World Cup 2014 – Introducing FantasyiTeam

After getting our World Cup analysis underway with yesterday’s look at Brazil’s main men and Cameroon earlier today, it’s time to give you a heads-up on some of the games we’re going to be playing during the tournament. Fantasy iTeam were one of the first to swing open their doors and we’re delighted to say that we’ll be supporting their World Cup game during the summer.

FantasyiTeam is a free Fantasy football app that’s available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPodTouch and Android. It’s been around since the last World Cup and we’ve been discussing an opportunity to work with their team ever since.

With so many of you accessing this site and other apps on your mobile or tablets, the World Cup is the perfect opportunity for us to jump on board – set up a league and try the game out within the community. As mentioned, the game is up and running, nice and slick and proven over a number of seasons with a dedicated following.

Fantasy iTeam is free to download and play, you can already go in and start drafting up your starting XI with unlimited transfers and, with a £500 Amazon voucher on offer to the Fantasy Football Scout league winner, there’s no reason not to get involved.

We’ve already tinkered and set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 4915.

What’s more, the game is littered with decent prizes should you find yourself challenging at the very top. Finish first overall and you win a trip a trip of a lifetime to share with your mates, worth £5,000, whilst the highest scoring manager of every Gameround (there are seven in total) wins a £250 Amazon voucher.

The FantasyiTeam game also uses fluctuating player prices based on the transfer market, making it a wise idea to follow the movers and shakers – the team with the highest value by the end of the tournament wins another £500 Amazon voucher.

If you’ve been itching to commit to a World Cup game and you’ve got a compatible device, then there’s really no reason not to click here for the official website and download the app.

We’ll be ramping up our coverage of the game and our league over the next week or so. We’ll start by giving the Fantasy iTeam rules a good grilling, before following up with a scan of their player list for potential bargains.

Depends, if you're a United fan you think he's the bee's knees.

If you're an ABU you think he's long gone and rubbish, will just cause fights.

Realistically to me he seems like the right man for the job solely to start sorting out the ego mania in the OT dressing room.

I do hope you don't believe that Syd. Wayne Rooney being one of the biggest egos there is. The older players too. Some of the young players rank themselves very very highly too.

I don't think Rooney has an ego and if any other United player has an ego I would be very surprised. Evra possibly but he will be gone and the less said about Rio the better

See I would view Rooney as a very large ego. The likes of Young and a few others have also hit me with a sense of, just not really being arsed (which I tend to attribute to them thinking they're too big for the team, Nani a prime example). Some of the others don't seem to at all, very fond of DDG for example. But I think there are a decent number of stinking attitudes at the club.

Now Toure, 31, has said "everything is open" when it comes to his future.

“We don't know tomorrow, but my focus is on the World Cup and at the end of the World Cup we will see what happens”

Asked if he could be playing for another club, he replied: "Yes. We never know in football. We never know."

In an interview with global broadcaster beIN SPORTS, the Ivory Coast star added: "Because of the brilliant season Man City have had, everybody is talking about me and everything is open.

"My agent, Dimitri, is always on the phone and he knows what he has to do because I trust him a lot

(I've just come in from work & apologize if spoken about already, but) Interesting......

Just heard on talkSPORT that Spurs will be looking at Carlo Ancelloti's position after the Champions league final (mainly if they lose) & will be keen to take him (who wouldn't?!) If not, Pochettino will be (as we know) looked at.... & after reading quotes from Van Gaal earlier on wanting to win the title back, ManU & Spurs do look like potential fpl gold mines :-\

Also on YaYa Toure, it's sounding more & more like he may be leaving, his agent saying 50/50 being ther next year!

I do to an extent, but I also hate watching great players that I don't own go on a 50 yard solo run towards goal and waiting for the inevitable to happen.

People were certainly saying he'll be in region of 11-12m! 12.5 would be to far out of price range (can't see him being that high though) 11.5 at 'best'

Uhm why are Tim Cahill and Clint Dempsey both down as forwards in this Betfred format? Haven't seem one draft with Maxi Pereira (Ura) or Salpingidis (Gre) in them - are they not guaranteed starters does anyone know?

I wish West Ham would sack Allardyce, just so they can then be relegated and realise what a good manager hes been getting them promoted and keeping them up two seasons. Appalling behaviour from supporters.

Also, did TM have any idea about where Van Persie will be priced next season? He seems to study pricing quite in-depth. Think a front three of Suarez, Bony, Van Persie will kick-start next season nicely for me.

You can't increase your budget with FiT credits. You get 2 or 3 transfers a gameweek, with an option to purchase a bonus transfer with the credits.

apparently Kroos is very close to united move (probably BS)
    but anyway,

do you think he will fit in bpl well? (not in terms of fantasy)
he seems like slow and technical type, seems like the complete opposite of the bpl. will he just get bullied in the midfield??

This is my slight concern. Absolute quality and he ran the game against Arsenal, but is he mobile or athletic enough to cope? This is why I'd rather us (at least attempt) to sign Fabregas - similar ability, proven in the PL.

Anyway, hopefully Kroos & Vidal sign this summer if we're really lucky. Vidal will add steel and is the perfect box to box player, Kroos is all about the creativity.

He's a brilliant player, and I've no doubt he could run the show in a Premier League game at six foot tall and far from being a pushover physically. The problem is that I'm not sure he's the type of midfielder United should be splashing out on. They've already got too many number 10s, in Rooney, Mata and Kagawa, and whilst he's a more rounded playmaker than any of those, he can play a deeper, controlling role just as well. He's okay defensively, but that's not really his game - if you play him deep in a double pivot, as United would, then he needs an out and out holder next to him - a physically dominant defensive midfielder to allow him to go and play. When Bayern played him deep in a 4-2-3-1, for example, he'd stand in well for Schweinsteiger as a box to box playmaker, but playing the two together wouldn't work as well - he needed Javi Martinez or Luiz Gustavo alongside him. United don't have that kind of holding midfielder - Fellaini's a big chap, but he's a box to box player really, despite how he was used last season, and Carrick is too similar to him - though a more defensive version - but not strong enough to make up for his shortcomings. If they sign him, I think they need another defensive midfielder as well.

The aim is to replace players that have already played with ones yet to play. If you take a player out that has already scored you points you keep them. We will publish quite a few game guides over the next few weeks. Example:

Start with Diego Costa , then after he's played, take him out for Suarez. Let him play, then take him out for Messi. Do the same again, then take him out for Lukaku. You'll receive points for all 4 forwards. The main rule is that players need to be in your iTeam at least 10 minutes before kick off to register for points.
