Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 17 – Monday

Cesc Fabregas grabs a goal and assist as Chelsea ease past Stoke 2-0. John Terry also finds the net as the Blues earn a fifth clean sheet in six, though Eden Hazard gives Fantasy managers cause for concern after limping off in the dying minutes at the Britannia.

Consistent Cesc Delivers Again

Sold by over 356,000 FPL managers due to his one-match suspension against Hull the previous weekend, the Blues playmaker returned to form with a vengeance last night. Handed the role in “the hole” as Oscar dropped to the Blues’ bench, Fabregas bagged a goal and assist to steer Chelsea three points clear of City at the summit and take his personal tally to two goals and 12 assists in the first 17 Gameweeks. Now up to third in the FPL midfield standings, the Spaniard has earned his owners points in 11 of his 16 appearances for the Blues – Eden Hazard has managed a goal or assist in nine of his 17 league outings by comparison.

Hazard Concern for Blues

Forced off with an ankle problem towards the end of last night’s encounter, the Belgian had been the victim of numerous clumsy challenges by the home side throughout. Hazard’s assist in last night’s win – just his third away from home all season – ensured he remains ahead of Fabregas in the FPL standings and kept his form ticking over ahead of Friday’s home clash with West Ham. Bearing in mind he has scored in each of his last five at the Bridge, any update on the Belgian’s fitness will be eagerly awaited by Fantasy managers. Encouragingly, Mourinho failed to mention any problem during his post-match briefing, whilst Hazard is reported to have replied “don’t worry” when quizzed by reporters on his weekend availability.

Blues Backline in the Points

Last night’s victory means Mourinho’s side have now served up five clean sheets in the last six Gameweeks. The Blues boss reverted to his first-choice back-four as Filipe Luis dropped to the bench but despite his tinkering, Chelsea head into the upcoming trio of quick-fire Gameweeks in their most resilient form of the season – they’re up to eight shut-outs for the campaign now, joint-top with Southampton.

John Terry grabbed his first goal of the season to send his side three points clear of City. The Chelsea skipper headed into last night’s match as the only member of Jose Mourinho’s regular back-four without a goal or assist to his name but needed just two minutes to rectify that record after nodding home the winner. Priced at just 6.3 to Branislav Ivanovic’s 7.2, Terry now sits just five points behind the Serbian – an ownership of just 7% in the FPL game highlights his differential potential.

Costa’s Toils Continue

It’s a single goal in four appearances for the Blues popular striker, whose two-point return proved a bitter disappointment for his 59% of FPL owners. From Gameweek 8 onwards, Costa has managed just 24 points – granted, he missed three of those matches through injury and suspension but his inability to produce the goods is having a significant effect across the Fantasy games, with many managers captaining him on a regular basis. Costa was drafted in by over 360,000 in the previous three Gameweeks as a result of Sergio Aguero’s injury but many may be thinking twice after a weekend that saw a number of budget and mid-price forwards continue their fine form.

Who to bench? Downing (che) or Austin (ars)?

Downing - set piece taker, got a feeling he'll assist Carroll, great form, dangerous on the break in away games such as Stoke and Sunderland. But it is Chelsea and he could easily score 1 or 2pts.

Austin - awful away record for QPR and can see Arsenal winning this by 3 or 4, but it's likely he'll get at least a half-chance and is, of course, on pens.

    Torn.

Has to be Austin. Likely to miss an assist at most for Downing; the ceiling is higher for Austin as Arsenal are much worse than Chelsea.

      Save.

Monk think Siggy will be fine to play. Sterling has proven to be incosistent and not really a heavy hitter through the season.

Benteke slightly ahead of Sakho, but would still save and monitor for one more week.

    Eden Hazard tells Belgian press

"I am ok, I will be able to play on Boxing Day" after being substituted in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Stoke

    http://www.nieuwsblad.be/sportwereld/cnt/dmf20141223_01443674

More info (not perfect as translated):

After the injury of Hazard and subsequent forced to replace the big fear was that the Belgians would miss the busy Christmas period at Chelsea on Boxing Day (Boxing Day, ed) must again take office. But Hazard himself introduced us after the game safely. "That'll be all right," he said with a wink.

    What are Costa owners doing?

Been tempted to ship him out for a few weeks now but thinking maybe its best to hold for one more game.

Giroud and Benteke are on my watch list at the moment. Thinking of shipping Costa out for one of those and then Bony for the other.

too late for bony time now really

Costa --> Giroud on my radar but not yet . would give some funds for midfield with austin kane !!
at the same time giroud could come in for one of those 2 in near future
lastly giroud could be good arsenal cover if sanchez ( who i own ) starts scoring less points because of the giroud factor

    Defence in hand

Green (ars) + McCarthy back up
    Baines (STO)
    Chambers (QPR)
Dummett (mun) or Saylor (mun) Yun (ars)

    1.6ITB, 2FT

Would Green + Saylor > Hamer + Demichelis be a good move?
I know im stuck with Hamer in goal for up to 5 GW, but thanks to the Jan WC it can't be more than that (or could be only 3x GW) and I get my city coverage

    Is this a good move?

