The ScoutCast – Episode 121 – Opportunity

A new year, a new opportunity. While the frantic festive spell saw me fail miserably in my attempt to take a bite out of Granville’s mini-league lead, January does at least hand me, and other stragglers, a chink of light. The Winter Wildcard could well be a false dawn, however. Having got my squad back on an even keel, the freedom to scrap it and start over is almost a scary prospect.

On the plus side, the situation certainly seems to have Granville spooked. My Mancunian rival is looking on his Wildcard with suspicion, leaving me hoping that, during his own January surgery, he makes one or two vital slips with the scalpel.

Around the Wildcard chatter, Granville and I deliberate over how to fill the Walcott-sized hole in our teams, whilst giving the regulars their usual airing. We even reveal plans on how you, yes you, the listener, can play a part in future ScoutCasts.

Please note: this show was recorded before Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko scored five goals against West Ham. Rest assured, I would have moaned further about the pairing’s miserable two points at Swansea had it been recorded following last night’s goal blitz.

Sweep with the new broom via this link or grasp the nettle of change via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Lukaku or Suarez captain? Surely it's got to be a closer call that the poll suggests? Liverpool poor record at the Britania too!

Oscar touted as rotation risk…but he was Jose's preferred '10' prior to injuries and discounting return from Brazil matches.
      On form and explosive.

Gerrard on set-piece delivery.. corners & pens. Assisting Suarez, Studge (on return) and Skrtel's headers.

Difficult to call. I currently have Oscar and considering a WC switch too Gerrard.

Depends on your team balance. I have plans for Suarez/Studge & have Hazard - so lean to Oscar.
But when I go Suarez/Aguero I think I prefer Gerrard to partner Haz.

      Be interested in other replies…..

      All 4? That's what i'm veering toward.

Chelsea is a rather odd one as their strikers contribute next to nothing FPL wise. If you're bullish on Chelsea, mid is the only place worth doubling up. Gerrard is a bps magnet and his set piece delivery is second to none imo. Suarez gets the free kicks or penalties, Gerrard scores them 🙂

I'm very likely to get 11 out this week right? I'd rather not take a hit if I don't get any more bad news. I know people will say Walcott-> Silva but I feel that can wait a week as I'm not sure the hit will pay for itself and money isn't an issue.

          Don't pay attention anymore tbh.
Rooney has been ready all week going off twitter.
          He was never playing midweek.

Best bet for points is Ozil and Cazorla currently. Set pieces give Ozil the edge.

I originally had my mind set on getting Cazorla, now I'm not too sure. Everyone seems to think Ozil is the best option. But I wouldn't mind erikssen or gerrard either. It's more mind trickery, for some reason it feels like a 'downgrade' whereas getting Ozil feels an 'upgrade'.

Lukaku is a bargain. A few blanks (from an outstanding start) and folk have jumped ship. Sometimes he looks a little off the pace, but his price is such that I don't care. He's cheaper than Oscar/Hazard/Ozil/Walcott/Silva/Yaya and has a decent PPG average.

He'll continue to do well under RM and has some of the best providers in the league from wide in Pienaar, Baines and Coleman.

(I'm also a blue so it's no bother for me).

People have Hazard, Lukaku has been inconsistent and jammy, Arsenal's midfield is a better source of points right now.

Most people have hazard, but oscar is a cheaper alternative (considering hazard price hike) for chelsea coverage. While Lukaku has fired blanks before so people, kinda "dont rate him" because there are cheaper alternatives on better form

imo 1.hazard 2.silva 3.oscar (depending on starts but he was mainly out due to injury) 4.lukaku (placed him fourth due to him blanking because he doesn't get enough service because the mids behind him have license to shoot) . I not to sure 'bout 3 and 4

I'm going for Giroud. I think I can go without Aguero to be honest. I'm thinking in 2-3 weeks of having Giroud and SAS as my front 3. Currently on Giroud, Negredo and Suarez

Lukaku and Giroud both have 1 goal in their last 7 PL games, not good for £8.5m forwards.
Oscar has not had many minutes recently and Hazard is in most teams.
Out of the three Oscar is the only one who looks a good option to me.

Not necessarily concerned but considering going elsewhere. Stoke at home even with a weakened defence can be hard to break down on a narrow pitch, doubt Liverpool have more than a goal or two in them. Susrez bound to feature in those of course. It's just the lack of alternatives that are holding me back. It should be lukaku's home to Norwich with stats and fixture in his favour but he is just not converting so is a big risk

yaya never seen a stronger player than him, always nailed on , rarely injured (he will play tomorrow)

silva seems to be more fragile with injuries but cheaper and more skillfull

      million dollar question

      Silva
      + low ownership
      + higher up the pitch
      + more creative
      + cheaper

      - injury worries
      - may not get 90 minutes

      Yaya
+ will play 90 when fit
+ set pieces and pens minus Aguero
      + scoring for fun

      - high ownership
      - bloody expensive
