Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame Updated

The current international break has allowed us time behind the scenes to update the Live Hall of Fame standings, taking into consideration the performances so far in the 2014/15 season. The Hall of Fame is a ranking system which we apply to everyone who takes part in our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-leagues – both the free and the members league. Basically, this tracks the performances of every manager over each of the seasons they have participated and awards a “HoF rating” accordingly – it’s viewable to all via this link or the top menu “HoF” link.

If you’re wondering what the Hall of Fame is all about, you can read below for a quick guide. Alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson talk you through it.

Live Hall of Fame Top 10

Ville Ronka retains his spot at the top of the Hall of Fame despite a slow start to the new season. Having finished inside the top 5,000 in each of the last six years – three times inside the top 1,000 – he leapt to the top of the Career Hall of Fame rankings in our summer update but currently sits just outside the top 400,000 in the 2014/15 campaign with 157 points. After opting for a 3-5-2 formation in each of the last two Gameweeks, he’sdecided to activate his wildcard and restructure his 15-man squad ahead of Gameweek 4.

Site moderator Evs moves from third in the Career HoF up to second in the Live update. Having ended four of the last five seasons inside the top 10,000 – including a fifth place finish in 2012/13 – he’s off to a solid start and sits around the 75,000-mark with his wildcard still firmly intact.

Rasmus Sandman slips down to third in the Live update. Having ended the previous three campaigns inside the top 1,000, he sits on 170 points so far – enough for a 135,000 rank – after taking a points hit heading into Gameweek 3.

A non-mover in fourth position is Kenneth Tang. Having ended inside the top 1,000 in five of the last eight season, he carries some serious consistency into the new campaign and sits on 183 points so far, around the 27,000 mark. Intriguingly, he has decided to overlook Aaron Ramsey so far and, like Rasmus, has already taken a points hit.

Nick moves from sixth to fifth after starting the season with 189 points from the first three Gameweeks. Sitting around the 11,000 mark so far, he’s decided to activate his wildcard in order to freshen up his squad – after ending inside the top 2,000 in each of the last four seasons, he clearly knows what he’s doing.

Matthew Jones climbs from 18th in the Career HoF up to sixth in the Live update after kicking off the season with 187 points. He finished just outside the top 1,000 last year and also has a couple of top 500 places in the last four years – he’s opted for Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa as part of his starting XI.

In seventh spot is another climber. Derek Simpson moves up from 15th spot in Career after serving up 184 points in the first three rounds of fixtures – he’s already made a couple of transfers this week as he looks for a sixth finish inside the top 5,000 in eight seasons.

Sir Edo Nygren is also on the rise. Shifting from 12th to eighth position in the HoF, he’s made just one transfer so far – Bojan to Steven Naismith – and is the only one of our top 10 to opt for a more than two pricey defenders, with John Terry, Mathieu Debuchy and Dejan Lovren all taking their place in his 15-man squad. He currently sits on 178 points, just outside the top 50,000 mark.

Utkarsh Dalmia is off to a flier with 189 points on the board already. Intriguingly, he’s opted for a 3-5-2 formation and placed his faith firmly in United – Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie all started
for him against Burnley, though he’s since made another transfer, which may well see Diego Costa return to his squad immediately.

David Meechan slips from eighth to tenth after opening the season with 158 points in the first three Gameweeks. Four successive top 10,000 finishes indicate his calibre, and despite a relatively slow start, he’s already made six transfers – three this week alone – as he looks to scramble back up the rankings.

Elsewhere in the Live HoF update, the 2012/13 FPL winner Matt Martyniak sits in 30th position after kicking off the season with 165 points. Matt is another Fantasy manager to have activated his wildcard over the first international break, with many new arrivals looking tempting alternatives to the likes of Rooney up top. Our very own Jonty is tucked in just behind Matt in 32nd spot as he searches for a fourth successive finish in the top 5,000.

