World Cup 2014

World Cup 2014 – Introducing PlayON

We now turn our attentions to PlayON, who have just launched their new site for the World Cup at www.playon.co. The team at PlayON have been working hard behind the scenes over the past year building this new site and have launched it ahead of Thursday’s opener between Brazil and Croatia. We’re delighted to announce that we will be supporting their game over the summer:

Some of you may already be familiar with PlayON – a game powered by Opta stats that we covered over the previous domestic campaign. In this new site there are plenty of new features, with Gameweeks being run for all groups and each individual group for each round.
If you’re new to PlayON or simply require a re-cap, don’t worry. In an article tomorrow we will look at how to select your squad and also cover the rules and points scoring systems, whilst we’ll also be on hand to roll out a new Player Picks article prior to each Round’s deadline – giving you a heads-up on any potential bargains before the next batch of matches gets underway.

Crucially, PlayON differs from many other Fantasy games in that the player prices alternate in accordance with their previous displays over the tournament. This means that looking for bargains is never the same from one Round to the next – Kevin de Bruyne may be cheaper than Eden Hazard to start with, but a strong performance for Belgium’s opener with Algeria would see the former’s price rocket in time for Round 2 and perhaps force his previous owners to look elsewhere.

PlayON is also a betting exchange so you can put your money where your mouth is. There are one-on-one and multiplayer games on offer and you can also take on Ambassadors such as Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand, the Fantasy Football Scout and Opta Joe. There are also new game types and pay-out structures in the new site, as well as a leaderboard which adds together your top five Gameweek scores over the course of the World Cup, with the top finisher winning £500.

For now, though, head on over to PlayON to check out their new and improved website – you can select whichever Gameweek you want to play from in the menu in the top left. Keep any eye open over the next few days as we ramp up our coverage closer to the big kick-off.

    McDonald's game question ....

Last time you could change (c) mid round if they did not score .....does not seem clear this time. For example if Neymar does nothing on Thursday can I move captaincy to Messi in same round of games ?

This is the only confusion I have with the game at the moment. May try to contact them for a clear and concise answer.

I don't believe that is changeable once the round begins. Maybe I shouldn't have said I see things so clearly. It all is a bit murky, and it's easy to get confused again after you think you have it down. The rules seem to contradict themselves here ( I copied and pasted this from the MCDonald's rules page)

"You can change every player in your line-up that has not already played during the current round for any other relevant player in your squad that hasn’t already played. You can also change the captain as long as the new captain hasn’t already started to play.

For example if you have placed NEYMAR on Your Pitch and he did not perform as well as you expected after the first match you can replace him with a forward from your bench that hasn’t already played during the current round. You would lose the points from NEYMAR for the round but the new player might get more points."

They say you can change a player in your line-up who hasn't played for another player who hasn't played. Then, they give an example using the scenario where you can replace someone who already played with someone who hasn't.....WHAT!

If you could change Captains, you would pass it to each of your players as they participated. I can't see that happening.

      No.

JUst can't afford to go mad with expensive players. I'm seeing people with Messi and Neymar in McD's game and I have no idea how they are managing that.

£100m for 23 players is ridiculous especially when the prices are fairly similar to FPL ones.

Im not sure that Neymar is necessarily a better pick than Fred. Fred is a a very clinical goal scorer.

And with Ribery out is Benzema a better pick than Lukaka? I think the main negative to getting Lukaku in is that he has recently been injured.

Neymar and Leo are the center of the attack for their teams. They'll have many more opportunities with the ball and their teammates look for both of them when they pass. Tho, personally, I think Kun could do a job (certainly better than Fred).

Thought Kroos was nailed on as he started in 9 of the last 10 matches.

Does anyone know is the playon deadline for the world cup competition at kick off time or is it an arbitrary time to ensure no-one can check the line ups like they did with the premier league.

ozil. gotze might not start. he's in a battle with Podolski, Klose, and Schurrle for one starting spot.

    Cillessen Karnezis (1.0)
Evra Rojo VonBergen Kombarov Cholevas Medjani (1.0)
Ozil DiMaria Gerrard KDB Misimovic Valbuena Bentaleb (1.0)
    Messi Neymar Lukaku Kokorin (1.0)

How's she looking? Playing a 3-4-3 so hoping that via the sheer number of subs i get a decent score
