Scout Notes – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

Sergio Aguero grabs the match-winner against United as City win a fourth straight Manchester derby. United’s worries at the back continue as injury and suspension hit Louis van Gaal’s side. Nacer Chadli grabs his fifth of the campaign and Harry Kane stakes a claim for a starting role as Spurs come from behind to get the better of Villa.

Aguero Wraps Up Win Against Rivals

Sergio Aguero took his tally to ten for the season with the winner against Man United in the Manchester derby. The Argentinian now has seven goals and eight bonus points from his last six appearances in a run of form that has seen him emerge as an ‘essential’ pick right now. Notably, the City striker’s goal yesterday came in a week that saw the likes of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Saido Berahino all blank, allowing him to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings. Aguero still has ownership under 25%, though with City set to roll up to Loftus Road next weekend, that level of interest is surely set to increase over the coming week.

Derby Day Blues for United

The 1-0 loss to their local rivals was the first time in seven outings that United have failed to score, as Louis van Gaal’s start to life at Old Trafford continues to stutter. Angel Di Maria now has just one assist to show for his last three and has lost ownership in each of the last two Gameweeks, with the current of form of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez proving too tempting for many. However, United have three excellent home fixtures in their next four (CPL, HUL, STO) and Di Maria will have the chance to rediscover the form that saw him collect three double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 4 and 7.

Defensive Concerns Build for Red Devils

Attack is certainly likely to be the best form of defence for Van Gaal’s outfit, with their problems at the back showing no sign of abating. Rafael was injured in training prior to yesterday’s encounter, whilst Marcus Rojo dislocated his shoulder during the derby and is looks certain to miss the Crystal Palace clash this coming weekend, according to his manager. With Chris Smalling also suspended for that match after a catastrophic red card at the Etihad, and the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones struggling with injury, Van Gaal is likely to have to stick with the partnership of Michael Carrick and Patrick McNair at centre back next weekend – it’s now no clean sheets in the last six for United, and a makeshift backline are sure to have their work cut out in turning that defensive form around.

Chadli and Kane Stun Villa

An inspiring comeback in the last ten minutes from Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw them clinch a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, with Nacer Chadli netting his fifth goal of the season and substitute Harry Kane scoring his seventh in his last seven appearances late on. With Erik Lamela sacrificed to the bench as Pochettino opted for a front two of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and Cristian Eriksen hooked off at the break, Chadli looks the one regular Spurs player worth owning right now, as his eight-point haul at Villa Park took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield rankings. Kane, meanwhile, is yet to start a league match, though his manager has hinted post-match that he deserves more minutes. Spurs have decent fixtures ahead (STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL) and the 4.8-priced Kane may well be afforded further opportunities to show his capabilities across that schedule.

Villa Losing Streak Continues

Problems are mounting for Villa right now, who are without a win since Gameweek 4 and will now have to cope with star striker Cristian Benteke, who is suspended for the next three after being dismissed for violent conduct. Andreas Weimann scored his third of the season against Spurs – and his side’s first goal in 547 minutes of football. The schedule ahead is decent enough for the Austrian (whm, SOU, bur, cpl, LEI), but with morale so low amongst the Villa ranks, he is still unlikely to rival Diafra Sakho or Berahino for our affections in the budget forwards bracket.

    Do I need Sanchez? I have 2 FTs, I can definitely squeeze him in. If I ditch Siggy & Sterling, I can get Downing & Sanchez... which sounds pretty good right now. I can ditch Haz for Sanchez or get Wally, but those choices seem riskier...

    How can i fit in Sanchez? I have 2 FT.
    First i thought sterling and moreno -> sanchez and cheapie. But it seems like I only have 3.8 left for a defender. And there is no such thing. Alas!

    Should I transfer
    A) Fab out instead of Sterling?
    B) tadic out instead of Moreno?
    C) Concider taking Pelle or Baines out?
    D) take a 4p hit and get rid of sterling moreno and cheapie to raise the 0.1 needed
    E) Else

    Another blank on the cards for Sterling this week provoked me to take a look and see who could take poor Raheem's place in my team. (At least, it seems, until Sturridge is fit again and in form)

    I have watched each of Arsenal's last 3 games and the other player who stood out for me in their midfield is Cazorla. He has come so close to scoring on so many occasions, he takes corners, is a free-kick specialist and overall he looked quite lively, so I decided to take a look at some of his stats.

    So here we have some key stats, on average, for the last 4 PL games.

    Touches/Passing:
    Mins Per Touch: 1
    Final Third: 47.5
    Mins Per Pass Received: 1.4
    Crosses: 7.5

    Goal/Assist Threat:
    Goal Attempts: 4.5
    Mins Per Attempt: 19.7
    Blocked Shots: 2.0
    Corners Taken: 5.2
    Attempts From Set Plays: 0.8

    Key here I feel is that he is averaging 4.5 shots per game and getting at least 2 of those shots blocked. If those shots found their intended target, who knows how many goals he could have.

    In almost all of these key stats Cazorla leads Hazard, Sterling, Mata, Di María and Eriksen.
    (Di María leads in crossing and corners, Eriksen in blocked shots.)

    One negative to take is that Walcott is on his return from Injury. However I would not be too worried by this as Wenger is slow at reintroducing players when they first come back from serious injuries. I would also see the Ox as the one replaced by him.