Defending champion Tom Fenley sits in 686th spot in the Live rankings after opening the season with 171 points, whilst another former champion, Jon Reeson, is placed in 2007th spot – he’s acrrued 168 points over the opening three Gameweeks of 2014/15.

Analysing the Top Ten

Further assessment of the top ten shows that Tim Krul and Ben Foster are the most popular stoppers, with both sitting in five teams, though only two Fantasy managers have the duo on board. Interestingly, only four of the top ten opted for rotating keepers – the rest picked a starter and a 4.0 option – while just two decided on a keeper with a price tag greater than 4.5.

In defence, Hull’s James Chester is the most popular pick and has earned the nod from six of the top ten. Alan Hutton and Andre Wisdom’s starting price of 4.0 persuaded five managers to snap them up, whilst John Terry and Mathieu Debuchy have been the mid-to-premium defenders of choice.

In midfield, Gylfi Sigurdsson is the one constant – the Swansea midfielder is one of only two players to be selected by all ten. Aaron Ramsey (nine), Cesc Fabregas (seven) and Juan Mata (six) were next in line, while Raheem Sterling and Eden Hazard, along with Burnley’s bench-warming budget option Dean Marney have all found a place in four of the 15-man squads.

Up top, Wayne Rooney mirrors Sigurdsson’s popularity and is the only frontman residing in all ten teams. Diego Costa currently resides in seven teams though it’s telling that the three managers who went into Gameweek 3 without the Chelsea striker all sold him prior to the deadline due to the doubts hanging over his availability. City’s Stevan Jovetic was the next most popular striker, with four managers snapping up his services. Furthermore, only four of the ten managers in our assessment has a budget striker on board, with the remainder investing more heavily in their front three.

In accordance with the top ten squads, then, the template amongst our most successful Fantasy managers is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Foster/Krul
Defenders: Chester, Hutton, Wisdom, Terry, (Debuchy, Chambers, N Taylor, Van Aanholt)
Midfielders: Sigurdsson, Ramsey, Fabregas, Mata (Sterling, Hazard, Marney)
Forwards: Rooney, Costa, Jovetic

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 70% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2013/14 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2006/07. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow to rank alongside the veterans of the FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code will available on the dashboard of the Members Area once the FPL game re-opens for registration.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL id.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the Fantasy Football Scout league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated every week to use the latest season data.

    DDG - Gilks
    Debuchy - Cahill - Chester - Clyne - Dummet
    Siggy - Ramsey - Eriksen - Sterling - Marney
    Costa - Rooney - Fletcher
    (2.4 ITB) 0FT

Any changes I should make for this Gw? Should I take a hit or two to bring in a premium striker like Ade for Fletcher? Or should I do that next GW?

    Thanks 😀

What's the worst/most intense rivalry in football in your opinion?

Beyond the obvious United/Liverpool, Barca/Madrid, Milan/Inter, I was recently watching some videos on Galatasaray/Fenerbache and holy **** does it look insane. Really opened my eyes to how crazy rivalries can become - beyond any of the more famous ones. Celtic/Rangers of course another. As is Roma/Lazio, West Ham/Millwall more locally.

Why do you think some rivalries get more out of hand than others?

Don't get much more intense than Sunderland/Newcastle.

This rivalry goes way beyond football ...it's related to history, oppression, country divides and migration and then some football

and as sad as it is, if you're ever in or around the stadium during this, just pray that there is no fight between fans...it's always so brutal

No no..nothing in cricket. Not even in football in general.

It's just the match between these 2 teams which often lead to hooliganism and occasional violence

Some get more out of hand due to additional elements on each side, like religion in the Old Firm. Others are just down to bored, angry people looking for someone to hate.

i have often wondered as well how new fans to the sport also always pick up on rivalries. for example, with united/liverpool - in my lifetime liverpool have hardly ever been a threat with united winning things almost every year, but yet 'new' united fans will absolutely despise liverpool more than the clubs who do actually beat them (chelsea, arsenal, city). as someone without prior history, surely you would hate the ones competing directly with you more?

