The ScoutCast – Episode 140 – Gloaty

After the best Gameweek tally in living memory, I reserve the right for a bit of a gloat. Having risked the Wildcard back in Gameweek 7, the stars aligned and everything fell into place last weekend, leaving my ScoutCast co-host, grumpy Granville, grabbing at straws and smashing TV sets in frustration.

After last season’s defeat, I revel in my moment of glory but still find time to lock horns with Granville over the great Costa debate. Is Jose playing with our minds? I certainly think so but, as Granville points out, I reckon the Lunar landings were fake. I love a good conspiracy, me.

Congratulate yourself via this link or bask in smugness via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I would wait for Costa news, but if you want Tadic, I'd downgrade Fab. Or whoever will lose you the least TV to get back in.

am holding. I think managers who've decided to keep Costa won't be engaging in the debate, but those who want to sell are the ones you'll see here posting about it.

As long as you have decent subs for Costa while he's out for a game or two(if he's even out), wouldnt want to waste transfers on him - 100% you'd want him back when fit.

I'm kind of swayed by Berahino as a Costa replacement now.

    * His next three fixtures are (CPL, lei, NEW) - could it be any better offensively?
    * This week, he faces a Palace without their two decent CBs. A slow, ageing Hangeland and a makesift Kelly does sound ominous for them defensively.
    * On pens? Yes, that too.

    I'll still wait till tomorrow.

budget striker merry go round syndrome though...don't forget, for the teams they face, WBA is an easy fixture as well. I wouldn't expect much. WBA haven't become a fantastic team over night.

That's true. I would hardly care about them losing or winning though, as long as Berahino bangs a couple or three in.

I kind of feel it's unfair that people who have done Bojan>Naismith>Ulloa>Berahino/Sakho have potentially gained 0.6m in selling value yet have made poor decisions.

good point. But I value the points I've had with Pelle over that same period. Believe most managers got Naismith in for his blanks, Ulloa for his blanks and now we'll see how Berahino/Sakho do.

I was on the fence between him vs Sakho.

Berahino in form and have a perfect 3 fixtures.

Went with Sakho in the end since I'll be wanting him in after the 3 fixtures anyway and
Berahino's goal are penos (2 in last 4?) and he surely wouldn't be getting it every week ala Gerrard.

      Good option nonetheless.

If being proactive, maybe even Fab to Hazard imo. It's all about being ahead of the curve. Managers in GW8 with Baines Tadic Pelle Aguero(c) can vouch for that fact.

        1. Respect My Authoritah
          • 10 Years

Saw something that suggests Hazard is much more a threat when Costa doesn't play. On that basis, I'd say Cesc is a better long term pick. Moving ahead of the curve fails far often than it succeeds

          1. Shifty
            • 10 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

I beg to differ. Trying to be ahead of the curve by picking Dzeko over Aguero, Falcao over Aguero, Santi because Ozil's injured etc, would fail more often than it succeeds.

But with Hazard, he's a proven FPL monster, on pens, most touches in the box of any midfielder, on par with many strikers, a goal scoring mid who usually starts the season slow, and an overall game suited for BPS. It's a calculated FPL pick.

Not saying Fab is a bad pick, he's a fantastic player, on set pieces, superb vision, playing for a team with goals in them. Just feel that as the season ramps up, Hazard will begin to show his influence.

It's a what have you done for me lately game though. He's also fairly streaky so if you have him when he has that great game, then good, but there's a lot of 2s, 3s, etc. in between.

I think it depends on the quality of the player you are betting on. Fine to do it for Hazard, ADM, Sanchez etc.

      Fab
I rode the Hazard train and was late getting off and getting on the Cesc one.
Think Cesc is a lot more consistent. The Chelsea F injury situation might be an x-factor in Hazard's favor, but I'll pass for now.

I've resigned that I missed out on his best week of the season so am trying not to rush it, but if Costa is out, I think I'll do the switch. I can't afford both without a hit, at least going from Aguero to Costa is hassle free price wise.

I know Sanchez is one of the best attacking outlets for Arsenal, but what puts me off him a little is the fact that he is the only attacker in the team who is ready to drop back, do defensive work when the ball is not in possession, and move up and down continously.

Great for the team, but must affect his attacking returns too?

Not seen much of the Hammers this season apart from some Sakho/Valencia highlights. How are they looking defensively at home? Do they have enough to keep City relatively quiet? Aguero (c) or not is what i'm trying to decide.

They're playing a more attacking style and will concede more... but could see them keeping city to 1 or 2

Aguero isn't going to get 4 goals every week. I think 1 goal max against West ham, City have alot of scoring options. This is coming from an Aguero (C) last GW.

I'll be happy with the one goal this week though. I'm sure with the baps magnet he is he'll get a couple of baps as well which would make him a good captain choice.

Siggy, on the other hand, has no stats to back his performances up. No wonder he has blanked in the last 5.

          Form over fixture,for me.

Look at his International form. Scoring for fun, similar to Aguero but against tougher opposition. Also take a look at his points when they play in the liberty. West ham are 4th in the league for a reason and City will struggle I believe.

Siggy also could have gotten a haul in the first 30 min. Was unlucky.

But we aren't playing internationals are we? If you're judging form based on internationals, no one would ever own Costa in FPL

City will find it tough, yes but they still have enough to score a couple regardless of the result.

Having said that, I would advice you to go with you gut

I'm just saying Siggy has that scoring touch. He has been seen as a "Fabregas" type player lately.

I wanted to (C) him against Newcastle and everyone on this site talked me out of it. I ended up going with Costa who got 6. Aguero got 7. Siggy got 10.

Leicester have also conceded the most shots this season.

So guys thinking of pulling the trigger:

Cahill, Silva, PvA --> Coleman, Barkley, Kompany/Zabaleta

or should I avoid getting the premium defender (PvA --> Kompany) and use the funds else for future?
and do something like PvA --> Vlaar?

Already used ft (Downing out, Tadic in). Have 1.5 itb.
Would you take a -4 hit (Krul out or maybe Elliott, Foster in). I would never use a ft to get rid of Krul & WBA seems a good bet for a cs v Palace & has nice subsequent fixtures.

    Current team:
    Krul
    Baines, Ivanovic, Clyne
    ADM, Sterling, Tadic, Siggy
    Aguero (c), Pelle (vc), Welbeck

    Elliott, Hutton, Boyd, Moore

    Thanks in advance.
