The ScoutCast – Episode 139 – Essential

Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Rooney missed two didn't rvp get them and vice versa
If Aguero missed two in a row I reckon Yaya would get the nod

          1. The Finnisher
            • 12 Years

Rooney missed more than 2, he's not a great penalty taker.

Aguero is a bit of a different situation, Yaya has shown he's capable of converting all his penalties, only Lukaku has taken penalties before and I recall him missing a few.

Plus, it's purely hypothetical and not worth even thinking about until it actually happens.

I think RVP was given them flat out once he joined United, can't remember though.

As far as Aguero and Baines, I think it would be worse for their confidence to strip them as long-standing penalty takers just for a few misses than it would be to give them that third chance.

you do know that Everton had arguably the toughest start in the Premier League so far and so their defensive 'frailty' is a fallacy?

of their 7 PL games 5 were away and they've already played Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and United

Is it WC next week for you? I'd punt on the 1st one of so. Can't see Chadli doing much but otherwise I prefer the 2nd. I really don't fancy Arsenal to keep a CS. But these are just opinions man

2FT and wanted to do PVA and Fab to Baines and Chadli. Chadlis injury concern and playing City means i might hold.off and punt on Bellerin. Feel uneasy about dirching Fab too so seems a win win this week.

let's clear up a fallacy about Everton:

Of the 7 league games they've played, 5 were away and they've already played Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool (a) and United (a).

Arguably the toughest start in the Premier League so far..

Yep agree entirely. Although some of the stats bandied about against Evertons defense was from last season where they were fortunate to do as well as they did, mainly thanks to Howard

    2. Les Bleus

Palace don't all of a sudden become a shit team because Pulis leaves..if anything I would think it just affects their defensive resolve

also plenty of teams have shock losses..United's defense isn't anything special yet but it's not 5 goals to Leicester bad and yet that happened

It could be a really good move. Only thing that you will need to make sure to do is save the week before their fixtures turn and use both transfers on switching two of the three players out of your team.

      • 12 Years

I don't see why it's not a good idea. If there were other teams keeping clean sheets for below 6M then maybe, but there isn't. Go for it.

Great question, would love to know. Wish there were more QPR fans about these parts as you'd probably have to be pretty plugged into the club to have this type of info. Green has been pretty effing bad though.

I think it's more that the community here really really wants Mcarthy to start so they automatically think that he will.

There have been no signs whatsoever pointing to the fact that Green will be dropped.

I'm wondering if very low ownership players are subject to different rules to higher ownership players for price changed this season. Sakho rose earlier this international break despite not having had the expected required number of transfers in *all season*.

Tonight Marney dropped for the first time despite having shed about 30% of his ownership since the start of the season according to my rough calculation. Yes, he was flagged, but I'm pretty sure he had passed the drop threshold long before his flag (based on what we used to know about drop thresholds). Hmmm...

Personally i feel you are getting swept up. Evertons defense is now Baines, Jag, Distin and Hibbert? Clean sheets dont look on the cards imo, Howard seems to be pretty erratic this year. There are not penalties every week. Chelsea defenders will end up toward the top of def points scorers the end of the year. (Note, i own neither)

7 mil for a defender with little (imo) chance of clean sheets is too much. I do understand the Ivan pick, much better defense and he is also attacking. Just my opinion obvs, understand others think different.

Long as people are posting clarifications about Everton's defense, please keep in mind that for reasons I can't imagine but now just accept as an Everton fan, we suck when we play Crystal Palace.

Look at last season when we blanked in one game and lost the other game, at home, with a possible Champions League slot on the line and still possible.

Crystal Palace just match up well against Everton and I hope no other Prem team figures out what the heck they do to us.

Ok, I was wondering what sort of advice you were after, it wasn't particularly clear in your post, hence why RMT's can be a little tedious without further elaboration.

Personally I don't think Milner is a good 4th mid choice, I believe his game time is under significant threat. Also you should post your subs alongside your first team so people can get a better understanding as to the structure of your squad.

Yeah i expect a tough game for all of them esp if the weaker teams shore up at home. Tts why i brought in aguero who is usually reliable at home

      Good for now.
      Dont like Rojo long term.
Guess you have to stick with Naismith now fixtures are better but he could upgrade to Welbeck?

Was thinking the same on Rojo, but i'll give him a go just for this GW to see how he goes. Agreed on Naismith since he's fixs are tempting but gonna monitor welbeck first

    Current front 8:

    ADM Fab Siggy Sterling Boyd
    Aguero Costa Pelle

I'm only have Chambers as arsenal cover. Anybody else considering bringing in cazorla? only selected by 1.9 %.

Thinking of using my 2 FTs on fabregas rafael to cazorla baines.

    Yay or nay?

It is obviously brilliant as its my (and i guess many others) front 8!

Not sure on the Carzola move, personally waiting for Walcott and will prob move Sterling out for him

I would do it..though i cannot afford carz and went for tadic the good thing about selling fab is that u know at least for now he will not kill u immediately for selling him.

I narrowed down my captain options to 3 players, no, they aren't welbz, Costa or KUN

    A) Falcao

    B) Hazard

    C) Baines

Tough. Palace will be up for Chelsea as will Wba at home.

      Never captain Baines.

      Have to say Falcao.

Bit mad not having and/or captaining either of Costa or Kun tbh.

Sixty mins is enough for Kun this week.

I see us manhandling them AGAIN.

Yea Falcao of those three. Dead cert to start and we know for a fact there will be goals!

Hope he gets u a hat trick and they lose 4-3 😉

None of my rivals have him.

        A) I don't own KUN actually 😆

        B) it's becoming boring to see Costa captain week in week out, I also feel palace will give a tough time to Chelsea

        C) and as for Welbz, just can't rely on him

Hazard looks to be a nice differential captain this week. Same fixture as Costa obviously so if you are after a more interesting move then you could do worse than Hazard who has pulled his socks up ever since being subbed a few weeks back.

      Sorry mate not a fan.

Start again. Look at fixtures. Players coming back off injury. Milner is a quick punt that may backfire for me.

In fact to be brutal I would maybe keep or go with 5 at most of this WC team.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have another look. I feel good about my Lukaku pick but im a bit concerned about my midfield. I'd like to have Hazrad in there.

If I'm honest, I don't like it much. Granted, it's not template, but there is a template for a reason I guess. Too much invested on your bench. I like all 5 defender picks actually, some really good diffs but I would probably downgrade at least one of Schlupp and Robertson. Just had another look and it's crazy to not have Chelsea player in there. Brave to not pick Costa! And I also don't like the Gerrard and Milner picks. You're clearly playing 3 up front, so one of Milner, Siggy or Downing has to be benched. Think you could spend a lot more wisely.
