World Cup Dugout Discussion – Matchday One

The wait is over. The World Cup kicks off with the host nation, Brazil, facing up to regular dark horses, Croatia.

The tournament favourites lineup as expected, with the likes of David Luiz, Oscar and Paulinho the familiar names alongside Neymar – the Barcelona starlet sports the armband for Fantasy managers far and wide this evening.

The Croatians have the talent to ensure that tonight’s opener will be a cracker, although the loss of striker Mario Mandžukić to suspension for their first group match is a major blow. Hull City’s Nikica Jelavic leads the line for European side, while Šime Vrsaljko is perhaps the surprise inclusion in their lineup as Danijel Pranjić drops to the bench to make way.

Brazil: Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Luiz, Marcelo, Paulinho, Gustavo, Hulk, Oscar, Neymar, Fred.

Croatia: Pletikosa, Srna, Corluka, Lovren, Vrsaljko, Modric, Rakitic, Perisic, Kovacic, Olic, Jelavic.

      You can check your opponent but you won't know how they've scored. We still don't have team IDs in McD so I don't know how we're going to link the teams...

      You get to choose several other options at least, could even work out for you. I hope it does or I would understand why you would lose all engagement with the game. It's utter crap, if it wasn't for the uefa council game I would have ditched it a long time ago. The fact that it only opened up a week before and rules constantly changed tells me they were well behind schedule and they have skipped a large part of testing. Expect many more issues before this tournament is done

        I completely agree especially how if I wasn't involved in the tournament then I would not be doing McDonald's Fantasy. But even though its definitely not ideal I need to not cry over spilled milk and move on to the next captaincy contender and do a rain dance for a hat trick or something

    That was a ridiculous penalty. This is the World Cup, so why not let the the referees with the most experience officiate? FIFA does not seem to take World Cups seriously when they let referees from 25 different countries and leagues come and officiate these matches. Why not take all of them from the top leagues? And who cares if a referee officiates a game in which his native country plays in? Like a professional is going to be biased because of that and put his job and career at risk. Let the best referees officiate. They have this system in ice hockey - in this year's Winter Olympics the final was officiated by 3 Canadiens and one from USA and Canada played in the final. No problems.

    If McDonalds do not allow us view other teams would it be too much to ask of the hosts of the FFSWC Tournament to put them in an article? The captains could email the teams to the hosts and they could be posted then. It would allow us view our opponents team and would make it better. Would this be possible?

      Despite seeing the 23 players it still wont hive the clarity re decisions on who stays on the pitch due to daily rotation.

      If run like UCL then it site should allow visibility at the end of a round.

                    Thanks Optimus, I meant for June 17th when the Brazil game kicks off at 3 pm (it is categorized as round 2) but the Russia game kicks of at 6 pm (it is categorized as round 1)

Opta has exclusive rights and runs the database and web services that serve up all the stats for all the fantasy games (this site included, I believe), plus the press and betting sites, etc. etc...

                      Ah ok fair enough. I really hope we dont have to wait until the end of the round to find out. Would be better if we know who our opponents have when we are watching the matches. Makes it more interesting I think.
