Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 8

Another week, another Arsenal absentee. It must be pretty crowded in the Emirates stands these days as each match seemingly delivers fresh injury woes but the Gunners walking wounded have had a regular stream of visitors to keep them company. Latest in this line of incarcerated candy stripers was Jack Wilshere, who followed team-mate Calum Chambers in keeping the disciplinary seat warm and ensures the north London outfit will be without another of their first team squad for the upcoming Gameweek.

Already trailing again from a Hull goal early in the second half, Wilshere was booked for two consecutive fouls on Gastón Ramírez in the space of three minutes. His tough-tackling style going a step too far in more ways than one for the second of these fouls, as he injured himself in the process and was duly replaced almost immediately. Wilshere will now sit out the trip to beleaguered Sunderland, with either of the fit again pairing of Mikel Arteta or Aaron Ramsey set to take his place in the midfield double-pivot.

As Wilshere toppled, the tightrope was in need of new tenants, but it never stays empty for long at this stage of the season. Over the course of the weekend’s schedule a couple of candidates were inducted in his place. On Saturday, a caution for West Ham’s Winston Reid was enough to take him to four for the season and his tally was matched the following day by Stoke’s Phil Bardsley. Both will therefore head into the weekend knowing a further indiscretion will see them incur a one-match ban.

Elsewhere, the Chelsea defence is set for a shake-up after ever-present Cesar Azpilicueta received his marching orders in Saturday’s win over London rivals Crystal Palace. The Spaniard’s two-footed lunge on the Eagles’ Mile Jedinak means he is set to miss the next two league matches – away to United and home to QPR – in addition to a Capital One Cup clash with Shrewsbury. New boy Filipe Luis should be afforded the chance to nail down the left-back berth, then, before Azpilicueta becomes available for selection in Gameweek 11, when the league leaders roll up to Anfield.

Palace’s Damien Delaney was also dismissed in the same match. The centre-half collected two yellow cards in the 2-1 home loss and will miss next week’s clash with West Brom – with Scott Dann still injured, Neil Warnock will roll up to the Hawthorns without either of his first-choice centre-halves .

Tottenham’s Federico Fazio is also set to serve a one-match ban. Handed his first league start of the season away to Man City on Saturday lunchtime, the Argentine was sent packing for denying a goal scoring opportunity and will miss the upcoming home clash with Newcastle.

United’s Wayne Rooney remains on the naughty step. The United skipper is set to serve the last of a three-match ban against Chelsea this coming weekend before returning just in time for the Manchester derby away to City in Gameweek 10.

Both Jonjo Shelvey and Calum Chambers return to action, though, having served one-match suspensions. The pair sat out last weekend’s fixtures after earning their fifth yellows of the season in Gameweek 7.

Finally, there are as many as 17 players currently sitting on three yellows, with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas the most high-profile addition after collecting a caution against Palace. He joins the likes of Diego Costa, Yaya Toure, Graziano Pelle and Alberto Moreno in sitting two bookings away from an automatic ban.

Costa will be sold. Am waiting for further confirmation, however the forwards are producing too much to have one wasting away on the bench.
Plus i dont want to lose my profits on him. Will sell and buy pelle , ride a few rises on him then in four weeks move on

I just want to say I told you so to trig next week. Been telling him to get Bera for a while but then this is the first week I've actually owned him. To think of what might have been had I actually started the season with him as I almost did. 🙁

In order to fund Costa to Aguero would you do:

    A. Terry to Chambers
    or
    B. downgrade Fab/Adm to Tadic/ Eriksen

    1. DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy
      • 10 Years

Exactly my issue and I chose ADM to Tadic.

Just want the Soton man for next few and Terry has QPR (H) soon - I'd be more likely to do PVA > Chambers in my own situation.

If I don't sell Costa for a hit, I may sell Bego for one..I see 0% chance of a Stoke CS this weekend and so I feel that at best Bego could get 3 points (1 conceded and a save point or 2 conceded and 2 save points)..Guzan on the other hand is close to averaging a save point a game and their fixtures are kind all the way through GW16 save for a few toughies..don't let Villa's lack of CS since GW4 sway you, their last 4 have been ARS, che, MCI, eve so while they've conceded a massive 11 goals in that time, all things considered it's really not a great deal looking at the opposition..

yes I hate taking hits for keepers, but when I look at Stoke's fixtures I see potentially 1-2 cleansheets in the next 13 matches so this is a transfer to be done and dusted now and out of the way

Doesn't seem much difference in their scores if works out like that.
Stoke don't concede many, but can see villa getting heavy defeat now and again, even their early form didn't reflect the stats for opponent attacking.

Don't take a hit on a keeper. Moronic. The upside is so low and the variance of keeper scores is too low to make it worth it.

the hit doesn't have to be paid off by the keeper, it just has to be paid off by the transfers. going RVP > Aguero for my other transfer could pay off the hit on its own. the keeper hit isn't also for one week but likely for 6+

also don't need to call it moronic 🙂

Or you could just go RVP > Aguero and do it for free the next week. Then you save 4 points regardless.

Everton will be without the rested duo of Steven Naismith and Leon Osman for tomorrow's Europa League Group H clash in Lille.

Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone, only recently back involved after long-term injuries, are not yet fully match-fit so have also sat out the trip to France, along with Kevin Mirallas (hamstring) and John Stones (ankle).

Veteran Frenchman Sylvain Distin, left out the matchday squad for the last four games, has been included in the travelling party

Who's the best 5.0 defender for your money? Clyne won't work and I would take a 0.1 loss bringing back Naismith, so psychologically I don't want to do that. Thinking about Sakho...

Krul is a poor rotate with Fabianski. Try Begovic.

Dier to Rose, Alderweireld to Clyne/Bertrand.

Jedinac is neither fish nor fowl. Either Downing/Milner or Boyd/Mahrez.

      Naismith needs to be Berahino

Otherwise it's fine. Midfield not my cup of tea.

If Costa was injured it would make things so much easier..

    Bego/Gilks
    Baines Moreno Bert Wisdom Hutton
    Tadic Sterling Siggy Fab Boyd
    Kun Costa Welbz

    0ITB and 1FT

Costa to Pelle is the obvious one if he is injured.

If not.. Moreno to who? Ranked in the top 1k and think if Costa is not out for a while and I sell him I'm at big risk of dropping.

Currently about 20k (dizzy heights for me). Like my team (besides the keepers). Would love some input - feel I need some Arsenal and could ideally move on Costa and Naismith.

    Heaton/McCarthy

    Baines - Ivan - Bertrand - Wisdom - Moore

Boyd - Cesc - Siggy - Di Maria - Sterling

    Costa - Pelle - Naismith

    ITB: 1.8

Is David Silva ever gonna get going or is he £9.1m that's better spent elsewhere? Seems the only Man City player worth having at the moment is Aguero and I can't really afford him! Fairly happy with my front 3 at the moment and just done Ulloa -> Welbeck:

    Guzan
    Clyne, Baines, Lovren
    Silva, Siggy, ADM, Chadli (V)
    Pelle (C), Costa, Welbeck

    Bench: Begovic, Williams, Larsson, Coloccini

    £1.4m in the bank

Silva -> Ramsey maybe next week!? Thought about Sanchez but I want the funds for Larsson -> Mane or Barkley also!

Aguero is involved in such a high percentage of City's goals that he is definitely a priority ahead of Silva.

I'd probably downgrade Lovren and then bring in Aguero for Costa.
