Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 19

Just a few hours after the final whistle went at St James’ Park, we bring you an update on those players who have picked up injury concerns on the back of today’s nine matches. A certain City midfielder is our headline act ahead of the champions’ home match against Sunderland on Thursday.

Aston Villa
Ciaran Clark was forced off with a back problem in today’s goalless draw with Sunderland. Paul Lambert also confirmed that Jores Okore, who replaced his fellow defender, was on the bench as he wanted to protect him after a lengthy injury lay-off.

Chelsea
Oscar missed the Blues’ draw at Southampton due to illness, as Cesc Fabregas was handed the role in “the hole” for the second time in three Gameweeks.

Everton
James McCarthy was withdrawn at the break in the Toffees’ defeat at Newcastle after suffering a slight recurrence of his hamstring injury. After the match, Roberto Martinez confirmed:

“It was more precaution. James came back from injury on Friday and was able to play 60 minutes and today, at half-time, he was at a very high risk of injury so had to come off. It was feeling a little bit tight and because we know his history of previous injuries, we had to protect that.”

Hull City
Gaston Ramirez was forced off at half-time against Leicester with Steve Bruce confirming a groin injury post-match. The Uruguayan has been suffering from groin problems since his arrival at the KC Stadium on loan from Southampton.

Leicester
Leonardo Ulloa was withdrawn early in the second-half of this afternoon’s win at Hull after picking up a knock.

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Yaya Toure missed today’s 2-2 draw with Burnley due to a groin problem and will be assessed ahead of Thursday’s home encounter with Sunderland:

“We hope that he will be because it was a lesser problem but after 48 hours maybe it is too high a risk to repeat – [it is] a muscle injury in his groin. Yaya was not able to play today, 90 minutes. It was a risk for him. The players that played today were the players who were able to. Yaya felt a problem at the beginning of the last game against West Bromwich. He was not 100% so I think it was not good for him to play today.”

Pellegrini is also uncertain over Vincent Kompany’s availability for the Black Cats’ clash:

“We will see tomorrow if he is fit for the next game. It is very difficult now to know. He has some problems still in his calf.”

Manchester United
Antonio Valencia was replaced at the break with a groin problem, Louis van Gaal has revealed.

Southampton
Nathaniel Clyne missed this afternoon’s draw against Chelsea due to an ankle injury. After the match, Ronald Koeman confirmed:

“He got a kick on his ankle. He’s out for around 10 days. I don’t think he’ll be available for Arsenal game”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Bojan was withdrawn late in against West Brom due to a potential hamstring injury but is optimistic the Spaniard will be fit in time to face United on Thursday.

Sunderland
Liam Bridcutt was forced off early off during Sunderland’s match at Villa after failing to recover from a head knock sustained in a clash with Christian Benteke. See Larsson was also withdrawn on 57 minutes with Gus Poyet confirming post-match that the Swede had twisted his ankle and sustained some ligament damage. The Black Cats boss did, however, play down the injury ahead of their New Year’s day trip to the Etihad…

“Seb has twisted his ankle. It is ligament damage, but nothing serious – a few days.”

Tottenham
Nabil Bentaleb missed today’s lunchtime encounter with United due to illness.

West Brom
Left-back Sebastien Pocognoli missed the derby loss at Stoke due to injury, according to reports in the local press. After the match, Baggies boss Alan Irvine explained his reasons for subbing off Stephane Sessegnon and James Morrison:

“Sessegnon has a bit of a calf problem that is on-going and has done extremely well to play through games.. James Morrison has been nursing a knee injury…Sessegnon and Morrison are going through a bit of discomfort. It wasn’t because they had played poorly. I was trying to look after them.”

Let's talk about Skrtel....how does everybody rate him as an option?

I'm looking to bring him in for Baines this week, assuming he doesn't pick up a YC tomorrow. I just think he has goal threat (scored 7 last season), great fixtures until the Jan WC when I can reassess and is a BP magnet - has picked up at least 1 every time Pool keep a CS and even picked up 2 in GW1 when Pool conceded.

He's on top of my Baines replacement list.

