The Big Numbers – Gameweek 12

We turn our attentions to the weekend’s nine matches now and delve into the data in our first member’s article of the week. Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham’s goalscoring midfielders arrive on our radar, whilst Swansea’s in-form frontman and Andy Carroll’s impact on West Ham’s style of play are also amongst this evening’s topics.

    Brutal week, shedding my dead weight in Abrighton for a yellowed flagged Moses isn't my worst transfer by a long shot (Costa to Adebayor 🙁 ), but gosh is it annoying. He couldn't even make it to the 60 minute mark!

    Really pleased United changed their formation at the weekend. I think its the way forward for them really. ADM in behind Rooney and RVP/Falcao is perfect imo.

      I was only able to watch the first 10 minutes but I thought it was Rooney playing behind Di Maria and Van Persie? Did I hallucinate that or did the formation shift at all?

        Yeah looked to be like ADM was effectively playing striker.

        I think you'll find ADM and Rooney will switch around a lot. Basically it was all 3 up front and relatively central. 3CB's and wing backs is good for United too

          No. Rooney was playing well behind. It was infuriating. I have no ide what LvG was thinking. Effectively nullified AdM's creativity and work rate and neutered any chance we had of keeping hold of the ball. He's not Ronaldo, FFS.

            According to the average position map, they were basically the same as each other. I think ADM just likes to get forward regularly and Rooney likes to drop in regularly.

              Map would've looked very different had they lined up in their proper positions. And we would've looked much better in the first half and overall.

                The point is. ADM and Rooney are getting in much better positions now with this change in formation. That will be a good thing for their FPL prospects.

                  Short of an injury crisis I doubt AdM plays there again this season. I doubt we play three at the back next week and reckon we will use it very seldom this season.

                This. I said it here before the match. Arsenal are notorious for playing narrow. Three at the back was used to take advantage of that and hit them on the counter.

                I don't think that formation is just a counter attacking formation. They used it to good effect in pre-season. LVG also said he was perhaps guilty of changing the formation too much after the last GW.

                        Our current crop of CB's are ordinary at best which is why they need all the help they can get 🙂 with 3 of them they might have a better chance keeping the opposition out of the box.

                    This.

                    The success preseason is irrelevant when the league started and 3-5-2 was a disaster which everyone was calling to be abandoned.

                    It worked on Sat fine but I think 3 at the back formations are a disaster.

                      It only worked because Arsenal (a) Don't have a quality striker and (b) Arsenal decided that leaving 2 at the back was the way to go.

                        By it worked I mean it got the result is all.

                        Arsenal should've started with Giroud.

                        And going 2 v 2 with ADMs pace is madness alright.

    Hey guys I've had a pretty miserable GW and got just less than the average so far...I've got a few transfer combos lined up for next GW and if you could choose one of the following that would be much appreciated.

    Out: Welbeck & Clyne

    In: Austin & Naylor or Austin & Cresswell or Ings & Naylor or Ings & Cresswell or Bony & Yun.

    Thanks in advance.

    Current squad:_

    Forster (McCarthy)
    Baines Chambers Bertrand Wisdom Hutton
    Sterling Sanchez Chadli Siggy Boyd
    Aguero Costa Pelle

    Thinking of taking an 8 pointer

    Forster -> Guzan
    Bertrand -> Dummett
    Sterling-> Hazard
    Pelle -> Bony

    or

    Forster -> Fabianski
    Bertrand -> Azpil
    Sterling -> Hazard
    Pelle -> Austin

    Any thoughts really appreciated.

      If the money isn't crucial I'd rather just ride and die with Forster over the tough fixtures. I don't see Guzan or Fabianski as a certain upgrade. I prefer Bony and Dummett to Austin and Azpil, although it's fairly close.

    So many options for me with 2 FTs this week. Probably won't it until midweek games, but which one do you reckon is the best? Chester must go imo.

    A. Chester & Clyne -> Yun & Azpi
    B. Chester & Fab -> Yun & ADM/Haz
    C. Chester & Pelle -> Ivan & Kane + 0.6 (exit strategy?)
    D. Chester & Pelle -> Azpi/Naylor & Austin
    E. Chester & Pelle -> Bony & 4.4 (Duff/Dummet? - already got Hutton and Wisdom)

      Who's your other defense?

