Walcott Ruled out for Six Months

Arsenal have this evening confirmed Theo Walcott has been sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury sustained in Saturday evening’s cup clash with Tottenham.

The winger was stretchered off towards the end of the 2-0 win and underwent scans on the problem earlier today. The Gunners issued the following update on their official website:

“After coming off injured in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, the Club regrettably announces that Theo Walcott has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. Theo will have surgery in London in the near future and is expected to be out for at least six months, therefore missing the remainder of the season and the World Cup in Brazil in the summer. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Theo a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on a football pitch as soon as possible.”

The news is a massive blow to Arsenal’s title aspirations and Fantasy managers alike. Ironically, Walcott’s Fantasy potential looked to have stepped up a notch at the weekend, too – Arsene Wenger chose to field him as the lone striker in the north London derby, with Olivier Giroud sidelined through illness and Nicklas Bendtner out with an ankle injury.

Having returned from abdominal surgery in late November, Walcott was tentatively eased back into the first-team and produced a pair of assists over four sub appearances. From Gameweek 16 onwards, though, he racked up 47 points over just five starts, with doubles against City and West Ham followed by an assist against Newcastle and goal at home to Cardiff.

The bandwagon was at full pace, with almost 120,000 FPL managers snapping up his services prior to the last two deadlines, as Walcott’s price leapt from 9.1 to 9.6. Indeed, over 50,000 have already transferred the winger in this week alone.

From a Fantasy perspective, today’s news may even prove the tipping point for those who have so far resisted the temptation of playing the winter wildcard early. Walcott’s absence will have a significant effect on many a Fantasy plan, forcing us back to the drawing board for yet another revision.

With games against Villa, Fulham, Southampton and Palace in the next four, Arsenal’s upcoming schedule bodes well for Fantasy returns and is likely to see many turn to Mesut Ozil, with Santi Cazorla also a potential target until Aaron Ramsey returns from a thigh injury. The German has plummeted in price from 10.8 down to 9.9 yet has averaged an impressive 6.3 points per game – joint-top for midfielders – and looks the prime target for current Walcott owners looking to take advantage of those fixtures.

Alternatively, for those unwilling to opt for Yaya Toure as a route into City’s goal potential, now may be the time to turn to David Silva. The pair have mirrored Ozil’s 6.3 ppg but the Spaniard, with an ownership of just 5% and price of 9.3 to his team-mate’s 10.1, may well be the ideal trade.

At least we have an excuse for being knocked out as usual! We are Top 8 in the world and we get knocked out at the 8 teams stage, seems about right to me.

Does totalfpl also have Ozil's price rising time incorrect? I know whenever Ozil is -50+% he drops but for rising is it the 100% he needs to get to rise? Or 50?

On totalfpl, it's 100% either way. They measure until the next rise/fall.

Yes but Ozil has been an exception when his price falls. All it takes is a -50% on totalfpl and he drops. So I was wondering if people have noticed Ozil rising at 100%+ or just the 50.

There was something strange about his price falls which may have been due to an incorrect drop threshold on TotalFPLwhen he was being off-loaded. His rises have to be 100%.

Should be 100% now for both a rise and a fall, given that he is below his start price.

Can sell Theo for 9.3 in bank....options include:

    A. Sell for Oscar
    B. Sell for Gerrard
    C. Sell for Coutinho
    D. Sel for yAya. Santi or ozil for a hit
    E. take the wildcard

Genuinely think ozil the only arsenal option who is not rotation proof. Plus not sure santi worth 9.5 this year.

      Save the wildcard.

Do you already have Silva for City coverage? I'm personallty tempted to double up on Silva/Yaya as I think City just have the capability of running riot on any given day.

Yes but do you play 4-3-3 through some misguided belief that having Baines means he counts as your 4th midfielder? Or do you sensibly play 3-4-3 with Baines as an uber defender?

Remember Ox. And even without Ox, i reckon Gnab will get mostly cameos and a rare start

This Gnabry stuff is such a load of balls.

Walcott's been injured plenty this season what trees was Gnabry pulling up?

every time Gnabry plays he produces a goal or an assist.

by far the most exiting prospect in the PL (way ahead of Januazaj/Barkley)

So I need to transfer out Walcott before the price drop and can't afford to transfer in Ozil or Yaya, I want to hold on to WC till the end!

    Current midfield:

    Lallana, Sterling, Hazard, Walcott

    I have two options:

    A. Erikson
    B. Silva

Otherwise I take a 4pt hit and take out Lallana, but he has a good fixture. I like the idea of Silva for City coverage, but Erikson has good form. I should say, I already have Ade...

    please help!

Midfield is Lallana, Cabaye, Whittingham, Ki and Walcott
Strikers are Rooney, Suarez and Lukaku

    Do I sell Wally for
    A - Ozil
    B - Silva
    C - Hazard

Any updates on Rooney and Cabaye? Already have Walcott out and facing a possible early wildcard. 🙁

Thoughts on this wildcard team? (I'd imagine it's fairly generic, but hey ho)

    Mannone, Marshall
    Coleman, Koscielny, Nastasic, Evans, Ward
Hazard, Ozil, Yaya Toure, Barkley, Januzaj
    Suarez, Lukaku, Adebayor

Got enough money in the bank to do Yaya + Lukaku/Adebayor > Puncheon + RvP/Aguero in a couple of weeks time too.

How about downgrading one of your defenders so you can upgrade from Puncheon when the time comes.

Those defenders aren't exactly expensive though. Downgrading just one of them would only really give me 1 mill extra.

Looks good Master P, particularly looking forward to Yaya-Puncheon move.

He's bound to do nothing, but I've been lining up Puncheon for a couple of weeks now, even before we knew he's on penalties. Stats are very good in terms of shots inside the area and Palace have some favourable home fixtures coming home.

    Morning* all

Just logged in, I imagine finding a replacement for Walcott has been discussed at some point 😉 has a group consensus been reached or are there a few camps breaking out? Any good insight or discussion in previous pages

I think I'm between eriksen and ozil and tbh over the next 2 weeks I may look to do Walcott, sterling and Rooney > erik, ozil + ?
