Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

In a Gameweek blighted by numerous injuries, Fantasy managers will be looking for Southampton to come to the rescue at Villa Park this evening. Ronald Koeman’s side roll up to the midlands on the back of four straight clean sheets and with the hosts having scored just one goal in seven Gameweeks, another shut-out for the Saints could well be on the cards.

Nathaniel Clyne (22.4%) and Ryan Bertrand (32.5%) are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game right now but with the fixtures turning against Koeman’s outfit, many have a dilemma on their hands ahead of a run of matches against City, Arsenal and United.

Further up the field, Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle could also be on their last outing for many. The Serbian’s underlying stats continue to impress but, aside from his incredible 23-point haul at home to Sunderland in Gameweek 8, he’s struggled for any semblance of consistency and has blanked in seven of the first 11 rounds of fixtures.

Pelle’s drop in shooting accuracy has been a real concern to his owners. The Italian has failed to register a single attempt on target over his previous three appearances and has now netted in only one of his last five league outings. Another blank this evening may well be the final straw, though with Villa beset by backline injuries (Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker are all out), Pelle will be confident of grabbing the goals before the fixtures take a turn for the worse.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What is your front 3 this week ???

Unbelievably I am 125 globally with Pelle , Welbs and Costa ( have had Pelel and Costa since wk1 and Welbs since he signed for Arsenal )

envisage getting rid of both with Aguero , Rooney , Bony , Austin and Kane on my radar..........

Totally bossed that half, would be so gutted if I was a Saints' fan (which I guess I am due to FPL :P)

I see this finishing 1-1, with an OG from Cissokho settling it.

Sterling doesn't look involved enough and isn't on any set pieces and is a poor finisher

Imo his game transforms when playing behind quality forwards like SAS or Rooney

Southampton are second by virtue of having the best opening fixtures ever seen. Top 4 calls are laughable, and fully expecting them to fall away now. Not saying they haven't been good, because they have, and you can only beat what's infront of you but this obsession with wanting to keep their players through these tough fixtures is most strange. Is it just because your attached to them after how well they've done so far? Price factor?

I really dont get why the majority aren't actively looking to sell and get players with much better fixtures and chances of returns.

    Am i wrong?

      I don't think so

I'm keeping Clyne this week, but only as i want to avoid a hit. I will shift Cameron first, then move Clyne out for Baines

I think you have a point Demi.

Though that would be fixtures over form, which we get castigated for even suggesting is a viable way to play.

They beat the easy teams and lost to the difficult teams. That is still better than the other 'non-laughable' top 4 options.

      • 10 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

      For the record..
      liv/WBA/whm/NEW/swa/QPR/tot/SUN/STO/hul/LEI/avl

and WHM and NEW were very, very different teams back then.

Totally agree - beaten what's in front of them. And credit to them for that... Chelsea are the only other team to do that so far.

Unfortunately, those fixtures are naturally followed by the worst you'll see this season.

      Form beats fixtures any day.