I'm weighing up Di Maria vs Silva.

But I have a feeling Man U will struggle against Newcastle - athletic and organised, happy to counter fast. Cisse seems like the perfect weapon.

Either that or Man Utd will destroy them 7-0.

I wanna know whether Falcao will start.

Downing is the must have for value, Sanchez is the must have for threat
Siggy could be dangerous as Bony goes off for Africa in 3GW cutting Swansea's threat
Silva + Yaya are stop gaps until Sergio return
Eriksen is on a good run, but it is continuable?
Di Maria can be placed very deep, but are there too many cooks at OT?

      For me:

      Sanchez
      Downing
      Hazard
      +
Fab or Di Maria (depending on the rest of your team)

        great response!!

don't forget the Jan wildcard though huh. When is Aguero expected back .. ? Given Man City's fixtures I think a short term punt on Silva/ Yaya might be a lucrative gamble.

yes, i do feel that players doing Silva (c) were quite lucky last week - he rarely scores 2+ in a match and rarely scores in consecutive matches
For me, I think Demichelis or Nasri offer good value, but if you dont mind about cost its gotta be Yaya

Nice. Sanchez looks a good option on paper, but looked extremely fatigued against Liverpool - I'd avoid if I were you. Moving to the left flank and Giroud haven't helped his cause either.

Yeah saw the pool game and he did look like he was out of the goals. QPR home was driving me to make that move but will avoid it now. With Santi and Giroud I think they take most of the points. Cheers for the advice.

My captaincy is the only think that hasn't worked this season.. very poor thus far so will go for safer bets moving forward and stop punting 😉

Happy with my team, Baines seems the only issue as he isn't scoring
Only regret is not having Fabregas, I suppose I could downgrade Baines and upgrade Siggy, but I would lose 0.4 value, and I can see myself getting him back in the future

Yun to Hutton/Wisdom? QPR are awful defensively.

no worries. In a very similar situation with 2FT and no pressing issues. Would be a transfer for the sake of not losing one! Sticking with Baines this GW also.

Should I replace Azpilicueta with Terry?

Is he likely to get more game time through the festive period?

Azpil has been rested recently so probably won't be again soon. I also think that Terry will play every game too but seems a bit of a sideways transfer...

Too knee jerky after Terry's goal. Save.

2 weeks ago it would have been ideal. Not sure I'd waste a transfer now though

I've got the money to upgrade Siggy (who I've had from GW1) to a premium mid. Should I go for it and put in, say, Silva for this week?

Already made that move. Go for it.

I'm reluctant to lose Siggy personally.

I've not got (and can't afford Yaya) so feel that I need some City attacking cover. But then again Siggy for 6m is still very good value...

Plus you can see yourself buying him back (for lots of £££) later in the season, I'm in the same boat

How does this look for this week? Saving my FT I think..

    Pantilimon

Zabaleta Terry Baines ( Yun Hutton )

Yaya Sanchez Hazard Siggy ( Boyd )

    Bony (c) Sakho Austin

I have a very similar team (Downing in place of Boyd and the same front 8). I'm looking at Sakho > Kane (C) this week if that's any use for you.

All set? Any transfers needed? (1FT and 0.4).

    Guzan
    Clyne - Azpilicueta - Jagielka
    Hazard - Sanchez - Downing - Siggy
    Costa(vc) - RvP(c) - Austin

    Gilks -- Marney - Dummett - Kelly

Will be doing Welbeck > Austin for my FT this week. Don't mind taking a hit - any preferences?

    A) Adrian > Hart
    B) Eriksen > Fab
    C) Eriksen > ADM

    (Adrian) - McCarthy
    Azpili - Baines - Clichy - Chambers - Yun
    Hazard - (Eriksen) - Sanchez - Silva - Boyd
    Sakho - (Welbeck) - Rooney

I wouldn't take Erikson out, he is one of the few great players who prob won't be rested

    2. Hasselbaink Forever - Defoe…

Does my team need to take a 4 point hit anywhere or is it ok?

    Lloris
    --Azpi--Clichy--Clyne--
    --Barkley--Fab--Siggy--Nasri--
    ---Lukaku--Kane (c) --Costa---

Thinking about doing Oscar > adm... Although hazard might get rested and Oscar just did.

    Guzan (Elliot)
    Zab, Taylor, wisdom (yun, wasil)
    Yaya, haz, Oscar, Sanchez, siggy
    Costa, Austin, Kane

Or should I use my transfer more wisely