      A) if you can't get a decent back 3 next week.
      B) is not urgent.
      C) Ivan overkill
      D) Seems balanced with Azpi
      E) Again depend on other. If you can field a decent rotation back 3 every week it's good.

      I'd choose E. Because Bony

      1. NABIL - FPL otai

        Here's the team

        Krulliot
        Baines Clyne Chester Hutton Wisdom
        Sanchez Fab Siggy Downing Marney
        Kun Costa Pelle

        Still E? Bony is arguably proven in FPL but Kane is tempting me, and a CHE defender too.

        1. Koflok
          • 11 Years

          Tbh playing Clyne wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I'm considering not getting a CHE def.
          You can switch to Naylor later on too. Esp you have Hutton who got decent fixtures so is playable almost every week.

          Still E for me.

          Best to think it over the week because right now I'm feeling the Bony love right now.
          Similar with you and Kane.

            Very decent plan for you.

            In my situation, if I do Pelle to Bony tomorrow with my 0.1 itb, it means I can only get ADM for Fab for a hit (by downgrading Chester). you think it's still going to be worth it?

              I think so but wouldn't you be able to wait a week to get ADM (I probably didn't explain very well). That's what I'll do if Pelle gets the yellow (don't think ADM's set to rise soon).

                  No probs, good luck! I don't want to see that card either ha. Yes sooner would be better for ADM, but it's sometimes it's just comforting to know you've found room in your team, even if you do have to wait to pull the trigger.

      I'd go D with Azpil. Really, really hard call. Without doing much looking into past your team page as to how your defense may rotate I could see A being good possibility. I'm not too big of a Bony fan..but if you fancy him I like E also. I mean honestly other than B and C which I think are both rubbish options I could see a solid argument for any of A, D, and E. D or E probably would be my faves.

      E) Austin looks an good prospect, as does Bony but then you can get a Chelsea defender with Austin
      C) Ivanovic isn't worth it over Azpi imo
      B) Fabregas is so consistent...no need to get rid off him
      A) Give Clyne a go v the big teams

        You and Walsh came in and suddenly D looks very viable! 😀 Yep Fab is super consistent but ADM and Haz look like scoring big really, really soon.

        Thanks both of you.

    Forster/Jaku
    Duff/Baines/Bertrand/Kaboul/Moore
    Chadli/Cesc/Downing/Siggy/Boyd
    Pelle/osta/Augero

    3.0 itb and 2 ft.

    Duff/Baines/Kaboul/Chadli/Downing are all injured....What some options to set me up?
    Dummet/Naylor/Yun? Alexis/ADM? So many options!!

      Bartley. By a whisker. I'd always favour the home player, plus Ings is suddenly scoring.

    I really want to do Welb + Tadic out for Austin + Fab but Austin causes a problem for me. In the next 7 games he has 4 great home ties but the other 3 are away to Swa, Eve & Ars. I have Naylor, Baines & Chambers so a home game to QPR makes them starters and Austin out. Tough call to only play 2 upfront if you don't have the squad to cover.

    Krul
    Cahill Baines Bertrand
    ADM Hazard Siggy Downing
    Costa Welbeck Austin

    Foster Boyd Chambers Wisdom

    1FT and 3.4 ITB

    Welbeck to Rooney and figure the rest out later if I have to?

      I think I'm out of last man standing this week , I'm on 25 including autosubs and after hits with just Bertrand and Hutton to go , is TM around ? Any rough idea what the cut off point is so far ?

          he started on the left and cut in...4-1-4-1

          no...wenger unlikely to play 2 up front...when giroud came on welbeck went to the wing

                  Clyne to Hutton. Would give me...

                  Baines Berty Naylor Hutton Moore

                  If I went with Kane I'm .1m short of...

                  Baines Azpi Coleman Naylor Moore

                  Or I could go 352 but I haven't done much investigating on that yet.

                I see. Not a bad idea, I just think Spurs are so night and day you never really know when they will show up. I mean they barely won today and they were playing vs 'inferior' opp that was down to 10 men. At least Swansea is a bit more consistent. Just a thought.
