Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Siesta

When the team sheets arrived for City’s home clash against Palace on Saturday afternoon, a certain little Spaniard’s Fantasy owners were full of optimism for the 90 minutes ahead. By the final whistle, though, those same folk were left cursing their misfortune as David Silva handed them the most unwanted of Christmas cards – a fifth caution of the season which rules him out of Wednesday’s trip to Swansea.

Silva not only seems to have stepped up in consistency under Manuel Pellegrini (a goal or assist in eight of 11 appearances), he has also developed a penchant for picking up yellows. Over his previous three seasons with the Etihad club, the playmaker had received a total of four bookings in the league – he’s managed to mirror that already this term and with a caution accrued in the Capital One Cup, he’ll be tucking into his New Year’s Day dinner while Pellegrini’s side make their way to the Liberty.

Also sidelined through suspension are a couple of defenders – Villa’s Ciaran Clark and Chelsea’s David Luiz. Clark will miss a crucial trip to Sunderland, whilst Luiz, in just his eighth league start, picked up a fifth caution of the season in yesterday’s home win over Liverpool and will sit out the trip to Southampton.

The trio joined Sunderland’s Wes Brown on the banned list – the Black Cats centre-half serves the last of a three-match ban and will be available for the FA Cup clash against Carlisle at the weekend.

After Wednesday, the Tightrope extends to 10 bookings, with the new deadline Sunday April 13 (Gameweek 34). A special mention goes to Newcastle’s right-back Mathieu Debuchy – with seven cautions to his name, the Frenchman is just three yellows away from suspension already.

I want to keep me wc til the end of jan, to slot Aguero back in, so was wondering, does it make sense to take an 8pt hit this week to set me up for the next 3 gws by doing
    Marshall > Mannone
    Cabaye > Sterling
    Shaw > Mert?
Have made my way into 2nd place in my ML only 13 pts behind so a bit loathe to take a big hit but....?

"Tomkins loss came at a particularly busy time for the medical team and while James Collins has a chance of making the first game of 2014 at Craven Cottage, it is the other high-profile names occupying the treatment table at Chadwell Heath that the manager is keen to get back out on the pitch. Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Winston Reid, Ravel Morrison and Ricardo Vaz Te are all unlikely to travel to West London, leading their manager to think what might have been after West Brom struck three at the Boleyn Ground.

"With six or seven players injured for weeks and weeks and weeks and our most expensive player injured that's why we are where we are. If I had them all back and I had them all playing then we'd probably be around tenth like we were last year, but we haven't."

This is from the WHM homepage. Ravel Morrison is one of the players named that are unlikely to travel for Fulham game. Anyone know anything about this?

Is the general view to play the WC between 29th Jan and 1st Feb?

Doesn't allow chance to take advantage of any in week price changes and likely to be a fair bit of rotation given the compressed schedule.

    http://deadspin.com/map-what-every-country-calls-the-thing-we-call-soccer-1491638984

Over on Reddit, user reddripper has compiled an excellent map of what different parts of the world call the game where you use your feet to kick a ball into a goal. Shades of pink are variations and literal translations of "football," blues are "soccer," and greens represent other etymologies.

It's nice to see that America doesn't stand alone—Ireland, Canada, Southern Africa, Oceania, Japan, and half (?) of the Philippines are in the "soccer" camp. The real weirdness is along the Adriatic Sea, where Italy calls the game "Calcio" and Slovenia/Croatia/Bosnia & Herzegovina call it "Nogomet."

This is my pickle for the week. What would others do?
Its either keep Dzeko or replace him with someone like Fletcher OR free up funds by taking a hit and not sure whether to do that as it would be for someone like Giroud and im not too sure if he could make up for that hit.HMM i could be persuaded otherwise tho

What are Rooney owners here going to do if Rooney is only 50/50 for Wednesday's game, and may not make it?
Personally, I'll stick with him. But two blank GWs for one of your star strikers is not helpful at this time of the season.

Rooney will make it. He's not injured. Was just a smokescreen by Moyes so that they wouldn't blame him for resting Rooney if Norwich got any points.

of course someone mentioned it, the media reports and infers whatever they want from what Moyes tells them lol..same exact thing last time he was "injured" and everyone kneejerked and sold him and 'surprise!' he started the next match.

Norwich was not as important as Spurs, simple as.
