Versus – Baines and Coleman

After scaling the heights of fifth place in their first season under Roberto Martinez, Everton have so far failed to find their form. The Toffees sit in seventeenth spot – just two points off the basement – but are poised for an excellent upcoming schedule which many expect will enable them to quickly climb back up the table.

Understandably, Fantasy managers are eyeing up Leighton Baines ahead of a run which pits the Merseysiders against just three of last season’s top eight in the forthcoming 13 Gameweeks. Given that the Toffees have managed just a single clean sheet so far, though, defensive returns may be hard to come by unless they can tighten up considerably.

With team-mate Seamus Coleman looking poised for an imminent return to action, we analyse the pair’s displays so far and compare them to the performances which harvested 169 and 180 points respectively in the 2013/14 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

What's wrong with Sterling! When I was his age I used to play 5 games a week. Kids these days!
Ands some of those games lasted more than 90 mins and there wasn't even 11 players on each team

Also on my FIFA, some of those players play about 20-30 matches in 1 day and they don't complain

Sums up these tattooed moneymade players we have nowadays.
National team is there to get little rest from club.

But hey wait when they get to world cup or euros, everyone wants to play then - it's a great window for better contracts.

I have 2FT, and figure I should spend one or it is wasted. Only I have nothing I really need to do:

    Heaton - McCarthy
    Ivanovic - Clyne - Baines - Duff - Wisdom
    AdM - Sterling - Siggy - Hazard - Boyd
    Welbeck - Costa - Pelle

    0.2 ITB

All I can think of is to trade one of Heaton, Duff or Wisdom sideways.

Alternatively, I could do a 0.7 downgrade somewhere, and then go Pelle/Haz > Aguero/Chadli next week.

    Any thoughts?

    Mannone, Krul
    cahill, PVA, Wilson, Colo, Rio
    Hazard, ADM, Sterling, Eriksen, Marney
    Costa, Pelle, Jelavic

    1 FT and 0.3 ITB

    which is better?

    A. Jelavic > Berahino
    B. Eriksen > Chadli
    C. Jelavic, Eriksen > Berahino, Chadli (-4). next GW: Rio > Bertrand/Kaboul

      I would save this week.
Both A and B are pointless, selling in-form players.

And since you anyway don't have Siggy, just hope the next two gameweeks br good for you before his difficult fixtures arrive.

I played my WC decided to take the approach of starting as many dream team guys as I coulkd get. This = 10 starters Baines is the only non DTer.

Bench is Mannone, Welbeck, Catterole and Wislon. How will this fare? I'm optimistic.

Hello, DZ. Been a nice, little break here helping me complete some of my pending work.

Now. I had planned to WC this weekend, but then, as I started making the changes, my poor TV meant I couldn't havr Baines and a nice front 8 at the same time. No point using a WC just to sort your defence, right?

Now, I am in limbo. Did Diouf ➡ Welbeck on a free, and that's it.

    I have something like.

    Begovic, (Hamer),
    Moreno, Clyne, Coloccini, (PVA, Hutton),
    Sterling, Tadic, ADM, Sigurdsson, (Davis),
    Welbeck, ©osta, Aguero.

I would honestly want to sell my entire defence bar Clyne, and yeah, not too convcinced about Tadic either.
But is any change really worth a hit?

    Please help. 😉

Would Moreno -> Moore and Tadic -> Chadli give you a chance for Baines later?

      1. Saniul

Really want to give Tadic a chance. Just bought him last week, and err, that wasn't the easiest fixture.

And if I really do Moreno ➡ Moore, then the only defence I can upgrade Baines to, will be Clyne. Not the player I want to sell, really.

          Clyne is great value.

But if you check the fixtures for the next 6 games who is likely to do better? And getting Clyne back wouldn't be a problem of course ...

man, I'm holding Tadic 1 more week, but I hear you. He's a stud on the field just not in the pts. + no pens so far. He's my one indulgence. wanna switch to Hendo at 6.0 if I give up.

Yeah you really have to think that with those fixtures, the fact that he's on all set pieces and with his underlying stats he has to deliver soon. I'm keeping him for at least two more weeks, unless his underlying stats worsen significantly I'll probably keep him longer.

    3. JasonG123

The defence is a lottery, I probably wouldn't do anything this week. Next week maybe Moreno to Baines and Tadic to Chadli if you can afford it.

De Gea, Given, Lovren, Clyne, N Taylor, Kaboul, Duff, Fabregas, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Wanyama, Mata, Costa, Balotelli, Ulloa – 3.1m in the bank. Thoughts on what I could do this week?

    A - Lovren & Balotelli > Mangala/Mert& Aguero
    B - Lovren & Ulloa > Baines & Welbeck
    C - 1 transfer with no hit?

    1. JasonG123
      • 10 Years

I would probably take the hit since you'll want to transfer out Balo, Ulloa and Lovren next week anyway. Either A or B looks good.

      Balotelli -> Aguero (no hit)

Reason: Liverpool off the pace plus Sturridge returning to take lions share of attacking pts. Aguero has good stats, getting game time and should get good pts over coming games

Good idea. I am replacing my G as well, but the math just doesn't work if I take Forster. I'd have to step up my D spending to at least the 6.0 range and then, I might as well go 7.0 or up! I just don't like the 6.0 choices enough to justify it. This way I can get the double coverage and also get some nice G coverage too.

Personally I'm not keen on 2 defenders from same team especially if you're only playing three at the back? It's a sink or swim job, looks fantastic when it comes off and very grim when it doesn't! Plus side is that even if they don't keep the cleanie, you've always the chance of assist pts.

I'm hoping for a Ulloa double myself! 🙂

I am gonna roll the dice and pickup an ice cold goalie for this week as I believe it is time for them to turn the corner and pickup where they left off last year.

              Good luck to you though!

Well, Baines is coming in regardless, just who goes to help the move....
    Fabregas > Chadli
    Or
    Sterling > Henderson?

Others mids are Siggy & ADM

I am uncertain whether to do Pelle to Welbeck for free this week or save transfer. I have a feeling that this move has to be done at some point anyway but it feels a little sideways. What do you think?

    1. The Hound

I wouldn't be taking Pelle out at this point.

    2. Crystal

Save the transfer if that's the most pressing issue. Pelle is bang in form, no reason to take him out

I see you point. But since they have pretty much the same chance of scoring this week I start to think that it is better to save since a lot can happen over a GW in fantasy football.

I would think Benteke will be starting this week, no? The manager said he won't be nursing him back into the lineup I believe and since he already has made an appearance and had another 2 weeks to train, I'd think he's ready to be unleashed this weekend. Here's hoping at least.

I'm thinking adm will not keep up his output against the run of better sides. Unless I get an injury I think it's him making way for Walcott. I don't even care if Walcott only gets 20 mins.

I know it sounds crazy but there's a right time to jump on/ off a player. The question is how gradually will Walcott be eased back in. 3 10 minute appearances obviously wouldn't be much good but 10 followed by 30 then 60 would be different.

My guess is 10, followed by a start of 65, then who knows.

@Squawka: At this stage last season Raheem Sterling had played 211 minutes in the Premier League. This season, he's notched up 553 minutes. #LFC

    - He's human. Just because he's 19 does not mean he cannot suffer from fatigue! If he's tired rest him. I'm struggling to understand those who think shouldn't tire.

In that case I'll worry about getting Baines in this week.

Focus on getting Walcott the weeks after.