I would probably argue that Celtic Rangers is one of the most famous football rivalries.I would probably put it down as the worst cos it stems from religious sectarianism.

River Plate and Boca Juniors is another insane rivarly

Yeah, my girlfriends brother is German and her family go over twice a year. They have a festival called schützenfest which ends in silly amounts of beer as well which I'm hoping to be around for next time. Her family are coming here next month so will be showing them around where I live. (Manchester and Liverpool)

Thought it was funny in most places you asked for beer as opposed to a brand, though when you did have an option it was usually just a couple.

Yes, they have very localized brands. They don't expand which I think is good and keep them different from others. Even in Oktoberfest they don't have many brewers

Maybe it will get changed but for the moment it's the way it is. Each link would need checking. Banning someone isn't something that gets done lightly. It works both ways, it stops trolls but doesn't help those who use it properly. The one technique of asking the question normally got a few replies. Being votes for hidden posters, some could just try to even the voting. You now get the posters visual vote.

Would you guys recommend taking hits early in the season just to get the form players early?

I have two free transfers and don't want to play my wildcard.

Is Debuchy, Terry, Caulker and Rooney to Moreno, Ivanovic, Clyne and Naismith for a minus 8 madness?

Or shall i settle for a boring Debuchy to Moreno and save the other transfer?

    1. TheCurseOfRaheem

I've had enough. The new price system had taken the fun out of the game. From now on just expect the following
GW4: X scores the most points
GW5: everyone transfers in X because they can afford him
GW5: Y scores the most points
GW6: everyone transfers in Y because they can afford him

    repat until GW38

The price change sites still get some right. Not that much has changed outside of the data being kept by FPL instead of being used by the price change sites. They will get better with time.

How many times a day do you moan about this? Must be at least 3.

Anyway, the idea that chasing points is the optimal strategy is the most casual thing I've ever heard.

You only get 1 transfer a week, there is usually more than one big scorer per week.
You may pick the wrong one, or worse remove a better player from your squad and miss his brace the next week...while your new player gets 2 points.
You have to identify which big scores were a fluke or once off.
You don't always have a player in your squad at a comparable price (Ivanovic, Aguero, Sturridge, Hazard all come to mind as being above average)...so a 1 for 1 swap might not be possible.

And all of the above is ignoring the fact that doing no transfer at all can sometimes be the best move.

      1. Kalix
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 12 Years

Chasing team value is also not the only FPL strategy out there (not even a very good one imo).

Now every can get back to playing for the most points.

    Costa, Naismith (Jovetic)

    I was thinking:
    Chester out, Shawcross in.
    Silva out, Cheapie in
    Jovetic out, Aguero in

Are these good moves or are there any other changes I have missed.

Hi all, any thoughts on my team for week 4, I may have a problem with injuries on Foster, Dier and Costa, but hoping my bench will not be required

    Foster
    Debuchy, Dier, Lovren
    Sigurdsson, Fábregas, Sterling V, Ramsey
    Adebayor, Diego Costa C, Balotelli

    Bench
    Krul, Wisdom, Mikel, Dummett

Nice team! Keep an eye on Costa but if he's fit I'd look to do the unglamourous Dummett > Moore or something similar.

Jovetic, Blind and Chambers should not be picked in either team. Although Courtois and Begovic is a ridiculous amount to be spending on keepers.

Jovetic is a rotation risk and may have picked up an injury (we'll have to wait for more news). Welbeck is not a bad replacement. Zaha/Siggy for Blind and Naylor for Chambers.

My favorite team of my two is...

                    QB: Brees, Dalton

                    TE: Davis, Witten, Ebron
                    D: Saints

Paid a heavy price for getting Brees. your wr's are weak

The defence could be a good sleeper pick. but I doubt it

Not a patch on mine in a 12 team league.

Hilton and Cooks will outscore all but a handful of WRs this season. And my Saints added the best safety in football to an already top 5 D. 😎
