Captain Sensible – Gameweek 2

Our Friday regular arrives as the minutes tick down until tomorrow’s deadline. We continue with a three-part approach, taking in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Gameweek poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

The Captain Poll

Chelsea dominate this week’s poll, with three of their players populating the top-four places ahead of a home encounter against promoted Leicester. Diego Costa leads the way with over 50% of the votes cast after he netted on his debut away to Burnley on Monday evening – the Spain international scored 18 of his 27 goals for Atletico Madrid at home last year and clearly offers a stronger option in front of his own fans.

Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard trail in Costa’s wake, with 14% and 6% respectively. The Spaniard’s 11-point haul at Turf Moor showed that, even when fielded in the Blues’ double-pivot, he has the ability to wreak havoc, while Hazard’s owners will be looking for the Belgian to replicate last season’s displays at the Bridge, where the Belgian scored 10 of his 14 league goals. Certainly, his owners will be looking for an improved display in the final third – Hazard, along with Fabregas, failed to register a single attempt against The Clarets.

One of the few Fantasy successes in United’s home defeat by Swansea, Wayne Rooney has been backed with the armband by 8%  ahead of a testing trip to Sunderland. With Robin van Persie reportedly set to feature at the Stadium of Light, though, Rooney’s 48% popularity in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game may be set for a drop as managers consider the 3%-owned Dutchman, who is likely to be handed spot-kicks by Louis van Gaal.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Aaron Ramsey and Raheem Sterling are all fancied to continue the form that served up a goal apiece in the opening weekend. Certainly, Sigurdsson looks the most promising of the bunch here as he prepares for a home encounter with Burnley – having averaged 5.7 points per game in his first spell with Swansea, a role in “the hole” looks vital to his prospects. Ramsey and Sterling face tougher tasks, though – trips to Everton and City are far from certain to bring home the points.

Sigurdsson’s team-mate Wilfried Bony has been overlooked. The Ivorian netted 13 times in his final 18 appearances of 2013/14 yet has so far received a mere 62 votes, whilst Sergio Aguero, as the most popular City option, has so far earned less than 1% of the votes cast and looks another differential armband option capable of delivering in style.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

This. Might as well spread the funds to get 4.5s. It's all out attack anyways and not having to worry about 4.0s not playing is better

pretty decent, I've spent exactly the same amounts as you in GK DEF MID and FW lines so you've spread your money well, but I am biased. Maybe Clyne and Kaboul is a better option than Vertonghen and Moore?

Definitely avoid Kaboul. Prime for the drop. Don't see the point in getting rid of Tadic when he's got West Brom at home even if Fab is an upgrade. It looks pretty solid think I'd save 2 for next week.

I'm concerned the arguments he had with city officials over the summer as well as the loss of a relative might be having a detrimental effect on his performances.
Though got a funny feeling to make him a (C) but I will kick myself if Costa fires good..

Conundrum I shouldn't have put myself in for GW2 but here we go -

    a. Krul v.s. Villa (A) or
    b. Mannone v.s. MUN (H)?

Leaning towards Tim Pelanty-saving-machine Krul. Can't see United messing up again that badly, even without Herrera.

Hmm interesting point Mannone got hella saves last year that's why I put him in. But then again they both made 3 last week and Krul was up against City; Mannnone West Brom - and still conceded twice.

Is the pricing system different than last year......not really....totalfpl and fiso just work off historical data from the current season....so when we saw sigurdsson 2nd price rose not go through until he reached 200% that was because there was not historical data this season for a 2nd price rise (he was the 1st) so it had to use the data from the 1st price rise. So the next person to have a 2nd price rise in the week will have that 2nd rise when they reach 100% (ish - still only sigurdssons data there for accuracy purposes) (ps this is only if your looking at totalfpl who are now using this historical data as they did last year....fiso not looking as sophisticated as totalfpl at the moment for price increases). So in my humble opinion the only real change is probably the NTI value required for an increase going up slightly....so where it might have been 75,000 for 1st increase last year it might be 90,000 this tear ....but the same rules for double/triple price increase remain the same)

Last year it was 75k per rise or whatever for all rises.
Seems like 75k, 150k then 225k for the 3rd rise in a GW

Are u sure it was level last season?.....im pretty sure it wasnt....the % remained 100% for each one but as i say...i think thats cos totalfpl adjust it accordingly for double/triple rise. If im wrong and you're 100% sure then fair enough...i appreciate last season was my 1st so i wouldnt pretend to know the full picture and historical changes.

    FT IN THE BAG..

BASED ON FIXTURES IN ALL COMPETITIONS
