The ScoutCast – Episode 139 – Essential

Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Krul/Elliot

    Clyne Wilson Bardsley
    DiMaria Sterling Sigurdsson Tadic
    Costa Aguero Pelle

    Wisdom Chambers Marney

    1 FT, 1.5m banked.

This team good enough to save for the week?

Then next week, you might fancy using 2 FTs to upgrade the defense.

That's the plan. Only the second time i'm whipping out the double Stoke defence...first time gave me 2 cleansheets and 3 baps, hoping for the same!

    What to do?

    DDG/Gilks
    Cahill/Duff/Chester/Clyne/Dummet
    ADM/Sterling/Siggy/Downing/Marney
    Pelle/Costa/Aguero

I'm thinking of saving FT and doing Chester + DDG -> Baines + Guzan next week. Thoughts on these moves?

Considering to play my WC...need your honest opinions to choose any 1 option

    A)
    Guzan
    Clyne / Baines / Ivanovic
    ADM / Sterling / Siggy / Silva
    Costa / Welbeck / Pelle

    B)
    Guzan
    Clyne / Ivanovic / Naylor
    Siggy / Mane / ADM / Sterling
    Costa / Aguero / Welbeck

Bench for both options: McCarthy / Obertan / Wisdom / Moore

would say both are worth doing....don't have much confidence in ade this week or moving forward.

A slightly edges B as arsenal are going to be playing an unfamiliar attacking lineup this weekend without ramsey, ozil, walcott.

also i think everton will have some joy against villa.

The curse of the early kick-off captain?

With wide debate on here currently deciding who to captain between Aguero and Costa, one of the potential factors being mooted is the early kick-off for Aguero.

Below are the results for all the early kick-off games for the current season so far:

    Man Utd 1 - 2 Swansea
    Aston Villa 0 - 0 Newcastle
    Burnley 0 - 0 Man Utd
    Arsenal 2 - 2 Man City
    QPR 2 - 2 Stoke
    Liverpool 1 - 1 Everton

No team has managed to score 3 goals or more in the six games played so far. With an average result of 1-1, chances for big points seem scarce. Maybe the rumour is true after all, and the players aren't indeed eating Weetabix for breakfast.

    Costa (c)

Morning folks! Which one big decision are you facing today? Let's see if we can help each other out and talk ourselves into/out of our moves!

    I'll go first...

Want to shift PVA and maybe DDG... really like the look of a Chelsea defender (despite fixtures - I'm actually confident of tightening up in the big games) or Baines and I'd like to double up on Soton defence.

    PVA > Azpi
    OR
    DDG & PVA > Forster & Baines/Ivan (-4)

I reckon the -4 is worth it for the added attacking threat and getting a keeper up to January who will actually get points outside of penalty saves.

After buying Baines with my spare cash today I just realised I have enough left over to do Tadic -> Walcott as well if I wanted to. Obviously I'll give it a bit of time before making the move but it would give me a pretty epic team with 6 big hitters (2 in each position).

    Forster
    Baines, Ivan, Naylor, Moore, Duff
    Sterling, Walcott, Siggy, Chadlii, Boyd
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

Can others afford 6 big hitters?

Is Ivan even worth it these days? He always has good starts to seasons and then slowly fades away. One bad game and Filipe Luis will be knocking on the door.

Luis won't be knocking on the door mate. Ivan hasn't been dropped for years, easily the most nailed on defender in the team. Chelsea are tightening up at the back and Terry no longer comes up for corners so Ivan is the main target for Fabregas now.

But we know how Mourniho is like. And I don't recall Chelsea having such a good replacement for a defender. Filipe Luis was one of Athletico's best players last season and will be given a chance sooner or later. Can't see Azpi/Cahill/Terry being dropped for him and Ivan has been criticised for being poor defensively.

Mourinho loves Ivan, that much is clear. Luis gets plenty of game time in the CL and in the cups. Mourinho has a nice rotation going with Ivan, Azpi and Luis already.

I doubt Luis would of signed with Chelsea to play second fiddle all season. He will get an opportunity in the EPL sooner or later and I can see Ivan being dropped for him. This is my opinion any way 😛

Wow, you plumped for Walcott already.

You midfield lacks some depth imo, Ryan. No ADM and Fabs is a concern.

ADM has rough fixtures and Fabregas doesn't offer goal threat. I'm keeping Tadic for the time being but if and when Walcott starts firing (or even Ramsey perhaps) then I'll be all over it.

ADM has the class to transcend the fixture list. Fabs - how many assists has he had? Walcott needs gametime.

We are agreed on Walcott, I'm prepared to wait a few weeks before getting him, Tadic will do for now.

ADM might force my hand if he can prove he can do it against Chelsea and City. My main criticism earlier was that he wasn't getting into the box much and has had to create his own opportunities, throw in a bit of luck and here is is, dominating our thoughts. I'm happy to be proven wrong however.

Fabs does get a lot of assists, yes that is true. I'm hoping Ivan and Costa will be enough Chelsea cover to make up for it however. Besides, I have Siggy and Chadlii who are both doing better than Fabregas right now for a fraction of the price. If anything I fear Hazard more than Fabs.

    Morning chaps

Struggling with a transfer this week, the long term plan was to lose Pelle and bring in Welbeck, but at the moment I'm not too sure. I still think Pelle is a good choice, but feel that Arsenal will score more goals in the short term, but, perhaps, the Arsenal goals will be spread around more and a better percentage of Southampton goals will go through Pelle??

So, what are people's views on Pelle versus Welbeck as a third striker?

Nor me Doos! The loose change from Pelle to Welbeck will also allow a slight upgrade in defence, so that may clinch the transfer...

Both very good options; I'm currently with Pelle. If I'm not getting Welbeck anytime soon, I'd keep an eye on Walcott as my Arsenal attacking player.

I think you summed it up nicely yourself. Arsenals goals will be spread around more, who else can score goals at Southampton? everything goes through Pelle.

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Cheers Ryan, I'm leaning towards keeping Pelle, due to this, but Welbeck's numbers are pretty similar and I can see him scoring well, but as No Association points out, Walcott's re-emergence has muddied the waters a little, for the best Arsenal asset...its one of those decisions that can easily bite you in the ass 🙁

I am bringing in Pelle over Welbeck this week, purely because Walcott will be back soon and a better option in my opinion.

Next 4 are great for Pelle. Southampton produce a large amount of crosses from out-wide with both fullbacks, all of which are aimed at Pelle.

With the impending return of both Walcott and Giroud, the appeal for Welbeck could reduce.

Go for Pelle and get Walcott on return.
