Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame Updated

The current international break has allowed us time behind the scenes to update the Live Hall of Fame standings, taking into consideration the performances so far in the 2014/15 season. The Hall of Fame is a ranking system which we apply to everyone who takes part in our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-leagues – both the free and the members league. Basically, this tracks the performances of every manager over each of the seasons they have participated and awards a “HoF rating” accordingly – it’s viewable to all via this link or the top menu “HoF” link.

If you’re wondering what the Hall of Fame is all about, you can read below for a quick guide. Alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson talk you through it.

Live Hall of Fame Top 10

Ville Ronka retains his spot at the top of the Hall of Fame despite a slow start to the new season. Having finished inside the top 5,000 in each of the last six years – three times inside the top 1,000 – he leapt to the top of the Career Hall of Fame rankings in our summer update but currently sits just outside the top 400,000 in the 2014/15 campaign with 157 points. After opting for a 3-5-2 formation in each of the last two Gameweeks, he’sdecided to activate his wildcard and restructure his 15-man squad ahead of Gameweek 4.

Site moderator Evs moves from third in the Career HoF up to second in the Live update. Having ended four of the last five seasons inside the top 10,000 – including a fifth place finish in 2012/13 – he’s off to a solid start and sits around the 75,000-mark with his wildcard still firmly intact.

Rasmus Sandman slips down to third in the Live update. Having ended the previous three campaigns inside the top 1,000, he sits on 170 points so far – enough for a 135,000 rank – after taking a points hit heading into Gameweek 3.

A non-mover in fourth position is Kenneth Tang. Having ended inside the top 1,000 in five of the last eight season, he carries some serious consistency into the new campaign and sits on 183 points so far, around the 27,000 mark. Intriguingly, he has decided to overlook Aaron Ramsey so far and, like Rasmus, has already taken a points hit.

Nick moves from sixth to fifth after starting the season with 189 points from the first three Gameweeks. Sitting around the 11,000 mark so far, he’s decided to activate his wildcard in order to freshen up his squad – after ending inside the top 2,000 in each of the last four seasons, he clearly knows what he’s doing.

Matthew Jones climbs from 18th in the Career HoF up to sixth in the Live update after kicking off the season with 187 points. He finished just outside the top 1,000 last year and also has a couple of top 500 places in the last four years – he’s opted for Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa as part of his starting XI.

In seventh spot is another climber. Derek Simpson moves up from 15th spot in Career after serving up 184 points in the first three rounds of fixtures – he’s already made a couple of transfers this week as he looks for a sixth finish inside the top 5,000 in eight seasons.

Sir Edo Nygren is also on the rise. Shifting from 12th to eighth position in the HoF, he’s made just one transfer so far – Bojan to Steven Naismith – and is the only one of our top 10 to opt for a more than two pricey defenders, with John Terry, Mathieu Debuchy and Dejan Lovren all taking their place in his 15-man squad. He currently sits on 178 points, just outside the top 50,000 mark.

Utkarsh Dalmia is off to a flier with 189 points on the board already. Intriguingly, he’s opted for a 3-5-2 formation and placed his faith firmly in United – Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie all started
for him against Burnley, though he’s since made another transfer, which may well see Diego Costa return to his squad immediately.

David Meechan slips from eighth to tenth after opening the season with 158 points in the first three Gameweeks. Four successive top 10,000 finishes indicate his calibre, and despite a relatively slow start, he’s already made six transfers – three this week alone – as he looks to scramble back up the rankings.

Elsewhere in the Live HoF update, the 2012/13 FPL winner Matt Martyniak sits in 30th position after kicking off the season with 165 points. Matt is another Fantasy manager to have activated his wildcard over the first international break, with many new arrivals looking tempting alternatives to the likes of Rooney up top. Our very own Jonty is tucked in just behind Matt in 32nd spot as he searches for a fourth successive finish in the top 5,000.

Defending champion Tom Fenley sits in 686th spot in the Live rankings after opening the season with 171 points, whilst another former champion, Jon Reeson, is placed in 2007th spot – he’s acrrued 168 points over the opening three Gameweeks of 2014/15.

Analysing the Top Ten

Further assessment of the top ten shows that Tim Krul and Ben Foster are the most popular stoppers, with both sitting in five teams, though only two Fantasy managers have the duo on board. Interestingly, only four of the top ten opted for rotating keepers – the rest picked a starter and a 4.0 option – while just two decided on a keeper with a price tag greater than 4.5.

In defence, Hull’s James Chester is the most popular pick and has earned the nod from six of the top ten. Alan Hutton and Andre Wisdom’s starting price of 4.0 persuaded five managers to snap them up, whilst John Terry and Mathieu Debuchy have been the mid-to-premium defenders of choice.

In midfield, Gylfi Sigurdsson is the one constant – the Swansea midfielder is one of only two players to be selected by all ten. Aaron Ramsey (nine), Cesc Fabregas (seven) and Juan Mata (six) were next in line, while Raheem Sterling and Eden Hazard, along with Burnley’s bench-warming budget option Dean Marney have all found a place in four of the 15-man squads.

Up top, Wayne Rooney mirrors Sigurdsson’s popularity and is the only frontman residing in all ten teams. Diego Costa currently resides in seven teams though it’s telling that the three managers who went into Gameweek 3 without the Chelsea striker all sold him prior to the deadline due to the doubts hanging over his availability. City’s Stevan Jovetic was the next most popular striker, with four managers snapping up his services. Furthermore, only four of the ten managers in our assessment has a budget striker on board, with the remainder investing more heavily in their front three.

