The Weekend Team News

Tom Huddlestone and Andrew Robertson are doubtful as Hull head to Anfield. James McArthur emerges as a doubt for Crystal Palace’s clash against West Brom, who look set to welcome back Ben Foster. Gus Poyet pledges to stick by Vito Mannone as Arsenal pay visit. Stoke suffer an injury blow to Glenn Whelan, while the Hammers are boosted by the returns of Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins.

Neil Warnock has confirmed that James McArthur and Scott Dann are both doubts ahead of the Baggies clash. Dann missed the defeat to Chelsea with a knee injury, while James McArthur could also miss out this weekend after coming off against the Blues with a hip problem.

West Brom are boosted ahead of the visit of Palace by the return of Ben Foster. The keeper missed the Monday night stalemate with Man United due to a calf complaint but has since returned to training. Meanwhile, Jonas Olsson and Silvestre Varela are sidelined for the Baggies.

Gus Poyet has kept faith with Vito Mannone ahead of the visit of Arsenal, despite the heavy defeat inflicted by Southampton last week. Poyet also reveals that changes will be minimal, with “about 75%” of the side that started against the Saints retaining their places. Elsewhere, the Black Cats have announced the signing of Frenchman Anthony Reveillere, with the full-back set to go straight into the squad against Arsenal subject to international clearance.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has revealed that Glenn Whelan will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a fractured leg. Meanwhile, Phil Bardsley is Stoke’s only injury concern after sustaining a back problem in last week’s clash with Swansea. Hughes remains hopeful the full-back will train later and be in contention to face Southampton.

Arsene Wenger has admitted Laurent Koscielny remains unavailable for Arsenal this weekend and is hoping to have his compatriot back after the next international break. The Gunners boss also confirmed he’s “not sure” over Theo Walcott’s involvement, though went on to say the winger will “certainly” be in the squad next week.

Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins are back in the squad for West Ham’s meeting with Man City, confirms Sam Allardyce.

Steve Bruce has revealed both Tom Huddlestone and Andrew Robertson are “big doubts” for Hull’s trip to Liverpool. With Nikica Jelavic, Steve Harper and Michael Dawson ruled out in midweek, the Tigers boss concedes he may have to make “four or five changes” to the side that drew at Arsenal last weekend.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

I can't believe the UK still has those bullshit rules that mean El Clasico won't be shown until 5:15. Absolutely stunning

Live games can't be shown until 5:15pm because it might lower attendance at the 3pm games. So we miss 15 minutes of Spanish 5pm kick offs.

Probably a law put in place to say that matches can't be aired before 5:15. Put in place so that productivity doesn't grind to a halt before the end of the work day.

according to the meber's stats welbeck creates more chances than berahino, but the later is more likely to score goal.
the only thing that bothers me is that welbeck has burnley at emirates next gw.

I know, crazy right! You'd expect an attempt like that at 4-0 up but I think it was 1-0 at the time (might be wrong).

He must do that on a regular basis in training to even try it in an important game.

Question is: was it because he was just showboating, or because his right foot is so weak that he actually shoots better that way?

        1. Grumpy Camel
          • 12 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

great question. Only player who uses his right leg less is silva who tries to to even run on it.

I also remember watching Maradona do that a few times (yes, I am that old), and he was no frequent user of his right foot either. I think he actually might have said that he crossed better that way than to try a cross with his right foot, but don't quote me on that, I'm probably just making it up.

Superfluous piece of showboating from Lamela. There was no need for him to do it. If anything, it demonstrates how unskillful he is as a soccer player if he can't use his weak foot to shoot from 20 yards out. Poor sportsmanship all round.

I considered both. Decided upon a cheapie (Moore or Duff) to rotate along with wisdom and hutton. Arsenal don't keep enough cleanses for me and I'll will probably bench points with my cheaper defenders getting cleanies on their stronger fixtures (I'm a fan of rotating defenders)

Hi guys, your opinion on my squad for the GW would be very much appreciated

    Bego
    Ivan Clyne Moore
    Fab Sterling Siggy Downing
    Costa Kun Pelle

    Hamer PVA Duff Albrighton

    2FT, 1.8itb

will do PVA => Dawson after the pressers

Any obvious flaws to spend my other FT on?

Maybe use the FT to get rid of Alby or PVA

There's a big part of me that thinks that Costa is fit to play and that Mourinho is up to his old Man Utd winding up tactics.

Those of us who bought Siggy @ 6.0, what are your plans next week? Ditch for one of the Spurs lads or season keeper?

I'll take some convincing that he is not the best in that price bracket

        This.

Made moves this week so that I have the option to bench Siggy in any of his next 3 games.

Just move him on. Points are king, not team value.

Tempted to drop... Maybe Diame if he still looks good and Siggy blanks. Not too worried about keeping him though if I have to.

Considering Barkley if he can stay fit for a few weeks. Clearly Martinez isn't going to play him twice a week for a while 🙂

With prices changing so slowly, it makes it a lot easier to jump ship.

Pick three. I just cant make this decision

    Ivan, Baines, Chambers, Clyne, Hutton

      Ivan, Baines & Clyne

Ivan and Baines a certainty, then I would rank

      Clyne, chambers, hutton

My current squad for GW9, need last minute improvements? Got 1FT and £4.8m spare.
    De Gea (Mannone)
Bertrand - Ivanovic - Clyne - (Wisdom, Cameron)
Di Maria - Siggurdson - Sterling - Sadio Mane (Albrighton)
    Costa - Welbeck - Naismith

Also who should my captain be for GW8? Many thanks in advance.

God, I miss this place, first post in about a week... 🙁

Some help with this lot please...?

    Krulliot
    ShawX Clyne Caulker Duff Wisdom
    Fabregas Ramsey Sterling Siggy Marney
    Costa Aguero Pelle

    2FTs, 0.2m ITB

    Thinking either ShawX/Caulker & Costa > Baines & Lukaku/Welbeck (2FTs)

    Thoughts?

I am keeping Costa myself, so fixing the Krulliot situation. Elliot->Foster, him and Krul rotate very very nicely over the next 9.

Keep Caulker. Villa leak on corners and R's have a good run of games coming up (unlike Stoke)

ShawX & Costa > Baines and Welbeck
