Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Newcastle vs Chelsea

The Gameweek attempts to start its engines with a frosty encounter, as Chelsea’s convincing title charge draws up to St James Park to tackle another potential north east banana skin.

Having faltered at Sunderland, Jose Mourinho’s men will be keen to dispatch Newcastle in their own backyard but will find a team recently revived under Alan Pardew. The Magpies have lost just one of their last eight and, like their Black Cats rivals, will be in no mood to roll over.

Fantasy managers will doubtless be looking to the returning Diego Costa for points, whilst hoping that Eden Hazard can break a barren run of away trips that have seen him gather just two assists on the road all season. At the back, Mourinho’s men have kept three consecutive shut-outs but, with Nemanja Matic suspended, the defensive shields are down.

The early kick-off will be followed by a batch of five afternoon encounters before it’s over to Man City to attempt to keep pace, as they take on Everton at the Etihad.

We will be right here soaking up the action and bringing you the teamsheet tittle-tattle via our Twitter feed.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Whats the deal with Chadli? How come the top scorer of the team is not playing all of a sudden?

    3. Guidinho

Because they have played much better without him. He is looking to play 4-4-2 at home which makes Chadli far less useful

Did they really play much better? 2-1 vs Hull and 2-1 vs Everton, Everton was HORRIBLE in that game.. can't imagine tottenham was much worse before those games

people on here really are clueless. spurs always rotate. no definite starters apart from the keeper obviously.

They started well against Chelsea then got rolled. Even the games they won, I think Stoke and Villa spring to mind and they were awful. Granted Everton were not their best but the passing and movement was a drastic improvement

But Lamela played alot and was certainly worse than Chadli

              • 13 Years
              9 years, 6 months ago

As pony as Lamela is he is a lot more mobile and much quicker than Chadli. If you are going to be short in midfield you need more energetic players

You can't really say he was the problem. His injury just coincided with them gaining form. I'd say Kane playing as a starter is more of the reason for their turn of form.

        1. Guidinho
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 6 months ago

I agree with this too, but that goes back to what I was saying that Poch wants to continue with the new formation to accomodate Kane which has been at Chadli's expense.

Chelsea looked better when he went off, I know they had an extra striker (and it was tactical) but I deffo think it could cause the odd surprise through crimbo - seriously thinking Azpi to Baines

Pardew deserves enormous credit, but so do the players.

We weren't at our best on the ball, but the commitment and back-to-the-wall defending in the last 20 was amazing. We wouldn't have won that game in the past.

Given Cesc's ownership, how much would you say he will drop over the week? He will drop tonight since he is almost on -80% on FFF. I expect another drop but is there a chance of a total 0.3 drop? ADM dropped almost everyday when people were selling.

But you'd expect Hazard to rise by 0.2 as well. If you have a FT to spare. Cesc -> Hazard for a few weeks isn't bad. Even if you got him cheap.