Liverpool def isn't as bad as people say, 3 CS in 6

True. But let's look at the recent ones. Skrtel is a gol threat too so its a bonus

Yeah I guess so. They should get CS in 2/3 games. But Skrtel is a card magnet though

He only has 4, I wouldn't call that a card magnet. Besides, if he doesn't pick one up in tomorrow's game it won't matter as he'll then need 10 for suspension after the new year

How am I looking, gents? Save FT?

    Hart
    Baines, Terry, Hutton
Sanchez, Yaya, Hazard (c), Siggy, Downing
    Benteke, Austin (vc),

    Bench: Gilks, Kane, Naylor, Wisdom
    2.3 ITB
    1FT

    Thanks in advance.

So a one week punt on Kolarov ended in tears.

    Team is:
    Hart
    Azpil Kolarov Hutton Wisom Wilson
    Haz Siggy Sanchez Downing Yaya
    Costa Austin Sakho

Have 2 FTs, Kolarov probably will not play next game? Should I prioritise Kolarov out or Sakho out first?

      Both if Yaya is okay?

Yeah I meant a 4m+ playing defender. I think you should be able to get 4.4m defender?

    Which 3 to bench??

    Azpi - Hutton - Skrtel - Naylor - Caulker

    Downing - Silva - Hazard - Sanchez - Boyd

Thinking in this order: Naylor - Caulker - Boyd but I'm still unsure.

All things considered, who is the best SOT defender to get in with a GW23 WC?

    A) Clyne - 5.9m
    B) Berty - 5.7m
    C) Alder - 5.0m
    D) Fonte - 5.6m
    E) Forster - 5.4m

I think the top 2 are the best, but with factoring in price is Alder the best option? 0.7-0.9m is quite a saving.

      C

Berty looks good with the attacking threat. But if you are thinking of saving money Alder is the way to go. Though he gets less BAPS and attraction from others

    3. Koflok

Good question there. I have been thinking about it.

Bertrand is definitely better than Clyne in terms of $ and even attacking threat.

Alder if money is tight, he's the cheapest route into the defence but less likely to have attacking returns.

You will be better off with another keeper as Saints are solid defensively and he does not get many shots.

Most likely I will go Bertrand, otherwise Alder.

So Zabs should start before Sagna in GW20?

Who do City have in the cup game and does Sagna usually start them?

because of cup game? i;m pretty happy with 50pts this week but sterling differential would be icing on the cake

          Yeah

He has Sterling (c) and Taylor, I have 8pts. Think he'll win anyhow, unless 1-1, with goals from Gerrard (no Sterling assist) & Bony, something like that......

The way I see it with Zaba vs Sagna

    01/01 PRL SUN(H) - Zaba
    04/01 FAC SHF(H) - Sagna
    10/01 PRL eve(A) - Zaba

5 days between last night and next game so Zaba should be okay for SUN
Sagna to play in cup. Zaba against vs tough (lel) Everton match.

Should be similar case with Clichy me reckon.

He was rested last match so nailed on for SUN. Rest is similar.

Kolarov vs weaker Sheffield team is even more ideal.

Double up on City def - Zabs & Clichy? Just for one GW mainly - GW20?

    1. Koflok

I'd be tempted. Skrtel vs Clichy for me for Baines replacement.

But I think I'll stick in my case.

I did Baines > Zab 😮 that worked out well 😛

        Also sold Boyd 😎

Now need replacement for Clyne - either Cresswell (5.5m) or Clichy (5.7). Skrtel is 5.8m 🙁

On of those weeks Jaf. My transfers turn out okay with Eriksen -> Silva instead of getting Benteke.

My def was such a let down though. That SUN AVL match a was big swing.

Saving my freebie this week, so looking ahead to the GW23 WC - thoughts on this lot to make a differential charge for 1st place?

(numbers in brackets are my purchase price of players I already have)

    Forster, Alnwick
    Debuchy, Alderwield, O'Shea, Wisdom (4.0), Hutton (4.0)
Hazard (10.0), Sanchez (10.4), Fabregas, Silva, Albrighton
    Rooney, Giroud, Pelle

[Rooney -> Aguero once back fit]

    What to do with foster.

Only playing keeper west brom doing nothing.

    No transfer needed this week.

    A) swap krul out some1 round same value

    B) just stick with foster till wildcard

At what point does A Young become an option? Started the last 8 games, only 4.9m and has been a little unlucky to not score better. Decent option for the 8th attacker?
