Scout Notes – Gameweek 12 – Monday

Villa and Southampton share the Monday night spoils in a 1-1 draw at the midlands. Gabby Agbonlahor grabs his third of the season before a late Nathaniel Clyne strike denies the hosts all three points.

Agbonlahor the Villains’ Hero
The frontman capitalised on an error from Fraser Forster to notch his first goal since Gameweek 4 last night. Agbonlahor’s pace posed the Saints backline problems aplenty during the first period in particular and his strike means he’s now scored 50% (three of six) of his side’s goals this season. Given that Villa have netted just twice in the last eight matches, they’ll need to do far more to persuade us of investing – with Burnley, Palace, Leicester and West Brom in the next four, though, the fixtures are on their side, whilst Christian Benteke’s return from suspension in Gameweek 14 against the Eagles should help Paul Lambert’s cause.

Saints Full-Backs in the Points
Despite conceding for the first time in five league matches, Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand still delivered for their Fantasy owners in the Villa Park encounter. The duo’s attacking forays proved vital for the Saints’ equaliser as Clyne lashed home his second goal of the season thanks to Bertrand’s cutback from the left – the duo now sit second and third for defenders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

With 32% and 22% ownership respectively, Clyne and Bertrand are amongst the four most popular defenders in the FPL game but as the fixtures now take a turn for the worse, many are weighing up their options. Given that Ronald Koeman’s side face City, Arsenal, United and Everton in the next five Gameweeks now, the full-backs will need to continue their attacking raids, with defensive returns looking far less certain.

Tadic and Pelle Stumble Again
Hopes were high for the popular Southampton pair after the likes of Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker were ruled out through injury in the heart of the Villa defence. Pelle had one of his poorest matches of the season, however, and fired just a single attempt on goal – he has now failed to register one shot on target in the last four Gameweeks and with the likes of Charlie Austin, Danny Inga and Wilfried Bony appearing on our radars, last night could prove his farewell bow in many Fantasy teams. The second most popular forward in the FPL game with 31% ownership, Pelle’s appeal is also dampened by the fact he remains on four yellow cards – just one caution shy of a single-match ban.

Tadic’s place in our squads is also uncertain. After blanking in seven of the first 11 Gameweeks, he needed a big performance last night to stay in our Fantasy plans – another lacklustre blank suggests there’d be no surprise to see him appear amongst the most transferred out before the next deadline is upon us.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What do you think about taking hits over this period. Should hits be kept to a minimum or we should take as many hits as needed to get a real strong team

Yeah each case on its own merits. I'm going to try and keep two FTs for as long as possible, for emergency, but if I see an opportunity, I'll take a hit.

The next six-seven GWs are huge. So many players don't keep on top of it and fall by the side.

I want to be top 5-10K by Jan.

I am thinking about taking a 8 point hit next week to set my team up for the festive period. Maybe I should avoid doing that and keep my FTs for the injuries that are bound to happen

Some mixed signals here: "However, the good news is that nether James Collins or Morgan Amalfitano who limped off at the end of Saturday’s bruising clash at Goodison are unlikely to miss the weekend."

It is a gamble, but I have also been thinking about it. Their fixtures are absolutely wonderful the next 8 or something games, and Bony is finding form. Depends how much you trust Swansea.

(Part of my reasoning for doing it would be a differential in minileagues though, with only 1 Siggy and 1 Bony owner out of 9.)

I haven't really considered Austin tbh ash he falls into the Ulloa category for me and as soon as I brought the latter in he blanked every single week but maybe that's me being blinded by my recent experience with a budget striker?

I've also considered bringing in Giroud and shipping out Sanchez for ADM or Hazard? How does that sound or is it too early to bring Giroud in?

UCL. Stick with Lucas Moura or a take the points hit to upgrade to a 7m player? Not seeing any value at that price so figuring that I will take my chances of him not starting unless any better ideas out there?

Had him for most of the season, so frustrating. Half time subs a couple of times too. Hes got the quality no doubt but i don't think Poch fancies him.

A couple of key criteria for transfers for the next few weeks - firstly, that they are not likely to be rotated over the Christmas period; secondly, that you will not lose them at the start of January for a month with the African Nations' Cup.

    Bony or Austin then?

    Both have good fixtures.

Ignoring the fact you may have Siggy, which one is the better pick?

Obviously Austin allows for spare cash and an upgrade elsewhere!

Bony if you don't have Siggy. Austin better value.

I am sure many of us are in this situation. You have players that you want to keep for the long term but they missed last GW through injury. You thought its a minor thing so you benched him/them and now, you are told it could be worse than you thought. If he/they will miss another GW, will you still keep or sell? I am talking about Chadli,Sakho and Downing. There aren't good enough options in the same price range. Would you rather sell for 1 week and buy them back or bench again (assuming it is just another GW they miss)? I assume most will say sell but keep in mind that most have 2 or more of Soton players and want to get rid. There could be many -8 hits this week.

if you want to replace injury doubts then go for it, keep the saints players, who says City wont beat Saints 3-2 (pelle brace)

Pelle's form has been poor over the last month. I already lost Pelle last week for Kun and I believe its the right move. Still have Forster and Alderweireld. Forster goes for Fabianski this week.

    @captain expert D1sable 😛

Costa, Aguero, Austin, ADM, Sanchez, Siggy

which one would you go for?

    1. d1sable
      • Has Moderation Rights
      9 years, 6 months ago

I only seem to be an expert and picking MY best captain from my players but i would say from that lot at the moment i would rank them:

      Costa
      Aguero
      Sanchez
      ADM
      Austin
      Siggy

Aguero would be top in just about any other fixture but SOT are just too tight at the back to back him at the mo. The rest are virtually a lottery, all good options.