In accordance with the top ten squads, then, the template amongst our most successful Fantasy managers is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Foster/Krul
Defenders: Chester, Hutton, Wisdom, Terry, (Debuchy, Chambers, N Taylor, Van Aanholt)
Midfielders: Sigurdsson, Ramsey, Fabregas, Mata (Sterling, Hazard, Marney)
Forwards: Rooney, Costa, Jovetic

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 70% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2013/14 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2006/07. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow to rank alongside the veterans of the FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code will available on the dashboard of the Members Area once the FPL game re-opens for registration.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL id.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the Fantasy Football Scout league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated every week to use the latest season data.

Not sure. I'm definitely keeping Rooney. If he drops, at least that means he is more of a differential when he scores a brace

On a serious point though, waiting and seeing will be tough. All we know for sure is that as the weekend appoaches, there will be a frenzy of contradictory rumours and opinions to sift through.

Many of us sold Costa last week by waiting and seeing, while friends in my mini league didn't even know he was a doubt, and captained him.

Ignorance is bliss at times, I suppose.

    Who would you pick?

    A. Clyne; attacking potential, assist potential, price rise coming, 0.1 more expensive which could be of importance in other transfers..

    B. Alderweireld; if plays as a CB, bp potential, good in headers, nice attacking stats as well from other leagues, no price rise potential in the short term, quality player in all

    C. Bertrand; cheaper than Clyne, but looks to be playing even higher, but weak attacking stats in the past (due to former team?)

    Thanks!

      • 9 Years

i have clyne but have had him from beginning, i sill think he is the one who will score most points overall to be honest, between him and alderweireld but just purely for the 0.1 which like you say in the long run could be the difference between getting a top striker or not

      1. Winston.
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 10 Years

Clyne seems to be the popular choice, but I wouldn't expect too many goals from Clyne, maybe assists...and yes, that 0.1 could make a difference in other transfers...on the otherhand Alderweireld's price won't rise before he makes a goal..

    2. andyinasia
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 9 months ago

Bertrand has very strong stats on passes in the final third and crosses - I think he'll be very close to Clyne in points at the end of the season and both are nailed on. If that0.1 makes a material difference to your other transfers, go for Bertie. Alders will prolly be excellent but we haven't seen him yet so I wouldn't put him straight in.

      1. Winston.

Thanks for your comments! Just tempted by Alderweireld, 4 goals in 36 matches in the past, 0.6 shots and 0.6 key passes per game as well as the bp potential as a CB..Southampton could even more clean sheets this season than last season, when the number was 15.. But maybe you're right, Clyne is the safest choice and Bertrand not a bad one either...

I think Southampton will have another excellent season defensively. Also is on my watchlist and I wouldn't be shy of doubling up on Soton defenders later on if they prove themselves.

Keep C - Clyne if you have him.

Not sure how good A - Alderweireld will adjust to new style in new league. Riskier than B - Bertrand.

B for me, you can keep Mata vs QPR and change to Siggy / Tadic next week once you know how United are going to set up. Siggy is playing Chelsea this week anyway. (Dunno how close Mata is to a price drop though)

Looks fine going into the next gw but would it leave you any cash? I think a 3-4-3 is going to be the obvious choice once we get a few clear choices from City / United / Pool / Welbeck. And the 3 strikers would be more reliable than Tadic imo who does look promising but can he deliver every week?

Up to you. I'm not entirely convinced by either. Basically I think you need to do Ince + Mata + Jut > Boyd/King + Siggy + 3rd striker. Just think that the Mata > Siggy move can wait till next week. Maybe keep Naismith + ££ till you can find a replacement?

Is FFS covering Sun Dream Team this year (I presume not as I can't find any articles on it!)? Does anyone know any other good sites for hints and tips for it please? Thanks

      Google probably your best bet.

With the changes in price rises/falls, is this going to effect the balance of team values in the game. Just checked the fallers and risers for this week, and there is A LOT more fallers. Will we have a situation where the average team value is like 95 mil by the end of the year?

No. Teams won't be 110+ like last season though.

That's what I thought originally, but the balance is pretty crazy this year.

Total rises so far this week - 1.3 M

        Total falls - 7.9

I doubt the average team value will be low since by definition the fallers aren't gaining you points. However, the best teams will have team values far lower than last year. What might happen is that if you don't have money in the bank you'll find it harder to make transfers since the ones you want to shift out will have fallen in value, and the longer you hold onto them the further they fall.

I'd say pretty good. After Chelsea shipped 3 goals last weekend Moanie will need to tighten up and FLuis is a good defender. I expect him to start in the EPL soon too.

If he starts he'd be a bargain at 5.0 in Champions League Fantasy, I might just take a punt on him.

Who's your fifth midfielder...Naismith could be rested in some games, but not yet. I would say B for short term, but think that Tadic will come good and expect him to do well this season. Tadic is a good long term buy.

Currently playing about with my WC. What are your thoughts on this 3-5-2?

            Krul (Elliot)
            Ivan Moreno Clyne (Wisdom Hutton)
            Mirallas Sterling Ramsey Siggy Fab
            Balotelli Costa (Sanogo/5.0)

            A) Mirallas
            B) Naismith

Baines/Coleman + Ivan is wayy too much to spend on your defence. Sanogo is a waste with Welbeck in the team and Theo returning (Should put Sanchez up top if not Welbeck). Naismith from that lot, Mirallas isn't consistent enough with FPL returns

True enough though it might be the best thing to happen to him. That front 3 have looked slow and lazy, now arguably all of them could face the bench at some point, might liven things up.
