Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 22

After back-to-back double Gameweeks it’s time to assess the usual info including Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 23.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs West BromSaido Berahino
Aston Villa vs SwanseaJonathan de Guzman
Hull vs FulhamTom Huddlestone

Fulham vs West HamScott Parker
Liverpool vs HullLuis Suarez
Southampton vs ChelseaOscar
Stoke vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Sunderland vs Aston VillaGabriel Agbonlahor
West Brom vs NewcastleSaido Berahino
Man United vs TottenhamVlad Chiriches

Over the double Gameweek, four defenders, eleven midfielders and five forwards shared the awards. Eden Hazard picked up his seventh of the season and has now been awarded more MoTM awards than any other player, one more than Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies. West Brom’s wonderkid Saido Berahino picked up the award twice over the two matches and comes in at only 5.9 million – for those opting for an expensive five in midfield, he looks a decent enabler.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Hugo Lloris, Vito Mannone, David Marshall, David Stockdale and Jussi Jaaskelainen were the top shot-stoppers. Jaaskelainen has now joined Brad Guzan and Simon Mignolet at the top of the bonus points table with 10 additional points.

In defence, a total of 13 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and eight for passes completed – the three players who managed to achieve both were Kyle Naughton, Daniel Agger and Vincent Kompany. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 30 players earned bonus points – 19 for tackling and 20 for passes. Several players managed to gather both over the two games but a special mention for Cheick Tiote and Steve Sidwell, who both gained six additional points each after a combination of passing and tackling. Liverpool’s Lucas is now the top bonus-point darling in midfield, with 30 additional points earned.

Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle will have impressed his manager Jose Mourinho as he was the only forward to earn bonus for four completed tackles, earning himself an additional two points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.821.16%
OzilArsenal8.89.35%
GiroudArsenal8.55.63%
JagielkaEverton6.95.13%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.76%

Injury reigns supreme as all of the players mentioned above have found themselves hampered by the festive schedule. Dejan Lovren returned to the first team last week after a bout of illness, whilst Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are both in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Villa on Monday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.86.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.73%
ColemanEverton6.53.90%
NegredoMan City8.63.75%
ToureMan City8.63.64%

The top two transfers in, Eden Hazard and Adam Lallana, look like direct replacements for Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey as they come in at virtually the same price. Yaya Toure and Seamus Coleman’s form has been too good to ignore and it’s easy to why they are amongst the top five in. Alvaro Negredo looks like something of a stop-gap whilst we await the return of Sergio Aguero.

Gameweek 22 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 22, there is an opportunity for three armband options if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (Crystal Palace at Home) → Luis Suarez (Stoke Away) → Mesut Ozil (Aston Villa Away)

For Saturday January 11, Romelu Lukaku is also an option as he plays at home to Norwich. For the fixtures on Sunday 12, we opt for a captain change to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who squares up to Stoke at the Britannia. Alternatively, a Man City asset is an option.

Arsenal roll up to Villa Park on Monday the 13th and, with Aston Villa’s defence looking shaky in recent weeks, Ozil looks a good option for points – as an added bonus, Arsenal play at home to Fulham on Saturday 18, where again he looks an enticing option.

    Does this team need WC?
Wally and Rooney out; Cabaye, Barkley and GJ doubt. I could probably field 11 with 1 FT.

    Marshal /Speroni
    Burner/Dawson/Sagna/Bardsley/ /GJ?
    Hazard/Lallana/Cabaye?/Barkley?/ / Walcott
    Suarez/Lukaku/ /Rooney

1 FT, 0.1 in the bank.

One thing i've learnt from all the players that seem to do well in this game is that they take each week at a time and try and get the strongest team they can for each particular game week.

Makes me think that benching Rooney is madness when Ade has CPL at home.

Then again -Ade will have to outscore (so score) Ravel by 4 points to make it worth it.

    Urgh

Just that there are only 38 possible opportunities to score points in this game.

Should i let one of those opportunities pass by playing Ravel a way to Cardiff (almost certainly no points) or should i take an 8 point hit and get Ozil and Ade, losing Wally and Rooney and leaving Ravel to rot.

I literally have no idea and now my head is fried

Might be time for that January Wildcard. I activated mine and have set up a team of glory. No stress. You just do what you want. And this debate about when is best to use the WC is a bit of mumbo jumbo, in my mind. You only have a few weeks to use it, and if you have players you want now, then why not free your soul and your mind?

You know, week ago I choose Mannone/Marshall on my wildcard, but now I prefer only Mannone for next couple of gameweeks. Try to explain why.

If this gameweek is a main dilemma and problem with Vito (Mannone away Fulham, while Marshall WH at home), we must understand, that after a series of failure Big Sam will prepare something special for Cardiff trip in his key match this season and I really believe that WH will score, maybe loose...but score. While Fulham will attack a lot and it means saves for Mannone + good away form of cats in EPL. So, considering good fixtures for Mannone after this weekend, is this rotation so promising???

I prefer Zabaleta for his attacking potential but maybe Kompany is more nailed?

    Please advise:

    A) Rooney and Fer to Ade and silva (-4)
    B) Rooney and Fer to Giroud/Lukaku and gerrard ( -4)
    C) Rooney to Giroud/ lukaku/ade/negredo and play fer

already have ozil and yaya if that matters at all

Played my wild card as injury iist was just ridiculous

    Boruc (k.davis)

    Brown Mertesacker Coleman (ward, Chester)

    Errikson ozil hazard silva (januzaj)

    Negredo lukaku Suarez (c)

Just can't afford to take a point hit and need to
Keep marching forward. I think this team is in good stead for the weeks ahead! Any thoughts?

I already got Ozil and considering Ade too. Will the vigil for that goon the police shot have any affect on the Spurs match though? Heard it might

    Which is better:

    A) Mannone, McGregor,
    Koscielny,
    Mutch

    B) Shezny, Davis,
    Azpitelta,
    Noone

    And why? Thanks

Please advise - should I sell Rooney to Adebayor for a hit or just play Ravel Morrison and save the four points? Thanks

exactly the same dilemma. currently on 75% keeping Rooney and playing Ravmo.

Partly because i still think Rooney is worth having and i think i'd prefer to play him vs. che over Ade vs swa