    On the other side of Walcott's return, we can look back at Robert Pires as an example. After he did his cruciate in 2002, he made his comeback against Auxerre in the Champions League as a second half substitute. Over the next six weeks his run went: Sub, Sub, Start, Start, Sub, Start, Sub, Sub, Start, Start. And we all know Arsène isn't one for change.

    Although he hasn't scored since the community shield, in his two previous years playing in the PL he has amassed 16 goals and 22 assists.

    Arsenal also have a somewhat kind schedule ahead (swa, MUN, wba, SOT, stk, NEW)

    All this leads me to think an explosion is on the way, so personally I will be placing the crafty little Spaniard in the heart of my team, alongside Alexis, at least for a couple of weeks.
    With a price of 8.2, it could be a bargain.

      But he doesn't actually score that many goals... personally wouldn't double up with Sanchez on Arsenal either, they can blow very hot and cold.

        Correct, but what I'm trying to do here is highlight that there is the potential for an explosion, before it has happened.

          There's a lot of evidence to show that an explosion won't happen though, he's a good player, but he's even more of a David Silva than David Silva in that he'll always assist the assister.

          He has never scored explosively or consistently and he will be rotated on top of that.

            That's an interesting point and it is quite noticeable with Cazorla. I just have a feeling that when he gets one, they will start flying in. Then again, that's just a feeling!

      These stats are quite misleading. I've watched almost every Arsenal game and he's not even in the top 5 best players in the XI. He's simply struggling and can easily be dropped soon. He missed another very easy chance against Burnley in the 1st half. Would not even go near him at 6mn.

    Current team:

    Forster / Heaton
    Bertrand / Kaboul / Chambers / Duff / Moore
    Sanchez / Sterling / Eriksen / Sigurdsson / Boyd
    Aguero / Costa / Pellé

    1 FT, £0.0 ITB

    Should I do:

    A) Sterling + Eriksen --> Fabregas + Chadli
    B) Sterling + Eriksen --> Hazard + Downing
    C) Sterling + Eriksen --> Di Mari + Downing

    Thinking maybe C because I don't have any Man United cover?

        id be reluctant to take out eriksen for a hit , so the sterling to oscar sounds good , however as a fellow eriksen owner , i am worried about him starting next week , given the formational change to two up front and the fact he was hauled off at half time , so maybe eriksen to downing/chadli/tadic next and hold off on sterling for a week...

    Don't know what to do with this lot, i hate my midfield right now:

    Krul

    Baines Bertrand Chambers

    Sterling Fab Siggy Mane

    Pelle Costa Aguero

    Subs: Elliot Chester Marney Duff 0 in the bank

      Your midfield is fine, how about Sterling + Marney -> Chadli + Downing?

      Or even just Sterling out for Eriksen/Oscar..

        Ooohh marney out is intriguing and the guys coming out will outscore the former easily I think, Eriksen not keen on as he's always subbed off, Oscar could be a punt, thanks for advice

    So it looks like people are finally getting rid of Sterling, thank God, it has taken so many an absolute age. Those still doubting, I will post what I've been putting for the last few weeks.
    If Sterling does not score who is he meant to assist? We have absolutely no goal threat and I can't think of where our next goal can come from.
    Balotelli for example has very little drive to get in the box and when he gets the ball just shoots in the general direction of the goal.
    Seriously, who is going to score?

      I sold him this week, but this post could be read as "Sterling is Liverpool's ONLY goal threat at the moment".. 😛

      basically its whether WH can keep a clean sheet. I think they can this week.
      Downing v Tadic should really cancel each other out.
      Can see all the others conceding a goal.

    How do I fit Sanchez in here? I have 2 FT and willing to take a -4 hit. I also want to get rid of Sterling if possible.
    Forster - Myhill
    Jagielka - Dier - Taylor - PVA - Moore
    ADM - Sterling - Siggy - Tadic - Marney
    Aguero - Costa - Pelle

    0.3M in the bank.
    Maybe
    Dier-> Duff
    Siggy -> Moses
    Sterling -> Sanchez

    So I've come to the conclusion that I can't be arsed with FPL. It's boring. It's the same questions over and over during the week. Its just not fun anymore imo. I came on here this morn to look at options and i just cant get myself up for it. Its been happening the last 3 seasons but this is the earliest ever.
    Gonna WC my team this week and then once FFF have their 'manage my team' thing up and running I'm gonna see how good it is. Just gonna piss about with UFPL.

      This has been the most interesting season I've ever taken part in, there are so many different ways to build a team, I'm going quite against the grain and I'm still in the top 10k at the moment without Sanchez, Di Maria, Pelle, Lloris, Dier, Sakho, Hazard...

      If you're bored then that doesn't mean the game isn't fun, it just means you're bored.

      Transfer in Kolarov and Coleman and you'll be grand 😉

      I was getting bored and decided to give it a lot less time this season, but then I ended up doing really well. This might be my third week in a row being in the top 500 so I have something to play for.

      Maybe stop dedicating so much time? Take a step back and just make the obvious changes to your team without worrying too much. Maybe in a few weeks you'll feel differently

        Well yeah 🙂 but that's not the reason. Last yr I was 1.5k at Christmas, got bored, played my WC and left it for a bit. I just don't see me coming back to it again this time.

        Don't get me wrong now. I run my aul dolls father's team for him in his work league and there's a fair bit of money on it. I'll still focus on that (3 MoMs in a row) but my own team, and OR. I can't be arsed with. It's really really not that important.
