Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 35

With only tonight’s Etihad encounter between City and West Brom left in the Gameweek, we scour the nine matches played out over Saturday and Sunday and analyse the post-match reports for news of any fresh injury concerns:

Arsenal
Thomas Vermaelen’s run of four successive starts came to an end yesterday afternoon after he missed the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Hull with a hamstring injury.

Cardiff
Craig Bellamy missed the home draw against Stoke due to a virus, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed post-match, with the veteran expected back in training on Monday.

Chelsea
Petr Cech missed Saturday evening’s home draw with Sunderland due to a minor illness, according to the Blues’ official twitter stream. Samuel Eto’o is expected to miss tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid due to a knee problem.

Everton
Sylvain Distin was forced off with a hamstring problem during yesterday’s win over United. After the match, Roberto Martinez issued an update on the Frenchman’s fitness:

“”Sylvain will have a scan tomorrow. He felt his hamstring. I just hope we pulled him out of the game just in time. If it’s damaged, it will be difficult for him to play again this season. But, if not, maybe within a week or 10 days he will be fine.”

Fulham
Kieran Richardson, Mamadou Diarra and Sascha Riether all missed the Cottagers’ trip to Spurs due to muscle, knee and illness problems respectively. Felix Magath also confirmed Scott Parker was forced off before the hour mark after picking up a muscle problem but remains confident all four will be available for next weekend:

“We had problems before the game – injured or ill players – and had to change the team. Riether is ill so he stayed at home, Richardson tried this morning but he has a muscle problem and Diarra has knee problems. Parker took a kick on the muscle but he is confident he can play next week – I think all the players will be fine for then.”

Johnny Heitinga was also withdrawn during the game with a knock, according to the Fulham post-match report.

Hull
Shane Long was withdrawn at the break in yesterday’s loss to Arsenal with a calf complaint. Sone Aluko missed out altogether with a minor hamstring problem.

Man United
Patrice Evra missed yesterday’s trip to Everton due to a knee problem, according to the local press. Nemanja Vidic was also omitted from the matchday squad with a headache.

Newcastle
Papiss Cisse and Luuk de Jong were both forced off in the first-half of the Magpies’ home loss to Swansea with knee and ankle problems respectively. Cisse left the stadium on crutches on Saturday night, whilst de Jong sported a foot brace as the injuries continue to hamper Alan Pardew’s plans – reports in the local press this afternoon indicate that Cisse is set to miss the remainder of the season, with scans revealing he has suffered a broken knee cap which will require surgery.

Stoke
Erik Pieters lasted less than half an hour of the Potters’ trip to Cardiff before being withdrawn due to illness, Mark Hughes has confirmed.

Sunderland
Two-goal hero Connor Wickham was replaced late on in the win over Chelsea after picking up a knock.

West Ham
Guy Demel missed the Hammers’ 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace due to illness, according to reports in the local press.

I have 36 points on the bench this week. Pretty sure that's a record for me.

Want to bring in Ramsey before he rises in price but am unsure who to take out. Current team is:

    Adrian Gazzaniga
    Coleman Ward Azpi Baker Chester
    Mirallas Eriksen Mata Silva Delph
    Lukaku Aguero Suarez

Money is no issue but would prefer to have it if need be. Wait to see if Silva plays? If he's out, swap to Ramsey. If not, who to take out? Mirallas and Lukaku to make room?

I'd never take Moyes at Arsenal.

I do remember Piers Morgan calling for him at Arsenal last season though.

      Villa and Stoke for me.

Surprising as neither have had a horrific season (Stoke have done pretty well), suppose it's due to a lack of FPL options.

pretty sure..he looked really bad against Everton..I don't think he's fit and I think he's thinking about the WC..may hold off on the moves until I see if Moyes is sacked this week to see who takes over interim (like Giggsy, they'll play for him)

Rooney could well explode in the last matches and getting SAR back for the remaining games is too good to be true!

yeah but look at my mid? I'm hesitant to drop Gerrard..even if he won't do anything this gameweek, he could very well do in GW37 and 38, so who bows out? I just brought in Mata and Eriksen and Nasri are doing well as well..

Playing WC this week for one final push against ML rival... Thoughts on the below:

    Hart / Manonne
    Kos / Jones / Skertl / Bardsley / Wilson
    Mata / Nasri / Rambo / AJ / Amalfitano
    Kun / Rooney / ???

Taking out suarez for next 2 games. question is Pod or Bony. Bony got form but nothing to play for.

    Cheers

Think I will play Hart every game but keeping Manonne in case pelli suddenly drops Hart if nothing to play for.

Tim Howard on the Everton fans booing Moyes:

'We have brilliant fans, but that was unfair on him,' the Everton goalkeeper said.

'He was the second coming, the messiah 12 months ago, and I don't think as Evertonians we should ever forget that.'

'He was (a brilliant manager) here for us and I will be forever grateful to him.'

'Football is a funny game. It has highs and lows. You take the good with the bad and you keep rolling.'

Given how they also repeatedly went at Arteta (who was their saviour) in the Arsenal game and the whole Hillsborough stuff, this season hasn't shown the Everton fans in a great light.

I don't think mediocre, I think Martinez is better than Moyes certainly (I thought he'd get the United job actually) but he's heavily reliant on loan players. He'll need to solidify significantly in the Summer to ensure they maintain their challenge for the top 4 (we should maybe not forget that they could still finish 6th, same as last season).

    The Pulis Factor.

"If the table read from November 23, when Pulis took over, to now, Crystal Palace would be sat in eighth spot, with 30 points from 21 games. They would be just six points off Arsenal in seventh and would have lost just two more games than Manchester United or Spurs."

"Since he took charge only Chelsea have a better defensive record in the top flight. Pulis’ side have conceded just 18 goals in his 21 games, the same number as Everton in the same time, two less than Man City and 11 less than league-leaders Liverpool."

man city's lineup 5 years ago:

Given, Richards, Onuoha, Dunne, Bridge, Kompany, De Jong, Ireland, Elano, Robinho, Caicedo.

    probably only 1 survivor
