The ScoutCast – Episode 121 – Opportunity

A new year, a new opportunity. While the frantic festive spell saw me fail miserably in my attempt to take a bite out of Granville’s mini-league lead, January does at least hand me, and other stragglers, a chink of light. The Winter Wildcard could well be a false dawn, however. Having got my squad back on an even keel, the freedom to scrap it and start over is almost a scary prospect.

On the plus side, the situation certainly seems to have Granville spooked. My Mancunian rival is looking on his Wildcard with suspicion, leaving me hoping that, during his own January surgery, he makes one or two vital slips with the scalpel.

Around the Wildcard chatter, Granville and I deliberate over how to fill the Walcott-sized hole in our teams, whilst giving the regulars their usual airing. We even reveal plans on how you, yes you, the listener, can play a part in future ScoutCasts.

Please note: this show was recorded before Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko scored five goals against West Ham. Rest assured, I would have moaned further about the pairing’s miserable two points at Swansea had it been recorded following last night’s goal blitz.

Sweep with the new broom via this link or grasp the nettle of change via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Before January WC is a good time to punt but I am not sure he is ready or a better option than other differentials such as eriksen

Am on WC currently and feeling a little puntish. Then again a midfield of Silva, Gerrard, Özil, Hazard AND Dempsey is a bit too much.

Aguero owned by just 8.2% of which 95% of those must be ghost teams. Heck of a differential when he is back.

It doesn't matter if Stoke's defence is good, Suarez will just have to bang them in from outside the box. No worries.

        So it's;
        Azpi Lukaku Eriksen
        or
        Baines Ade 5.2mid

Make it Januzaj and I'd go B. I don't like Baines though, he's taken his foot off the pedal.

            Lukaku, Jrod, Suarez

it comes down who scores more of oscar, hazard
              i guess u r not keeping lukaku?

I have a gut feeling Oscar might outscore Hazard in the coming weeks. He has looks so good. Might go for it.

Only reason I am not getting Coleman is stubbornness, when I think "pick who you think will score the most points" Colemas has to be in there.

I reckon you should keep hazard in there, you can always go to oscar if you need to bring in aguero, and it gives you a chance to see if this was just another good patch from oscar or whether he really is getting some consistency.

If I downgrade Hazard to Oscar I can afford Coleman, Zab and Eriksen with enough money to still do Lukaku > Aguero

Coleman may be expensive but he is still cheaper than Baines and playing so well.

I think I am going to sell Hazard 😯

    Cazorla - Ozil - Erikssen - Gerrard
Honestly cannot pick one out of this bunch.

    Cazorla - Explosive, differential
    Ozil - Consistent, high ownership
Erikssen - Both he and Tottenham finding form and scoring goals, differential
    Gerrard - Consistent, differential

All have set pieces in their locker, Cazorla a little less. What to do?

I had the same set of choices and went for ozil. My decision was based on it being a 2-3 week decision and not having any arsenal attack next week home to Fulham was what scared me the most. Caz could work out but ozil is the reliable choice and will push caz out of the hole and back on the wing
      Good luck with your decision

Not sure about double Hull and Everton defense to be honest, and your bench is very week. Rest of squad looks good, but I would downgrade Baines (assuming you have had Coleman since starting price) to improve the bench.

Best Midfielder option at 4.3? (3rd on bench after Burner/Brown rotation)

I've got Noone in at the mo – as he's been involved more consistently and looks to be relatively forward. Other options are buying a more secure DMF like Jedinak/Lucas/Tiote or taking a punt on someone like Gnabry who could see more of the pitch while Wally/Ramsey are out.

    Thoughts?

Not really no. but the question remains. I want a VERY cheap midfielder so I can play a big 343 and have enough to fund Rooney => Aguero

        Boruc (Davis)
        Coleman — Nastasic — Koscielny
Eriksen (Ramsey) — Gerrard — Silva — Hazard
Lukaku (vc)– Suárez (c) — Rooney

Brown & Burner + Noone (or other 4.3 mid)

Nope. I'm not too concerned about having a player that can come in and score points as he'll be 3rd after Sunderland/Cardiff rotation. Most concerned about what I can get for my money - that is more likely to score compared to others at that price.

Well I think its a big upgrade for just 0.3m. You have a mid who you can reply on when injuries to key players hit you. Even better if the injury is short term. Just put in for a week with a good chance of a decent score.

I am also tossing up the idea of swapping Rooney > Van Persie if he has a solid game week. But this would mean downgrading Coleman > Jagielka, Januzaj > Parker or Colback and Bardsley > 3.9 defender. Is it worth considering?

    Morning Guys

I had a really bad start this season and currently chasing a 100 points lead in my mini league, I have activated my WC and currently thinking of going with this team:

    Cech K. Davis
    Koscielny Baines Chester Ward Bardsley
    Pozuelo Lallana Januzaj Silva Hazard
    Negredo Giroud Suárez

Team value is 104 and .2 in the bank

I need you thoughts on the following:
    - I initially had Ozil/Cazorla in my plan to have attacking cover from Arsenal but decided to go with Giroud since none in my league have him, I have a feeling that he will outscore O/C, wise?
    - Silva/Negredo willchange to Aguero/Ramsey when they are fit.
    - Cech/Bardsly or Manonne/Terry with downgrading Januzaj?
    - Pozuelo or ??

    Thanks in advance.

Something that I have noticed is a big topic ready through the pages - Gerrard or Oscar.

I am playing my wildcard at present. Currently planning on doubling up on CHE, ARS, MCI attacks. (When Aguero is back)

It really comes down to - would you rather have Gerrard + Suarez or Hazard + Oscar.

Oscar - On form, Seems Jose's favoured no.10 (Slight rotation risk), involved in most attacks, CHE strikers dont deliver much fantasy wise.

Gerrard - Nailed on, Bonus magnet, Gets the set pieces Suarez doesn't. Coming back from injury.

If you want guaranteed points I feel Gerrard is the best option. Oscar is very hard to overlook though and I think he has more potential to get a big score.

I had this exact decision this week and went with Gerrard.

I decided that over the next 3, Gerrard is pretty much guaranteed to get 12-20 points. Oscar could realistically get 20-30 points, but there's also a good chance he will end up with something like 5-10 points.

Gerrard is the safe boring pick, Oscar the punt. I am safe and boring so went Gerrard.
