself.

Yea Rooney(c) here too. It's about time we got lucky! If you're keen to punt on them, by all means. I'll probably be holding Podolski for awhile. He's that kind of player...might not start but can get a goal/assist even if he comes on as a sub. Happened plenty of times last season - just that RVP Suarez Lambert was too solid a template to break. Lukas had almost 7 points per 90 min if i recall right last season. Not too shabby.

    Gw 21 fixtures 😯

For those that are using the WC early, the upside could be immense. All the big teams have great fixtures on paper except City. And then City have Cardiff at home next and its difficult to see them coming out of trouble soon.

Aguero could return on Gw 22. And a lot of people ( me included) are gonna hold it till then. But with the current set of fixtures in Gw 21, most of us would have a great team anyway. We wouldn't want to WC with that lot. Only a few second choices that we would get rid of for THE player from The team.

For example, Everton have Norwich at home and a few of us with Distin or Oviedo would like to have Coleman instead for that fixture but that doesn't warrant a WC.

I seriously think the best time to WC would be for Gw 24. The more you wait, the better you are placed to put your team out for the Rest of the Season.

Ps: Not a lot of time is left to build your TV up. So gotta work with what you have. The strategy of using your WC to build TV up was in Gw 2 or 3. Any team with a SV of 104+ should be able to get a decent team out.

The bigges plus point for me for WCing in GW 24.. you get to take a couple of punts GW 23 with team news coming out before the deadline 😉

      Manu vs Cardiff
      Sunderland vs Stoke
      Swansea vs Fulham

Get to take a 1 week punt from players from these teams(Welbeck/Januzaj/Fletcher/Bony etc if they start)

Try and go with RVP (c) in Gw 23. If ever there was a punt, that'd be it

since they are all single GW punts i dont want to take a hit at all.. i'd prob need a couple hits to work RVP in 🙂 .. saving a transfer GW 22 is the plan so i may be able to though

I like this plan. Will try to work 2 FTs going into GW23. Some fantastic fixtures to punt on.

Hopefully we're not going too punt crazy Keith! 😆

Sure. There are tonnes of alternatives that'd propel you up the rankings. Kos and Nasty ahead of the template Zab/ Meet/ Coleman would save a lot of funds.

Seamus Coleman has just proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Rachel Cunningham, who said yes.

I just don't understand how a footballer can end up with such an average-looking girl. Seamus is a bit of a looker himself, so you'd think his girlfriend would be hot, but she's not!!!

I mean, if I was rich and good-looking, I'd only date models. Oh wait, I am and I already do. LOL

Would love to Jeremain Lens come to the premier league, ive seen him in the eredivisie and for the Holland National team and he is class. As a Chelsea fan I don't see how we could use him and fit him onto the pitch but I would love to see him make a name for himself with a mid-table side in the prem.
