The ScoutCast – Episode 139 – Essential

Don’t get us wrong – we’re not labelling this latest droning session as “essential” listening. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the concept of essential players has dominated the airwaves at Scout towers over the past week.

In this latest episode, Granville and I take on this meaty subject, whilst chewing over the importance of ownership and spit out the semblance of an opinion on both. Around that main course, we take on the usual bevvy of regulars with the usual haphazard panache.

Essential? Not quite, not even on a rainy Thursday night.

Grab this crucial slice of audio via this link or explore this necessary noise via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ron Vlaaaaaaar is confirmed back by Lambert? He's in line up in the team news section. Had him on bench for some time and be a remedy this gw.

    Will Aguero rise tonight?

Fiso says possibly, FPL stats say maybe and TFPL definitely not.

Which is most trustworthy if any?

Will be priced out if he rises.

If it didn't affect the number of free transfers for next week, who would you rather have?

    a) Hazard (cry, mun, QPR)

    b) Silva (TOT, whm, MUN)

Think I agree. Funny thing is I sold Haz for Silva last week, in order to not waste a transfer. This week I am considering the reverse in order not to waste a transfer. Probably getting burned again

Begovic -> Forster or save FT.

I also have Chadli but nothing really I can do about it. Probably would have been a 2 pointer anyway.

I'd save the transfer as Begovic is a strong enough keeper pick this week.

Noob? Top 5k last year, and 10K the year prior. Behave.

Siggurdsdon is a flat track bully.

3 good returns this year. West brom and Newcastle at home, and the shamble that was united on the opening day.

He will always offer a threat on set pieces and is definitely a seasons keeper but will not be a must-pick long run IMO

I've rested him twice already, this will be the third, and have not missed any of the three hauls he has provided in seven outings.

Given the volume of budget midfielders this season there will be times when he doesn't make the cut.

He is so damn reliable with a good fixture, but equally hit and miss when the rubber is less favourable.

            Correct yeah.

Pelle is excellent value. Clearly not as desirable as augero, but relatively speaking, a much better acquisition imo.

He is the focal point of a very decent side, and everything is built to getting him on the end of things

Just wildcarded and ended up with this

    Krul Foster
    Azpi Mangala Baines Wilson Wisdom
    Hazard Siggy Tadic Milner Wilshere
    Costa Pelle Lukaku

Any thoughts on this team.. Good/Bad?

    1. BeachBadger
      • 10 Years

Not a lot of heavy hitters in the middle. Seems very punty. Tadic, Milner, Wilshire wouldnt fill me with confidence each week Not a fan of Lukaku either but great fixtures for him. I would ditch Krul on a WC too.

      1. jlinehan999
        • 14 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah I could do Lukaku -> Naismith and Milner -> Di Maria to bulk up the midfield. Its a close call atm. Who would you get for Krul? Mannone?

        1. BeachBadger
          • 10 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Maybe he seems to be raking in the save points again but poor fixtures. Can you afford the extra 0.1 for Guzan? Great rotation with Foster. I'm not sure about Naismith either what with Barkley soon to return but could be good too. Seems to be a few decent cheap strikers at the minute though so be easy transfer him out if he isnt doing well.

A little weak in your midfield with Tadic, Milner and Wilshire, but I like all the differentials nonetheless. Much more prefer a team similar to this than what all the sheep have using a template.

Yeah I like that it's different, but I don't really like the players. It's kinda tough. The template is there for a reason. Them players score points.

Welbeck cos cheaper and I expect his goal scoring to pick up a good bit. Main striker!

So, I saved my transfers for two weeks thoroughly expecting to have some injuries during the international break. Now my players seem to have come through unscathed but I'm stumped on the best way to spend them. I was going to use one on Chambers but the idiot got himself suspended and that Arsenal backline looks rickety in the extreme.
Eunice Kabul or Danny Rose look decent picks but not this week, that Liverpool defence is shockingly bad, United ditto and City defenders seem overpriced for what they return. I like Robertson of Hull and Wisdom / Dawson of West Brom but not this week. Bleugh.

Tompkins has picked up a pretty tidy little following on here for a defender in that bracket.

        RMT

        Mannone
        Clyne - Baines - Wilson
        AdM - Sterling - Siggy - Fab
        Costa - Pelle - Welbeck

bench Forster - Duff - Wisdom - Quinn

Who too captain, i wanna go for a differential since i am in 600k rank.
I am thinking of going for Welbeck(H) vs Hull or Sterling (A) WBA

1FT and 2.5 already did chambers to Baines... im keeping my FT and why i pick mannone over Forster is because i have clyne and i am not sure if either will keep clean

I know the feeling mate. Even the one I was considering getting in Chadli is a doubt so I may be taking a punt on a 4.5 defender this week 😆

Think I might do Willliamson to Moore.

I've got two FTs and don't really want to lose a transfer so this at least frees up some money for the future.

Sorry, I got called away. Thanks for the replies.

Doubling up on Saints with Bertie and Clyne is tempting but they'll all have to go soon as the fixtures change; seems wasteful to transfer them in and out again within a month when others can be kept until the winter wildcard. I'll probably do Bertie > Azpic after Southampton's good run ends.

Tompkins looks interesting but for 5m I'd want someone I'd feel comfortable with playing in all but the most difficult away games. A bit of goal or assist threat is a bonus with him though. I like Rose or Kabul best, mainly because Spurs kept 8 clean sheets and home and 6 away last year under a fairly poor manager. 14 clean sheets is very good. They are definitely tightening up under Poch but City away is a nightmare.

They were excellent against Spurs at White Hart Lane, very impressive performance. If Pellè wasn't in such good form I'd be tempted by Berahino and Baines.

we've all seen what he did last year. this year he started with an injury so we cant really blame him for not getting points 😀

I hear that. I made my transfers last night. I had held out 12 days, lost .1 over moving earlier and would have preferred to wait until next week, but once it looked like prices might go beyond my budget before the deadline it became clear there was no point waiting longer.

Yep internationals are out of the way and it would be extremely unlikely for anything to happen injury wise before deadline. It's a bit like waiting for the sake of waiting.

there are only 11 points between 200k and 100k.....with so many popular players performing from the off and the midfield becoming rather template, i think the league this year is probabily the tightest its ever been after 7 gws

I agree, but this year I am noticing less template than usual because of abundance of players,

Midfield: Siggy, ADM, Chadli, Fabre, Sterling, Hazard, Downing, Eriksen, Sanchez, Tadic, Silva, etc

Forward: Ulloa, Welbz, Costa, Pelle, Berahino, Aguero, Naismeth, Sakho, etc

probably this abundance is actually one of the reason it is a keeping the league tight
