Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 7

Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Used fantrax (american site for most sports) last year. Draft was great and the point scoring could be modified to be similar to FPL, just never got into it though..

So looking at Wilson > Baines to give the below. Good to go barring injuries?

    Lloris

    Baines Bertrand Kompany

    Fabregas ADM Sterling Siggy

    Costa Pelle Welbeck

    Subs: Krul Naylor Wisdom Cork

Nice, realised mine is around the same but I've Aguero whose price weakens my defence and goalkeepers.

You've got a very nice balance, if the cheaper forwards keep scoring it seems perfect.

    A) Ivanovic -> Baines with FT
    B) Caulker/Henderson -> Baines/Gutierrez -4
    C) Caulker/Sigurdsson -> Baines Boyd

One of Henderson or Siggy on the bench then, with Moore as my 3rd defender over Caulker and Ward.

I think Baines is too important to have to ignore.

I'm glad you said that. I was starting to have regrets over my decision to pick Ramsey instead of Pelle in my Draft league, as now I have Ramsey-Gerrard in midfield but all the good strikers are gone.

        My Team Currently:

        DDG
        Terry-Bertrand-Wisdom-Taylor-Moore
        Siggy-Fabregas-Sterling-Tadic-JWP
        Costa Aguero Welbs

I would remove Terry, Tadic and JWP and bring in Hutton, ADM and Wanyama(as a filler)

Worth the 12 point hit or no? I feel ADM is pretty essential really but dunno if its worth taking a 12 point hit.

No way. I am not considering him yet. He's still a differential but there are quite a few players who can get you a probable equal amount of points for less. Get him in yes, but wait and do the transfers for free.
Pelle is looking great and just blanked to Spurs away which doesn't mean much. His next 5 are:
          SUN
          STO

                        🙂

My family are/were in the trade, I worked retail from the early 80's before working with Oddbins for 10 years. Wine & Whisky were my thing - followed closely by beer, armagnac, fortified wines......
In the 80's we sold every blend I think that was our there Haigs, Dewars, Ballantines & the old names just stuck with me. 🙂

You can keep Dier since it looks like Naughton will be out for a while. Pieters > Chambers/Tomkins looks good. I'm sure you know that Chambers is suspended for the next GW though, but I can see why you'd get him in now with 2FT. Also consider Moreno > Baines.

Dzeko's getting a hammering in the comments section here. It might be that I'm blinded by my bad experiences as an Aguero owner (dodgy hammies) and a non Dzeko owner (see: Aguero dodgy hammies) last season... but is he that bad an option as a route into the City team?

He's looked dangerous these last few weeks, and with Jovetic still some way off fitness and Aguero flying all over the world during this break, I'm thinking Dzeko will at least get a shot at cementing that first team place over the next couple of weeks.

    Or am I mad, bru?

He's a horrible player to own; never starts/scores when I have him, delivers when I dont! At least with Aguero I feel like I'm living dangerously!

lol, fair. But how about this:

        - Dzeko had a higher threat rating than aguero this week despite not scoring any points (84 to 73) and second for threat overall (only to Cisse's 109).
        - Dzeko's had 21 shots this season so far... fifth overall (Aguero 25, Pelle/Balo 23, Costa 22). 17 of those were inside the box, fourth overall (Aguero/Pelle/Costa 20).
        - Aguero's shot accuracy this season is consistent with last (48 this to 48.8 last) whereas Dzeko's performing within himself (19 to last season's 36.9).

He's also played exactly 15 fewer minutes than Aguero - hardly massive (though I appreciate that Aguero started the season with a knock)

So it looks like he's due then! All I know is that I had him from the start as he seemed a good value route into City attack. I then watched everyone else score around him....could only take it so long! That seems to be the story whenever I've owned hopim they last few years. Hope he treats you better tho!

Sure. Well Villa can be your captain for the first ten weeks, he will be mine.
You can try looking at percentage of teams with each player - good grasp of who is popular. All team reviews are coming out this week and obviously lineups will bring a lot of info.

As a help my attack is currently
            Broich, Flores, McGlinchey, Mooy
            Villa, Ibini

And defence is a worry as anyone can beat anyone in ALeague and clean sheets are hard to pick. So will likely go with the cheapest starters at the back...

                option 5 is w/ 0 itb! 🙂 no chance of chambo/bert for 4.0

i was also leaning option 4 as all 5 are efficient, but option 2 is the one im now leaning w aspi-bertrand and hutton has excellent fixtures.

option 1 w/ kaboul u dont like? surs have very fav fixtures also.

op1 is cool but Saints have 2 home matches next... Lack of Bert.

im now only btn option 2 or option 3 w double saints or option 4 which is the 5 well rounded def.

I am a Lovren owner, I know how you are feeling.

1 clean sheet in 7 games is poor, plenty of teams have had 3 cleanies from 7.

Lovren has been making critical mistakes in almost every game lately, he's lucky he hasn't been dropped.

Even though it's QPR, I think they'll score vs Liverpool

    or

I can get Aguero for Falco if I drop Moreno for a 4.4er deender or less

or just upgrade one of my 3.9 defenders (I have 2) to a 4.90 and ride the wave out while chambers is suspended... any thoughts?

with chambers suspended you don't even have 3 defenders to play this week

Yes indeed Was getting Moore in for one of them

Think I'll keep Falcao another week, get Moore for a 3.9 lad and be done with it...

Pool have QPR next who can't score against an under 12's team so Moore in for a 3.9 is the best way I think

Posted this Sunday but was quickly lost on the pages, thought it might be worth a repost:

    Sakho vs Ulloa

    Sakho:

    + 11 outta 14 good games until gwk 22
+ scored against big teams (Utd/Pool)
+ scored 39 in 69 games last two seasons
    + 5.5m starting price currently
    + 4 goals in 5 starts

    - can West Ham continue scoring 2 goals a game on average?
    - African Cup Of Nations absentee

    Ulloa

+ focal point of a progressive Leicester team who have shown they can hold their own
+ has scored well with some excellent finishers thus far showing his quality
+ Leicester have a good run of 6 games
    + Scored against big teams

    - Leicester play away 3 outta the next 4 away & haven't done as well barring a victory at Jekyll team Stoke.
    - Poor form last two games for Ulloa
    - Wasn't prolific in the championship

Nice little comparison. I'd pick Sakho of the two, Ulloa does a lot better with Nugent in the side as opposed to Vardy.

However, with Costa/Kun/Falcao(?)/Pelle/Welbeck around, I don't see why anyone would have a cheap third striker.

        I'm going 3-5-2.

        Bego Gilks
        Bardsley Ivanovic Wilson Hutton Wisdom
Sterling Walcott Fabregas Di Maria Sigurdsson
        Welbeck Sakho Costa 1.3m bank

atm Wally is Ramsey, triple Stoke will have to be moved soon...1 hit so far this year & 47k, winning my minileague. Hard to justify Aguero/Sturridge/Falcao over value strikers atm.

Both are pretty good options really, it's a coin toss with the cheap attackers!

African cup of nations doesnt start til Jan 17th. You're in WC territory then, so I wouldnt see it as a much of a minus against Sakho at this stage. West Ham look like a decent attacking outfit too. All in all, a lot more positives for Sakho than Ulloa there. Cheers for the break down analysis

Good question ... don't really know. They were actually pretty reasonable against Liverpool and Gamboa will likely become first choice ... but Wisdom has done nothing wrong!

        Yap. Gamboa is just better.
